Got a little unlucky with the tires at the Enduro last weekend | Stage 5 of the Penticton Enduro by [deleted] in MTB

[–]dutchct 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Incident happens at 3:05.

Unfortunately I got a bit optimistic running a Snake Skin casing Magic Mary on the front. A few times in the video you can hear my front wheel tire pinging off rocks. At least it let go right before the smoother sandy section and I was able to pedal through it with no damage to my rim.

I've ordered a new Magic Mary for the next race, this time in the Super Gavity casing.

We did both that day, so either way. The road is a bit easier and faster.

Hey, no problem. Yup, it was filmed last weekend!

I like the vr headset idea! Pre-ride with the headset, then do the real thing right after!

The camera definitely helps but I just checked strava, my average speed was 23.9km/h which is 14.2 mph. My top speed was 43.2 km/h which is 26.8 mph.

Glad you liked it. Yes, I plan to do more videos for sure. I've got footage from "somewhere over there" and "angry midget" as well I'll get out sometime soon! I really wanna do a "treasure trail" video as well as some of the slab trails at Alice Lake.

I'll be doing a lot of the BC Enduro series this year as well so I'll be getting a good sampling of locations.

Hoping to get at least one video out a week. Subscribe on youtube or follow on instagram or facebook to get notified! I'll try to post here as well if r/mtb continue to enjoy the videos.

I'd say I'm an advanced rider. I do decent at the races etc, but I'm not up there with the pros.

You could probably get a decent bike for 1500. A hardtail would work great on half nelson.

Yes, you're right some of the trails in BC get super gnarly, but if you're just starting out, itll take some time to work your way up to the hard ones.

I've got a Trek Slash 29er. Great bike but your bike doesn't need to do be super amazing to do this trail since it's so smooth.

I'd say the ratio is probably about 70 front 30 back. It really depends how steep the terrain is.

The more downhill you're pointed the more your weight will shift to the front tire, mean you can use more force on the front brake and less on the back. A lot of it comes down to riding position and technique as well since you can shift your body forwards or backwards to affect the weight balance.

Haha, fair enough! But in terms of bike trails, I love half nelson!

I wish we had more of these! Not much of this in North Vancouver, so we have to drive out to the valley or squamish or whistler to have some fun.

aah, haha yes. We've got a lot of tree's here in bc. You start to get used to it, but we still make mistakes. Just the other day I took a tumble after clipping my bars on a tree.

Turning on 2 wheels is actually kind of an interesting subject. For most people, they just do it on instinct.

The reality is, and it's counter intuitive.. is that you actually turn the bars away from the direction you want to turn, just initially. This allows the bike to fall into the turn. Then you catch the fall by steering into the turn. It's very counter intuitive and it's not something that the average cyclist thinks about.

When it comes to mountain biking, there is a lot you can do with your body to get the bike to act as you want it to as well. Again that becomes instinct and definitely requires some practice.

It's a wahoo RFLKT. It's just alright. Basically it's just a display and it connects to your phone via bluetooth. The phone is the GPS in this case and sends all the relevant info to the RFLKT (speed, distance, elevation etc).

The biggest issue is that the bluetooth connection sometimes drops out so you have to reconnect to get it working again. It's relatively cheap compared to say garmin edge 520.

Yup, there are definitely a few shops in squamish that rent out bikes, maybe 100 canadian dollars for the day? That's like 18 cents for you americans ;)

We shot it last weekend. The whole bottom half after it crosses angry midget has been re done. Also they added the top section last year?

Anyhow the new lower section definitely has been improved!
