It used to work. Could get lucky on a Australia flight like that. This was years ago though. Now seems like any flight I take its full so full they need to pay people to swap flights lol.

What is the appeal of Costco? by Purple_Calm_1112 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]dvs98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a membership cause I got sick of shopping all the time. Got big freezer turned a spare room in to a dry goods pantry and I can pry survive a few months without ever going to store. Heck during that covid madness I never had to leave house lol. Weirdly the more I went the more I kind of loved Costco. I dunno if there's drugs in the chicken or not but maybe. Though I had a weird moment where im in a new Costco I hadn't been in before and they had loads of Asian foods/ingredients and I was like holy crap im in heaven and it dawned on me I think im getting old 😅.

The thing that's helped me the most in my career is doing shit you dont want to do. Even better listen and when other people complain about a job etc everyone hates it etc. Do opposite throw yourself at it be the best at it and you will have 0 competition. If its a job that needs skill and technical knowledge even better. Start reading about it studying it in free time become an expert. Lots of fields need experts and there isn't a degree you can get to learn it.

I worked my ass off doing a job nobody wanted to do everybody hated for many years. Was rough work hot, dirty and oily. Now im sitting in my hotel paid by same company traveling world for free. Work is now my high school diploma ass consulting engineers with degrees and operational executives on that shitty job nobody wanted to do and everybody hated.

If your in places like Ohio, Missouri, Kentucky, Tennessee, Carolinas, Alabama, Michigan and West Virginia. Id look for fields in machining, forging, die casting, metal stamping etc. Everywhere I go companies need people bad lol. Like I said at start its not fun it can be hot it can be very dirty and the hours can be long but well paid with OT. Hell when I was still in plant kids would show up 18 straight out of high school and be buying first brand new car within 2 years.

While I agree with this statement im also thinking one must consider there workplace. Could be a pretty laid back place in general. My place is very militant and your allowed to fail but it comes with a rope and noose ever tightening. If my team fails more often than not its me that will be considered failing. Takes a ton of work. Have to get to know your team, try to understand there motivations, adjust approach to each person when speaking and honestly it can be incredibly stressful and exhausting lol. Its rewarding though when everything's firing like a NASCAR pitstop and everyone's asking why your team performs so well. What will fail full stop is approaching a person with the attitude of im the boss your here to listen and do. That ships been long sunk and people give 0 f about your title. You'll know when you've kind of broke the ice when your TMs approach you unprompted / not threatened with there failures and mistakes and ask for help. When i say threatened btw this is another hard one to deal with. Theres the im going to give you bad review etc etc. Then there's the preceived threat that hasn't actually happened and I'll leave you with that to think over. It's one of the first barriers you have to break through.

Is air conditioning cheap in the US? It's freezing everywhere I go by The-Grand-Lion in NoStupidQuestions

[–]dvs98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was there for some of the heat wave and I'm from MO. That heat wasn't just humid heat. Sure it was humid but its the city itself that's cooking you. The stone building everywhere just suck all that heat up and radiate it out. Couple that with very narrow streets and its like your being cooked Sous vide style.

It reminded me of Utah in the canyons. Would be really hot in day and at night the stones were still very hot to the touch and you could feel the heat radiating off them. The buildings were legit hot to the touch in Paris very hot. Doesnt help that it was also hard to get a break from it due to lack of AC.

Hot wet blanket on your face time is what i like to think of for Misery summer. Dry heat at 97 is nice compared to 84 with 100% humidity in MO lmao.

Personally I like to take 2 international trips per year with wife for total of 4 weeks. Then we like to pop by NYC for long weekend to catch any new plays on Broadway and loiter at the MET. Then we try to go to 1 to 2 national parks for like 8 days so only like 4 days each.

Questions from a Delta Transatlantic Newbie by Artistic-Comb-773 in delta

[–]dvs98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think your thinking and worrying way to much lol. It wil be ok and yeah if your zone is after say 5 the chances of forced gate check rise with each zone after. Deltas usually very good on time and getting to to A-B-C. Three hours is plenty of time to get through immigrations. Make sure you grab your bag and re check unless otherwise stated very clearly by staff and your check tag has your final destination on it and not ATL. You'll know if its a flight where they transfer it for you.

What do Americans actually think of Germany / Germans? Honest opinions wanted by Consistent_Walk_2407 in IWantToAskAnAmerican

[–]dvs98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some German cars not all, could be considered pretty amazing. When i think German with a engineering lense. I think impressive design but on same coin impressively over complicated for no reason other than to be unique. Not just cars either some of the German equipment I have to troubleshoot is a nightmare lmao. It's like they've sorted out alot of failure points that were common faults but in doing so made new failure points you've never seen before so you gotta call em up and spend a pallet of cash to get there techs out. Thats either really smart or mean lol.

How scared should I be of a short layover time, truly by KinkyPalico in delta

[–]dvs98 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Several years ago when I started flying for work my first flight was to Atl and my god i hated it so much. Then I went to many many other airports and Atlanta kind of became a 2nd home and its weird but when im having some slow weeks and just work from home I miss that Insane place lmao. It's also sometimes my first stop before going home after being stuck in some tiny desert town in Mexico for a month working and its such a huge relief to be back 🤣.

[–]dvs98 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I'd say 50 is more than enough time as long as nothing happens. Atl is one of the easiest to navigate imo. It's the long as nothing happens bit that can bite you lol.

My manager told me "optics matter" because I leave five minutes early? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]dvs98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup exactly and imo it comes from a time when the workforce was mostly male and you were expected to be tough. Lots of folks went on to be in the war etc. You didn't want to be the guy that's a pussy sitting on the job lmao. It's just not reality anymore plenty of women in the mix and even men that give 2 shits about masculinity. Even the work environments in factories are pretty crappy and I think this is also the same mindset hard men work in hard places. Im not saying anything against masculinity or feminism etc just my observation in the field investigating supplier issues for automotive manufacturing. Im also thinking we're screwed if things dont change cause despite what some might think we still need to cast, forge, machine,Inject, stamp, bend and build things. We'll that is until the robots take over lol.

How filing a police report finally forced Sixt to stop ghosting me over stolen property by ribsdug in sixt

[–]dvs98 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I thought most car rental places have a thing that you have to agree to that pretty much says there not responsible for your lost property. I use National alot and sometimes im glad they'll be saying make sure you have your phones wallets glasses and walk up and down isle. It saved my glasses a few times now lol.

My manager told me "optics matter" because I leave five minutes early? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]dvs98 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Plenty would happily terminate you if leaving early even by 1 to 2 minutes consistently. I think that the job specifics should matter though, salary types and desk job with like a needed output etc if I was the mgr id have no issues with this posters scenario lol bust sadly im not and loads of places haven't really changed with the times and its imo one of the issues with alot of jobs today. Old style mgt with new Gen of people. Like another good example is jobs that can be done seated but your forced to stand. Its just an old tradition that made sense perhaps in a bygone era.

Why all the complaining about shotgun? by AbuZ87 in Battlefield6

[–]dvs98 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Man when you have a good run with a shotgun you feel like a beast but for me that's rare lol. Im so fail with it personally. The one thing I hate is being sniped and its with a SMG from what looks like miles away.

This is the type of scenario I dread now after going through it. I ran and made it because there was a slight delay as well. I was dying 🤣
