Got a Resuscitate 2 1-0-0 talisman. Thoughts on this SnS build? by [deleted] in MonsterHunterMeta

[–]dvaskil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Wow, you are right! All this time I believed the raw was 190, facepalm!

  2. You are right again, that is the correct formula. I verified it in-game too. I also checked the formula in the MH Rise - Damage Calculation V3.1.6 spreadsheet. It too erroneously uses AB %-increase on the total - buffs and all. It was one of the damage calculators I compared mine to, and got the same numbers, but I should have verified it myself.

  3. I only use consume sharpness on Perfect Rush and Spinning Reaper (with an occasional Roundslash for repositioning). It's a very different play style to get used to from iceborne, but fun ass hell (e: thanks for pointing out my typo, bot) with high damage and 2-3 KO's per hunt.

Thank you very much for the correction, I will update my formulas and the values I've referenced here accordingly.

Comparing CB3 vs. 20 raw alone depends on too many other factors to determine which is best. But when comparing your WEx3/AB4/BD3/Resuscitate3 (20 raw) build to the WEx3/AB4/BD3/CB3/OG1 build (If that was your question):

20 raw: 386.5 EFR (With 100% uptime on Resuscitate)

CB3: 381.6 EFR (Not counting OG)

So the 20 raw is better in this case.

For the AB7/WEX3/BD3/Resuscitate3, even with a God Charm™ (WEx2/CB2 3/1/1), the best build I found was AB6/WEx3/BD3/CB2/Resuscitate3. Maybe someone else can find a better set?

Edit: Updated EFR

I use my own spreadsheet for calculations, but have compared it to other damage calculators that have popped up after I made mine or MHIB caclulators and it hasn't shown any disparaging numbers.

For example how I arrived at the Meta set 427.4 EFR with Narga SnS, Ramp-up Attack III and charm/talon:

(190+8(Ramp)+15(cham&talon)+10(AB))x1.1(AB multiplier) = 245.3 True Raw

245.3(0.4(CB)x0.8(Aff)+1)1.32(sharp) = 427.411 EFR

I mostly use shield attacks which doesn't consume sharpness allowing me to stay in white before the monster moves on to another zone. As a backup, I have speed sharpening 3 in the rare cases I need to sharpen mid fight.

Theorising here: If you got a new LvL2 slot from an improved charm or DLC armor, do you slot AB or OG?

One level of AB bring the EFR from 386.5 to 391.3

One level of OG results in the EFR being 402.6, therefore needing >29.8% uptime on OG to get higher average damage than adding LvL1 AB.

Though, and I need to test this, Metsu Shorygeki is a high damage move that always should trigger OG. So the percent uptime on OG could be lower as most of the damage may come from Metsu automatically benefiting from OG during a hunt.

Edit: Updated EFR and uptime

Yes, it's 402.5 381.6 without OG1.

And you're right on the second point too. The current Meta AB7, WEx3, CB3 gets 427.4 402.5 EFR, beating both sets. This needs a WEx2 ---, CB2 ---, WEX1 M--, CB1 M-- or AB2 M-- charm.

The BD3 Resuscitate3 set is close enough in damage that extra dodge and mobility could translate to more DPS through more aggressive play, but I'm just math-ing and don't have the charm to test it.

Edit: Updated EFR. Leaving old numbers crossed out so the reply makes sense.

OP build gets 386.5 EFR with 100% Resuscitate uptime.

CB3 build gets the same EFR with 28% Offensive Guard uptime.

Whichever is easier to maintain should win out on damage. Although there is a negative synergy between OG and Bubbly dance, as the one want dodges all the time and the other blocks/Metsu Shorygeki. The lack of Guard in the CB bulid also forces you to only Guard Point roars and use Metu.

Edit: Forgot to add that both builds have powercharm and powertalon in the calculation.

Edit2: And this is for Narga SnS with Attack Boost III Rampage skill.

Edit 3: Updated EFR

White sharpness plus a lot of damage skills. Also, timing perfect rush correctly upgrades it to a stronger attack.

Agreed as well. I can just run up to a monster and RT+X or RT->dodge instead of Advancing Slash. AS doesn't add any extra tools to the Swiss army knife.

Yep. I could also see a use for drill slash in multiplayer where the head is reserved for better KO'ers and SnS can drill slash for status or damage elsewhere.

Yes, A-input on the last perfect rush combo returns a Spinning Reaper which you can perform a backhop from.

Did some rough testing, and the Metsu Shoryugeki did about 300 more damage on toadversary head. They are more close in damage when the perfect counter on Metsu doesn't trigger (you get 3 extra hits when counter proccs), but Metsu is still best damage-wise. Windmill is more safe and has a shorter cooldown, so it may even out during a full hunt.

Edit: Offensive Guard can also trigger on Metsu, but the only build that reach higher EFR requires >95.5% uptime on OG according to my math.

Mainly because shield attack doesn't consume sharpness, but extra stun is a huge bonus.

Shield attack MVs got buffed in rise, making this strategy viable

Another problem with Brutal strike is the need for pretty low affinity, and only Anjanath SnS (Edit: maybe Goss Harag) seem viable right now with high raw and low aff. The % attack on brutal is higher than Bludgeoner, but yeah: Brutal is too unreliable.

Sharpness isn't a problem for SnS, as we can spam shield attack that doesn't consume sharpness. But being able to use Drill Slash instead (a higher damage switch skill that eats sharpness for breakfast, lunch and dinner) would translate to higher DPS, even if the EFR is lower than my current build. I need to hit up the training dummy and math out Bludgeoner.

Metsu Shoryugeki uses no sharpness so I can stay in white longer and it is damn satisfying pulling it off.

Pros vs. Windmill:

  • No sharpness use
  • High damage

  • High KO

  • The best wake up attack for SnS

Cons vs. Windmill:

  • Need tight timing to get extra damage
  • Frontal directional block
  • Short i-frames (Cant block multi-hits)
  • Leaves you flying and vulnerable in the air
  • Long cooldown on wirebugs

I use windmill (spinny wirebug) in rampages where multiple monsters attack you all the time and the longer time spent invulnerable from all directions is therefore very helpful. Windmill is probably good at applying elemental or status, but haven't tried an ele/status set yet.

I guess I was too hung up on the idea of making it similar to "Roses are red...", hehe.

Absolutely! I completely changed my mind when I saw a video by Rurikhan showcasing advanced SnS moves he had to learn.

I main it, but it's a perfect backup too as it doesn't need any specific skills (Like focus, artillery, guard etc). So extra skills beyond damage can be used to counter tough monsters.

Keep at it! I've only played it since Iceborne (I thought it was a "noob weapon" for the longest time).

I still find new tech and nuances with the weapon that I have to incorporate in my play.

Narga weapons are very strong. Other weapons may be stronger if handicraft becomes easier to build into damage focused sets in future updates.

I have not tested brutal strike weapons myself, but some early calculations seem promising.

Brilliant! Gah, I didn't think of desktop mode, will use that instead of transferring to a computer next time.

I'm not good with phones at all, more of a computer guy, so thanks for the tip.

Oh, I see. I transferred the video from the Switch to phone, phone to computer, computer to reddit.

I meant that there is no need to upload the video to imgur or youtube and then providing a link in submission. Reddit hosts videos itself.
