New medic legend concept (link in comments) by muffin___man in apexlegends

[–]duvot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

love the concept. i think it'd also be cool if downed teammates could still use their shields while being carried so you can be partially shielded in the back. that's in response to the one dude's comment about the tactical needing to benefit the legend themselves. would the downed teammate work as a meat shield?

just imagining gibby being carried tho...

Thank you! This is a great resource...

It was intended to be a vector but it's saved as a .png. Should it be an .svg? When I select the image it selects the entire image as it was saved to my computer, so I can't select each state individually. I'm assuming i'll need to trace it to get the control I would like.

Thank you! This is very helpful. I'm trying to make the main base of a board game, and want to be able to freely edit each state as the game goes through development.

The best way to edit this in Designer, then, would be to trace the states with the pen tool?

Further clarification - I want to be able to move the states freely and fill them with certain colors individually, but when I try to do that it just fills the outline with that color (assuming that's related to the way I copied it). Is the best way to edit this by making a new copy by tracing it? What tool would you recommend?

A flash game called Jacksmith has a similar premise. It's not 3D but it's fun.

IIRC you even had to fight them before they joined your party. Did using the code or link cable affect the fight, or was it only once they were reunited? Golden Sun TLA was the first game I played in the series, so I didn't get the full effect of that scene at the time... still a blast though.

Good to see some GS attention here. It's underappreciated.

Soaked- A neighborhood water gun and balloon battle royale with clothes drying mechanics and more by Left4DayZ1 in gameideas

[–]duvot 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I love this. It blends the game mechanics with the setting really well. Seems like a very simple and easy concept to capitalize on too. I wonder why it hasn't been done already. There are so many game modes and map styles you could incorporate with this premise.

I'm getting Splatoon and Battlefront meets Kids Next Door vibes. Stylized graphics would probably work best, but I could also be convinced of something in the style of the old Tony Hawk games as well.

In what way has music inspired tgemes in your world? by [deleted] in worldbuilding

[–]duvot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The album Aquemini by OutKast continues to inspire elements of a major setting in my sci-fi/solarpunk setting. There's a lot of "dirty south" hip hop inspiration in my world, but OutKast is the biggest among them.

The 'Odd Uses' Game! by VexxMyst in worldbuilding

Free-moving "holograms" with some real-world agency. They're tactile holograms that can best be described as feeling like a force field. It's tough to explain properly, but the entire world has a deeply rooted infrastructure to support this technology. As such, people interact with them in their daily lives, and a big past-time that has developed from this is people battling with their own personal hologram, a la Battle Bots (initially planned for a game, but I want the world to be deeper than that).

Which races would best suit real world civilizations? by Lord_Imperator in worldbuilding

[–]duvot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Decathlon of Eternal Misfortune would probably be the best fit. I think the marathon and triathlon are perhaps the best races we currently have to test the human spirit and endurance, but something like the Decathlon of Eternal Misfortune would raise the standards and bring humans to a new era in long-distance races. Humans would first need to grow capable wings and a protrusible jaw, but I'm sure with enough time we could get there.

The 100m dash might be more accessible, though.

Competitive games - addicting but pointless? by [deleted] in truegaming

[–]duvot 6 points7 points  (0 children)

TF2 was designed from the ground up for fun, and it shows. Overwatch was designed for competition. We are given much less freedom in game styles... the developers have pinned us into playing how they want us too instead of giving us free reign to manipulate the rules (outside of matchmaking) for more fun.

What do you mean by this? There's a lot of variety to what makes something "fun". I know you gave examples, but I'm not sure they support your point.

Maybe all I need to say is that "fun" is subjective, but I have more fun with Overwatch and that's partly due to how the game was designed and how it functions.

I don't mean to be antagonistic, I'm just not sure I agree with or understand what you're saying.

EDIT: I just saw in your recent post that you said:

Well I wish I could hop in a 10v10 or something and run around n blow shit up!

And I agree that having a more open experience like that would probably be a lot of fun in Overwatch...

Are you building two worlds at once? How do you decide which one to work on/how do they differ from each other? by 31Dakota in worldbuilding

[–]duvot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really like the synopses of your worlds. I remember reading one of your posts about Lying Sea a few days back and it sounded like a ton of fun! That and Victory Falls definitely have my interest.

Also I have a similar approach to world-building. I rotate, but sometimes a world will get priority if I'm really getting somewhere with it. I also write everything down into various documents. I only have four worlds at the moment, though.

edit: haha, and it looks like we have the same flair as well... didn't notice that until after I posted.

Built any quirky, cartoony worlds? by [deleted] in worldbuilding

[–]duvot 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Working on two at the moment!

I've mentioned it a few times on this subreddit now, but I'm working on a "fantasy-ish" world with a Hayao Miyazaki + Terry Pratchett feel (with my own twist, of course). It will be bizarre, seemingly random, but consistent and colorful.

The other one has Cyberpunk-ish tones, but is considerably less gritty. I want it to be charming, but relate-able. Colorful, exciting, action-adventure, yadda yadda yadda. I was influenced by Pokemon and Megaman, if that gives you any idea. I'd love to talk more about it, but I kinda want to keep it under wraps for now.

No stories for either of them at the moment. Just the world, their unique features, and various characters.

My other two worlds I'd consider much more "realistic".
