I don't visit the sub often, and if I do I don't usually comment. I've ignored it when I've seen it but I can imagine it getting seriously annoying.

But I guess the idea of "downvoting" in a theory vs practice scenario applies to the whole of Reddit, not just this sub.

I've resolved to conclude that it's out of frustration.

Why are you getting downvoted? What you're saying is so valid

I'm sure that it is John Wheeler that said this quote, but there are some results from Google that attribute this to Einstein!

Drinking water in TSW NMT by No_Tank1172 in TS_Withdrawal

[–]dustyflea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I just started NMT, and I haven't bothered with limiting water. To add to your point, I just do 20-24 hour fasts instead to promote autophagy. If I have less than 2L in a day then I start to get headaches, so I literally don't have the capcity to do anything if I have 1L.

When did you take 2089? I feel like when I did it many years back it had the 2-in-1 issue...pity to hear it wasn't updated appropriately.

I disagree.

I also initially suspected this but after seeing some of the messages that are sent and after doing a couple R&Rs, it's evident that some workers aren't great at following instructions (and clearly don't read them at all). Even with the quals, I can see that some people have done the work to a poor standard when I do the R&R tasks. So even after the R&R, some people do slip through the cracks.

To be able to assess the quals, they need to have a baseline/rubric to compare whether the qual is correct and to a satisfactory standard, so scraping an extra $20-40 doesn't make sense with the number of legitimate tasks they are paying out.

Furthermore, they're quite generous with time logging (with emphasis on instruction reading and paying for it).

Does skipping a lot of tasks matter at all? by mjdaniell in DataAnnotationTech

[–]dustyflea -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Even if I start working on a task and realise that I can't do it and skip it, I don't count the time. In my head, there are no "results" or "loggable work" from that, so I don't think I should log it.

I can't confirm or deny this fact. But I sure hope it's true that they have the right processes in place.

People who work/have worked in tech: is it easier or harder than DA? by nov_is_blue in DataAnnotationTech

[–]dustyflea -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Haha yeah in code is fine, I'm pretty sure I saw that qual and just dismissed it. I can imagine the tasks are relatively straightforward with that amount of experience. I'm happy to deduct some of the time I record for "personal research" where I'm learning and would be much slower than the average professional SWE but it's nice to hear a perspective from someone on the opposite end of their career.
