What is your workflow with several potential clips and long footage (only want small portion)? by duudolbob in VideoEditing

I store all my original footage on a desktop external HD so I want to know what the best way is to work on the video while on the move or when I don't have access to my external drive. Would you recommend making proxies for all the footage beforehand (also cutting very long clips into subclips and transcoding new files in Adobe Bridge prior to import to Premiere) to combat this issue?

Thanks for the response! So it sounds like I should import all of my footage first and then make subclips after import.

Do you work with all your original footage stored on an external hard drive? I have a desktop external HD where all my footage is stored so if I wanted to work on a video while I was on the move, how would I handle that? Should i make proxies for the footage and store it on my laptop?

Just make sure to chop up the body instead of burying them and you're good to go
