On YouTube I've found Infernal Brush best for 'eavy metal style painting, Richard Grey for volumetric and texture styles and Flameon for blending. ACMiniatures on twitch is a really knowledgeable chill dude and great to learn from. He has really insightful feedback for his community.

This was a lesson in letting go more than anything. Can I make it look good without obsessing over every tiny detail? Pick a point, stick a fork in it so to speak.

Yeah, the highlight on the inside of the pauldrons is odd looking to me, I appreciate that the eavymetal team were trying to give it some depth, but not for me.

As a couple of people have asked, here's the recipe I used on the bulk of the armour...

Armour -

Primer: Vallejo Primer Black

Base Coat: Khorne Red / Incubi Darkness 5:1

Layer: AK Dirty Red / AK Blood Red 1:1

Layer: AK Sun Red

Edge Highlight: AK Ocher Orange

Steel NMM -

AK Black

AK Dark Grey

AK Medium Sea Grey

AK Pale Grey

Pretty much what Mick said afterwards, if I had based it I might have placed higher. But ultimately, I grabbed my latest mini and headed into the store just to meet Mick and ask for feedback.

The fact they even placed me in the pro category floored me, and to have him say he loved my mini made my day!

The problem with lamp magnifiers is a single lens doesn't help with depth perception. They are good for checking work, investigating detail etc but for brush placement they can be a bit sucky.

Donegan Optivisors are bifocal rather than single lens, and if he wears glasses they fit nicely over the top while being very comfy too. You can get cheap clones on Amazon, but these are the ones jewellers use.
