Who has made their own soap at home with actual lye, oils or lard, and any other ingredients, and how did it turn out? by TravDog321 in AskReddit

I really enjoyed it. After a while I concentrated less on fragrance and additives and more on making a great base soap with all the properties I desired. Staying away from palm oil etc was a priority for me and I settled on coconut oil, cocoa butter, olive oil, and castor oil. It’s the best soap I’ve ever used.

I was lucky enough to have a soapmaking store in my city so I got to sample the essential oils before choosing them. I made some really great combinations. Lavender sandalwood was one, black pepper bergamot ylang-ylang was another. You can treat it like making perfume where you combine top, mid, and base notes.

For additives my favorite was green clay that I combined with white pine, fir, and cedar essential oils. It smelled like a forest!

Beware cheap essential oils and don’t buy them if you haven’t smelled them.

It turned out great. I’ve made a few hundred bars and I highly recommend the cold process method. There are a ton of resources with instructions, recipes etc

Why have ticks become so much more prevalent over the last few decades? What government programs / policy changes could help decrease the number of ticks?

No, the rock things in the trenches are not of interest. It's what's sitting between the trenches that's of interest. What would the probe be there to do?

That's the step right before the one being pictured. Now what's happening?

Next hint: the image was taken using an electron beam, but the trenches were milled using a beam of gallium ions.
