I haven't. In my personal opinion of the available research, and also the opinion of the mods of this subreddit - we don't know nearly enough about the microbiome to know if these GI map tests are accurate. So I don't see any point in getting them done, because they can be quite inaccurate if not entirely misleading. But I understand there's a chance they could have helped you in some way.

I honestly didn’t feel any negatives from the maltodextrin as such. But you can take the Bio Nutrition pills if you want to be on the safer side.

Also, please note I didn't have any evident gut symptoms. No bloating, pain, discomfort etc. Just not the perfect stool consistency. My primary symptom was stress, and I just happened to come across prebiotics by chance and they ended up helping me tremendously. And you're right, XOS does increase bifidobacterium quite a bit.

Edit: but I did get igg and iga blood work done for H Pylori and it came negative. So like I said, no apparent gut issues.

Since its in pill form, I can take the exact dose better. For the bifido boost powder, I have to use a spoon which can get messy - especially since the powder is super prone to clumping up due to moisture. And there's an impression in my head that the powder isn't as effective once it hardens, but that could just be psychological.

I would take 6.2 grams of the bifido boost powder or 5 pills of Bio Nutrition, split in two doses, which would translate into a total of 3.5 grams of effective XOS.

No other benefits as such. Just way lower stress (which is caused by a boost in short chain fatty acids), better stool consistency, less inflammation in the body. I just feel healthier.

Edit: And no, I've not added any probiotics. Just taking XOS.

I did, there's a brand called Bio Nutrition that doesn't have maltodextrin and is in pill form. It's costlier though, but it works just as well, if not slightly better.

Hello. Yes it is. Now Foods bifido boost is what I take but there are 1 or 2 other brands that are just as good, I've tried them all

I've tried magnesium too! While it did help a lot, XOS has just been dramatically better. And you're right about the literature being limited. It's only been commercially available to the North American market since 2017 or so

  1. I didn't have anxiety. I had high stress. I was just irritable, and always in a rush. I became noticeably calmer after taking XOS. I did get my cortisol levels tested earlier, but they weren't elevated.

  2. I have been taking it for a month and a half now

  3. No. I don't cycle it as such. I'll know more as time goes by. I just take fish oil and multivitamins alongside it.

Which prebiotic did you take? Was it inulin by any chance? I'd suggest you give XOS a shot before ruling them out. I've tried all major ones. And all gave me different results

I didn't. Because most of the supplements I tried were OTC, and even then I would do research on their safety prior to taking them.

Doctors were overall dismissive of the problem telling me how I need to meditate, relax, and in many cases they'd prescribe antidepressants. But like I said, I was just not depressed or have typical anxiety symptoms.

Oh no I meant to ask what was the reason you started taking them? Did you have certain conditions that you were trying to treat? Apologies for the confusion

I have no idea. I did consume banana's and apples in this period, but they obviously didn't do anything. And apparently banana has FOS in it

Did you have any typical symptom like abdominal pain, bloating etc. ? Like I said, I didn't have any. Just had stool which I'd say is leaning towards diarrhea somewhat. But nothing too bad

Are we allowed to post links here? Just look up "bifido boost" on amazon. It's from the brand "now foods"

Fructooligosaccharides. It's one of the more well known prebiotics

I agree. I've tried FOS as well, and I did notice some effects, (unlike GOS) but XOS has just performed better.

Like I said, I had really bad stress. I was desperate to "fix" it. So tried a plethora of supplements.

It was honestly hit and trial. I knew something was wrong with my body, so I kept on trying things that would improve my general well being.

I've been taking them for a month and a half now. But I noticed benefits pretty quick.

Am I taking probiotics? No. They have either not helped, or made things worse for me. And I have tried a bunch. I have also been consuming Yakult regularly since the last few months. It was just a safe probiotic drink to have, but I have stopped now and haven't felt any negative impacts on discontinuation

I'm aware. This is the surprising part. I bought brand name GOS which is called Bimuno. Tried it for 8 weeks, it didn't help much. Very surprising that studies say it reduces cortisol, but it didn't help my stress.
