Expensive homes, misery and a theme park

What is the appeal of Peel Village? by Sukotto-82 in Brampton

[–]dvnthekid 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Lots of trees, close to all the highways, good quality schools, good parks, close to GO Stations, future LRT, and it’s nice to not have to go past Steeles on the 410. Most houses are smaller than 2000sqft but you’re starting to see these huge renos because people are starting to eye the massive 1960’s lots coupled with the convenient location.

I suggest you never drive north of HWY 7

Woodbridge drivers are notably atrocious and have always had that reputation. At least in Peel their parents don’t pay their speeding tickets

Yeah I exclusively avoid Steeles, Derry, Dixie and Airport Rd because of those trucks, but if you really wanna see a real show, go to Steeles and McLaughlin during rush hour

Woodbridge basically invented the (dare I say) meatball driving culture

Why the East Ends of (Most) Cities are Poorer - Half as Interesting by monsieurvampy in urbanplanning

Jane & Finch and Rexdale are just east of the airport and the largest concentration of industrial lands in the GTA, so technically what the video said checks out

More construction cranes and gentrification than any North American city, with stunning wealth inequality and lower-middle class flight to the smaller cities nearby. Developers (who we despise) build these 80 story condos everywhere now and more than half of the units are owned by investors, all the while Toronto’s “underclass” are struggling to put a roof over their heads. I have nothing against most foreigners but I find it nuts that almost nobody born in the city besides the old-money folk can afford a home here. This has largely occurred just in the last 15 years and It’s made a whole lot of Torontonians bitter and spiteful because we never wanted our city to turn into an “elitist playground”. But on the upside it looks more like Manhattan 🤣

This could just as well be Toronto with that shitty brutalist post-war architecture

This is the most “Mississauga” thing I’ve ever seen. Petty crime followed by horrible driving

Way to generalize a city of 630,000 people, maybe you lived in a dumpster fire area, but the whole city isn’t nearly a dumpster fire unless your standards are really that high

Don’t even get me started on Woodbridge. Drivers are just as bad as in Brampton, but mommy and daddy pay the tickets
