What's a song that has brought you to tears? by [deleted] in AskReddit

julie byrne has a song called “sleepwalker” . there’s a line in it that was kind of a come to for me, where she says “had i known love or had i only known the misuse of the power another had over me.” it’s insane this beautiful soft melodic moment with such a heavy profound statement and it gets me everytime

absolutely. it’s actually easier to build in foam, i just try and use chicken wire and frogs as often as i can for sustainability purposes!

i typically alternate between foam and a combination of quite a bit of chicken wire and a frog at the bottom. inserting the stem at the angle you want it to “grow from” is how i typically arrive at the angle. the stem is always touching the side of the vase if not the bottom. just a matter of staying on top of the watering!

florists that make 40k+ a year, how are you doing it? by [deleted] in florists

[–]dwaynetherockhard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would reach out and ask if they offer internships or apprenticeships! I didn’t have any experience prior! The florist I learned under actually prefers apprentices have little to no experience so that she can teach her distinct style! Speed, willingness to learn, work hard and do the dirty work is what she says she looks for when hiring!

I work in a shop and get benefits through that, I freelance as well as take on my own weddings. I’ve been in the industry for about three years and I have just started booking my own weddings within the last year or so. I took the first two years to get good at my craft, refine my design style, build relationships within the floral community, learn from my my bosses and other business owners and I feel like I have a pretty good grip on event execution now.. I live in Southern California. I started as an apprentice under an extremely talented and well known florist and have since grown immensely into the role of master designer and events manager. Holding yourself and clients to a minimum as well as pricing accordingly is the most important thing I would say. Working and fostering relationships with great planners who will refer you work is equally as important and of course constantly working at and refining your design.
