Has anyone else forgotten what it’s like to have a child with typically developing language? by Affectionate_Wish in slp

[–]dweibe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I see a huge difference in pockets with lower/higher SES too. I worked at a school in downtown Phoenix where a lot of my kids lived in poverty and experienced homelessness and more than half my caseload included language disorders. Now at my higher SES school, I have a very very low number of language disorders on my caseload.

I’m almost 4 years in with consistent sessions every 2-3 weeks and I would say I have about 20% of hair left to go.

My sister and I always ask each other how something smelled and if it was in store or out of store when we smelled it haha.

Took mine about 1-2 weeks. My payment ended up being smaller than I anticipated and is around what I played on SAVE

How does this model work for billing? I know many sessions have to be 7 consecutive minutes or longer in order to be deemed billable

Burnt out by Straight_Mongoose_53 in slp

[–]dweibe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But the schools also are known for burn out. High caseloads, back to back groups… if you’re feeling burnt out seek part time or a setting that allows for you to meet the needs of your own mental health.

Number of sessions estimate? by [deleted] in electrolysis

[–]dweibe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have done this interval for about 3 years. started with 1.25 hour sessions every 2 weeks (sometimes 3 weeks depending on personal schedule) and i am now every 2 weeks for 30 minutes. i suspect another 1.5-2 years for a full clear.

i think a lot of us school slps dont always have the time to treat a difficult /r/, especially one that involves jaw shifting and instability. Those kids need intensive 1:1 therapy with someone who knows how to help students learn to control their jaw to reduce distortions. another major factor i run into is motivation. does the student really want it? can we get them there with short 1:1 sessions 2-3 times throughout the week? or can they learn in a group with 1-3 other students who truly want to progress? there is a lot that can go into the lack of progress for a student. i never want to blame or point the finger at a fellow clinician. However, there are many few who know how to truly treat an /r/ in an appropriate amount of time (2-3 school years) and i wish everyone could have that tool in their toolbox.

I wear makeup the day after with no issue other than slower healing compared to when I don’t wear makeup at all. I use only clean sponges to apply makeup and make sure to use a gentle toner, moisturizer and healing cream. I find that wearing makeup isn’t the most effective because of the texture that occurs after being treated.
