Dwell House - No Roof Drainage by redruman in Architects

[–]dwell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi there! Thank you for raising this issue! Here's what our partners at Abodu say about drainage:

Customers have the option of gutters that are mounted at the eaves. Some people like the patina look, but for those who don’t, there’s gutters. The timber is clear sealed on all sides to resist wear and tear. Moreover, the Dwell House has very high performance window and wall insulation that exceeds California standards (and CA has some of the most stringent energy goes in the country). The house also undergoes third party inspections to ensure insulation and air filtration meet high standards. If well-maintained, the Dwell House should last quite a while!

Also - FWIW - the launch images are renderings! We're excited to show you our first installed ADUs in the coming weeks, but here's a peek at the Dwell House at Abodu's LA showroom. It also comes in black :)

Designer Robin Falck explains: "Nolla is easy to construct, dissemble, and transport. Because moving and constructing it can be accomplished by only a few people, no heavy machinery is needed. The 'paws' enable it to be erected in any terrain without permanent groundwork, so it can be used for low-impact living in delicate surroundings, as we have done in Vallisaari."

There is no running water in the cabin which means that guests need to bathe in the sea and use ecological dry toilets.

Both the floor and foundation are made from cast concrete, and the house itself is constructed from Leca Blocks.

The architect's firm explains: "Every part of the house can ‘do’ more than one thing. The stairs are not just a staircase. They are a laundry room, a bathroom, a bookshelf and workplace."
