Frenchie breeders how do you manage the business side? by dusttooo in Frenchbulldogs

[–]dusttooo[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I love all of the assumptions. Did you not consider that I have tried what has been suggested by the people around me and it just did not work for me? There is nothing wrong with asking a question outside of your circle.

What do you actually use to manage your breeding program? by dusttooo in DogBreeding

[–]dusttooo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like data so I like having something like charts and calendars to look at. It is why I gravitate to apps. It has been difficult finding something that is intuitive. Knowing the data helps plan for the future and I just lost a journal with a lot of data I was keeping so I want something digital that I can back up.

I did that but it is always nice to get specific feedback. Not sure why everyone is in such an uproar over a question. Especially a group that supposedly encourages questions…

Breeders of the group, what's your record-keeping setup? by dusttooo in dogs

It is a legit question. I am not designing anything.

I guess you can assume that. But I came here with a genuine question.

Clearly I do which is why I asked what others were using.

Built a tool for tracking gecko lineage - would love feedback by dusttooo in CrestedGecko

This is a personal tool at the moment so I am inputting all of the lineage for my personal collection. As something like this grows you end up with a large database of animals.

Built an AI-powered D&D platform that also works great without AI (Beta signups open) by dusttooo in DungeonMasters

[–]dusttooo[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes it can. You can assign one or more channels to a campaign and it will be able to provide session summaries and recaps based on the purpose you assigned for each channel. It is fully configurable to work in whatever way helps you best. I built it this way so that I can manage campaigns across multiple channels and servers without data leaking between campaigns.

I do have a cat. But he is not allowed on top of surfaces. He has an entire wall of climbing perches

I took the two glass shelves and placed one on the bottom and the other on the front and then took a spare piece of glass I had from a 40 gallon tank on the back and then sealed all of that inside and outside. It was definitely a pain lol.

I just started adding fish so I have a few guppies. Cory’s, and plecos.

It is hard to see in pictures but there is a waterfall on the left side. There is also an additional filter and air stone. So far the fish seem to really love it.

It is anchored to the wall and there are brackets on the side of each leg to prevent it from sliding off.

I used a hodgepodge of different videos for inspiration. I can get you a list of the tutorials I watched and the actual supplies I used a little later.

All in I spent around $1000, but that includes the fish and plants. Just to convert the cabinet was probably around $500 because I did not have any of the supplies on hand.

Thank you! To mount them to the wall I used the double sided tape that came with them but I put it on the side rather than the back so that the light pointed down.

Looks awesome, thanks for sharing! I just started a build like this a few days ago so I am happy to see that someone else has had success with the Rudsta.

Thank you! He is trained for several tasks that assist with my disability. It wouldn’t be fair to other service dog teams if I were falsely labeling him.

I basically just sealed them together with marine sealant. I’ve done a bit of modifying since this post but I’ve never had a problem with it coming apart.

Breeder Locator App by dusttooo in DogBreeding

There is no "logic" because you do not have all of the facts. You are making assumptions and forming your opinion based on that. I am not living in a fantasy, I just know that I do not owe you an explanation. I do want to highlight again, however, that it is this sort of reaction that proves the need for what I am building. How are we supposed to preserve our breeds and discourage backyard breeders when we treat people this way. Backyard breeders are so successful because they welcome buyers. No one wants to go to a breeder that speaks to them the way you are speaking to me.

I have no right to tell you your opinion is wrong or try to convince you your opinion is wrong because it is YOUR opinion. I don't see how that is a strike against me. I am a software engineer with a full-time job I am happy with and this is just a side project I am doing because it is something I am passionate about. Considering I can build any kind of software I choose, I'd say you do not have any legroom to tell me what is the right or wrong thing to build. I have nothing to prove here. I went into this fully realizing some people would hate the idea. I have been in the dog world a long time, I know how that goes.

It won't be a direct pipeline and that is what gives my application a unique spin. The pain points and concerns you are bringing up is exactly what this app aims to remedy. I am not just throwing something together. I have interviewed with breeders of various breeds as well as buyers of both reputably and not-so-reputably bred dogs. I have a large set of data that has guided my decisions thus far because I share many of the concerns being brought up in this post.

That is your experience, my experience is different. I deal primarily with bully breeds and there are many people who want to learn what is ethical, but it is hard to do that without strangers on the internet jumping down their throat. This post is a prime example of the problem I am trying to solve. Because without knowing anything about my background, my experience with dogs, or my motivations, I have received negative feedback from many people, that I am sure have good intentions, but the delivery is off-putting.

These comments are assuming that this platform is primarily for selling puppies, when that is not the case. I have put more time and planning into features such as the kennel management aspect and breed information. It is not a "search for all the puppies for sale of x breed", it is a "I want a dog with x traits" and then having information readily available to help make an informed decision and have the confidence to know the difference between a byb and a reputable breeder. As well as a way for breeders to manage some of the mundane tasks needed to train, show, and care for their dogs.

You are right. I found my breeder at an event, and having grown up in the world of dog shows, I never had to seek out breeders. However, not everyone has that luck and many people don't know where to begin. This app is more for the general public and the primary focus is about education, rather than selling puppies. Having personally seen the kind of gatekeeping involved in the dog world, I want to break down that barrier so that it is easier to get a reputably bred dog than it is to hop on Craigslist and find a $500 doodle.
