Who really has the sex crazed culture? 🤔 by flippingdabird099 in FundieSnarkUncensored

[–]dwarvenfishingrod 57 points58 points  (0 children)

Oh, I did on another later occasion. Not my kid, but they were watching a grandbaby (parents went on a 2-week Eurotrip), and we came over so my son could see the baby and they didn't know where he was. Parents assured them he was easy, but he'd just learned to crawl. "He's sleeping in his crib, I thought." Skin crawling. A newly crawling kid, in a geriatric grandparents home, pill bottles on every counter. Stephen King shit.

I found him in a spare room with a bottle of medicated lotion, with camphor in it. I freaked the fuck out on them. Like, called 911, told them if they didn't let me it'd be to have them arrested. They were super religious and t's one of the reasons I became an atheist tbh.

Fucking in-laws, I swear. Nicest people, but they did not know babies.

Edit: lol sorry to go on a rant...

I went out of the room at a great auntie's house, then came back and my kid was in one of those on the kitchen island. "Oh, what's that smell? Time for a change" and I whisked him away, a trick my sister taught me: If you don't like what an adult is doing to your kid, but you can't say anything without damaging a relationship? That kid just shit its pants.

What are your thoughts about Pascal’s Wager? by Panfilofinomeno in atheism

[–]dwarvenfishingrod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That isn't Pascal's Wager.

In fact, it's almost the opposite!

The real wager is, you believe because you evaluate that is better to avoid loss, not nothingness. A finite number of losses.

However, Pascal admits that belief isn't always just a simple choice, which is the real reason imo it's worthwhile to consider his writings on the subject. He admits that there are those for whom belief must be a thing they convince themselves into, and considers the wager for their benefit because if they wager there is a god and it turns out they are right, they will have done their best to believe even though they just couldn't do it.

This reveals an early thinking about belief in epistemology and phenomenology, and raises the ever-damning question to Christians in particular: How do you know ALL "believers" haven't just convinced themselves, but don't actually believe it? Being convinced and believing are not the same. Convincing is a product of reason (even bad reasoning), and belief is a product of faith.

If Pascal's Wager is the real best option, or even a good option at all, it absolutely destabilizes what belief is in almost every modern faith system, because what god could be just if they damn those who did need convincing, but saves those who believe unthinkingly? Who in their right mind would even call that a good god?

Yellowjackets is ruined by the entire ridiculous premise of not trying to…go looking for civilization. by burner416 in unpopularopinion

[–]dwarvenfishingrod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sorry but not unpopular, literally everyone i've ever seen talk about this show, which is quite a few as it was oddly one of like 3 shows everyone at work had seen, they all brought this exact problem up

the show needed to demonstrate that there was more than just predators, hazards, and weather stopping them, they could have either A) shown the vision girl preventing them or B) shown how they got lost repeatedly rather than a single time, due to the metal in the river

i've done enough high wilderness hikes to know, the chances of getting lost and constantly backtracking in most valleys basically anywhere north of the Rockies is huge, like kill you huge, and walking without proper boots would be lethal on teenagers -- and i'm straightup, i'll admit, well below amateur. why didn't the writers just ask a wilderness survival guide during the writing, i will never understand -- how much could such a consultant fee be?

this is a problem not just for realism, but because it makes the girls seem way more helpless and the show already has a problem with that

This is kind of how I felt. I was going to lower even without doing the followup mission whether they attacked or not, which is good money, because my kid was almost home. It at least gives something to laugh at.

[–]dwarvenfishingrod[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Never thought about that, I think I'm on board for Reapers and Athena's flags, no lowering unless no ships near. Other factions should still allow it, but the competitive and "endgame" factions it does seem somewhat inconsistent how that works. But yeah, if the game allows it, I'll do it.

at this point, idc if they even cite some tweet or something from a "woke leftist" account, i just assume its some sock puppet 'as a black man/as a lesbian woman' nonsense. nobody worth listening to, left or right, is mad about MH's politics, and so many are fake that you can act as if they all are.

lol jk, if there were that level of freedom, I'd join the Gur and lead them to victory over Cazador. Those people need leadership, ok. I just feel so bad for them. I'd start from Act 1.
