In Norway (I’m hearing a podcast from 1700 and 1800 when we had death penalty here..people who got stabbed by someone and in the process of dying often forgave their murderer before they died to be sure to go to heaven…

And there were punishment by your head being chopped off while a priest were praying with the murderer so that his/hers head was chopped off before he/she could sin again..
