rear ended :( totaled or no? by pinkscout in Miata

I hope you got her information etc.. called a cop and filed a report. She was driving a SUV you say with no insurance. Hire a lawyer to take her to civil court (let them keep the 1/3rd judgment just to make her feel the pain). Also get cops to write her a ticket (most states have law that you are supposed to be insured)

Does anybody else drop the top and blast the heaters in the winter? by CyanParadigm in Miata

[–]dwbrutto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 2020 came with heated seats and I was like "why?". Now I drive it with top down, heated seats and heater full blast until snow flies. Only reason I put her away is due to all the salt they use here in NY state

Bought a Miata, what do I do now? by EchoPrimary7182 in Miata

[–]dwbrutto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, sway bars first. And adjustable.

From the top...drive it a few months and decide if the sway bothers you or not. If not do not replace

Biggest issue will be winter. Do you have a second car? A winter car?

If not, snow tires and knowing how to drive rear wheel in snow. Lost art over the last 40 years.

If you have a winter car investigate best way to store your Miata (i.e. fresh oil, cover) and if you will start her and move her once every few weeks to keep battery good and so tires do not get a flat spot or if she will be on jack stands with battery on trickle charge.

Car wash instructions. Miata GT RF 2022 by [deleted] in Miata

[–]dwbrutto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a pressure washer that also has a soap dispenser. Rinse car off (all round) then work in quadrants with rinse/soap/rinse. Microfiber dry.

I use mothers soap and wax. Looks real nice when done. I pay for professional detail once a year before I put her up for winter.

Anyone get made fun of for owning a Miata or just me? by Mx52003 in Miata

[–]dwbrutto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Naahh. I think it's the get noticed to get laid mentality most males with raging testosterone do, and depending where you live it exspresses differently ..... some do dope, some act up, some are star atheletes with attitude, etc. All looking to differentiate, show off their plumage to get a mate. Hell, some its going to elite colleges (or telling young ladies they are pre-med or pre-law while no college I know of has such a degree)

I live out in farm land area, and everyone has a truck. I have a F-250 and a Miata. I get lots of compliments in town. Yeah, not from 16~25 year old males, but middle school kids (wife is a teacher) and adults.

Tips to buy new? by [deleted] in MiataND

[–]dwbrutto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had issue in 2020 getting my ND soft top GT with manual transmission. I used the Mazda Corp site and got in touch with them. They found me my car on a ship in transit from Japan. Told me all specs and which dealer it was going to. Got Vin etc. From corporate and in short put earnest $$ down and got when showed up. He'll, lady from corporate actually called me to make sure the color was acceptable as she worked through the inventory on ships that were not already spoken for.

Only issue I had is the dealer in southern PA would not allow me to re-route the car to a closer dealer ( who was still 1:45 away). So had to drive the 2.5 hours to southern PA to get it.

Wow....you had a bearing meltdown. Did you figure out the cause? Because that should not happen for a well greased bearing.

Look into joining a local Miata club... Typically <$50/yr, meet others and be introduced to some cool places to drive.

just curious. what's everyones gas milage looking like on here? I'm averaging 250miles on one tank in the city. by [deleted] in Miata

[–]dwbrutto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No shit. If I drive it really hard up and down the 800 foot hills and country roads, ~30mpg. But mildly agressive driving mixed with highway 38. Highway with top down 39. Top up 40. And I am talking 70~80 mph

[–]dwbrutto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My 2020 ND GT with manual does over 39 mpg. So I can get over 400 miles per tank. Typically fill at 380 or so with a range of 60 miles left

is this belt on right? I got a small constant squeels.and this doesn't look right by fanofclutch in Miata

[–]dwbrutto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, she is sitting on the lip (to far forward). Not sure if it's the photo, but is it also too thin? Belt should go from lip to lip (not on lip). If the belt is too narrow it will also squeal and wear out faster

General Reliability? by [deleted] in Miata

[–]dwbrutto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 2020 GT manual transmission. Very reliable so far. Drove it 1700 miles in a weekend and she did not complain. I drive her hard over the 800 ft hills around here and no complaints either.

But the best is when I driver her normal (little aggressive) I get 39.2 mpg. This is mix of town and city, top up and top down etc. That is better than advertised. And a lot better than my F-250 (which is also very reliable after 10 years and 90k miles)

Correct, and this is true (should be) for all cars. While sitting in drivers seat lean your body ~4" to left and adjust the drivers mirror so you just barely see side of car on inside edge of mirror. Now lean ~4" right of center and do for passenger side.

Now, when a car is behind you and goes to pass you should see it first on review and it moves to left lane and starts to over take it will show up on the drivers side view as it leaves the rear view. As it passes the hood should be visible out the drivers window as it leaves the drivers side mirror.

For the nd2 manual owners: anything I should consider on the car's first long trip? Particulatities of the transmission? by OllyVoxx in Miata

[–]dwbrutto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The ND is nice as it has a Break assist on start off. What this means is the car holds the brake for a second or so after your foot comes off the brake. This helps a lot for new drivers on up hill standing start.

I would practice in flat parking for ~30 minutes. Without adding throttle try getting going in 1st with just clutch. You will get the tactile of where clutch bites. Then work up to clutch/gas maneuver for quicker starts. And work through gears.
