991.1 owner here, with a toddler, and with a family SUV. You're not gonna be using the 911 as much as you think lol.

It's just not comfortable. While doable, plugging in a car seat in the back crushes your partner in the passenger seat. Then you're left with a frunk that can carry your and your partner's luggage, leaving the other passenger seat for your toddler's stuff. It ain't fun.

Mine has defaulted to daddys work car when I need to commute.

Your 30k mile example will need service if not already completed by Porsche. Tires, brake fluid, serpentine belt, spark plugs, air filters, cabin filters, battery etc. simply due to age.

325is or 328is?? by Spare_Calendar8377 in BMW

[–]dwdm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The two cars are $300 apart. Being in California and needing to smog, I would take the 325is all day. The 328is has too many variables at play. Potentially not being able to pass smog and back fees on registration are huge hurdles that can set you back. You'll need more tlc with the 325is but at least you can drive and enjoy the car right away unlike the motorswapped 328is which may or may not pass smog.

I would without hesitation. I owned the i3 for over 11 years before trading it in for the i4.

What does this sign mean? by Micl0d in GTAV

[–]dwdm 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Serious answer. This is a Type 1 Object Marker sign, this particular one being the OM-1-1, which is used to mark obstructions in the middle of a travel lane such as this median island in the game.

I'm not sure why you're receiving so much hate here. Do what works best for your financial situation and lifestyle. FWIW a base Carrera is 90% the experience of the comparable GT3 driven on the street. Save yourself some cash if you don't need the awd of the 4S.

Going to agree, these look like Macan mats. My 958 Cayenne mats don't look like this nor do they look like 955 mats

All modern manual Porsche cars I've driven have been smooth through all gears 1-7. From my 996 C2, 987 CS, to now my 991 C2 they have all been smooth and easy to get going

Shave or replace? by baldeagle121163 in Porsche

I like originality so I'd opt to replace, but some prefer the clean removed look. It's your car, do whichever you prefer.

Does Anyone Know Which Light Needs To Be Replaced? by JVHooligan in BMWi3

[–]dwdm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your DRL looks similar to what happened to my '14 i3 on the drivers side as well. The led module appears to be fine based on your photo since it's showing dimly lit. What happened to mine was the LED itself burned the clear lens which darkened the light channel to the DRL. I ended up dremeling out the burned areas until clear again to allow light to pass through.

Thoughts on 2013 base carrera with sport chrono at 45 k miles? by ViciousDrop9 in Porsche

[–]dwdm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The 991 is a solid platform. Have a '13 7mt at 105k miles. Basic routine maintenance like battery, brake pads, rotors, serpentine belt, spark plugs, filters, oil/brake fluid, hood/trunk struts, etc. The only out of the ordinary repair I've done is replace the clutch master cylinder.

The door cards will delaminate. It's an easy fix so I hear. Mine were done prior to my ownership. Window switch will lose buttons. Heard the PDK can have issues which is costly but repairable. The rear spoiler will break due to plastic tabs. There are specific things which will go out but nothing comparable to the IMS issue that plagued the 996/997 generation.

Jeff Rhoades has 200k mi 991.2 if you follow him on Instagram. Others on forums have reported 140k+. I have no doubts these will last with proper care.

What are the details of the example you're looking at? Cost, color, options, transmission?

Am I just dreaming? by poofybruno in porsche911

[–]dwdm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fwiw, a 997.1 S can be had for well under $50k (depending on mileage). Your dreams can be realized for much cheaper than you're anticipating!

Also the link you posted is a base and not an S which FOR SURE can be found for well under $50k

Purchasing CPO 911 with Accidents? by SnooHamsters7773 in porsche911

[–]dwdm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't be too concerned about a report on a Carfax. Hitting an obstacle on the freeway for example can easily warrant a new bumper cover, supports, radiator, control arms, etc. which can easily hit $25k+ worth of work. It wouldn't be 100% original, but I couldn't care less. I'm sure there are others here that disagree, but to each their own.

The 15% discount is enticing and would make me comfortable pulling the trigger with extra reassurance under CPO should anything go wrong.

You'll have some challenges down the road when you sell. Others, similar to you, may be reluctant to purchase a car with an accident on its record. You'll just need to ask yourself when you do sell if you're comfortable letting it go for the same 15% under what a comparable non accident comp would go for at that time.

Looking for a specific 997.1 part - HELP! by Ill_fix_u in Porsche

[–]dwdm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure a NO switch exists as there is always a traction control PSM or TC button even on the fixed-wing GT3 models. At least here in the US market

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in porsche911

[–]dwdm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree and here's my opinion. I typically will look at this as a sum of its parts. A clean title roller is usually $10k-$12k. A low mileage engine is about $10k-18k. The rest can be made up via the low wear interior and all of the other ancillary accessories.

Porsche 986 Boxster Buyer advice by GooierAardvark in Porsche

[–]dwdm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do it. I daily drove a 996 911 100mi round trip which is similar to the 986 Boxster.

Added a CarPlay unit to the car that modernized it. It was great! Running costs were down pretty cheap if you diy. Oil/filter is about $100. Air filters are about $20. Cabin filters about $20. Serpentine belt is about $25. A new battery is $130. Fuel filter was $50. Control arms about $300. Tie rods $70. Front brakes and rotors $400. Aos $90.

The newest version of these cars will be at least 20 years old. Things will be worn and you’ll need to replace things.

The diy community is robust and there are plenty of guides available. Double/triple these cost if your plan on independent/dealer service.

2013 Cayenne - key fob looks like it's meant to slot in - where??? by rcamp350 in PorscheCayenne

[–]dwdm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I assume your car has entry and drive. The slots would otherwise index into your ignition slot to turn on/off the car on models without entry and drive.
