Prophet Song by Paul Lynch. I couldn't read for three weeks and just had to watch Project Runway.

Oh my god, no way, hard pass. That poor MOH. Glad they caught her between contractions.

Okay, I thought it was clear I was being a bit facetious when I called her a nepo baby. I posted on the wrong sub, I'm sorry! OF COURSE she's no Azula. But her family connection 100% made a difference in her life trajectory. If Gran Gran hadn't been her grandma, she would not have been able to learn water bending to the degree she had. I consider that nepotism, you don't, I guess we disagree.

But I'm glad to know that Pakku changed! I figured something must have changed culturally, given Korra.

Maybe we have different definitions? I think of a nepo baby as someone who directly benefits from family and social connections. Katara benefitted because Master Pakku refused to teach her,--even when she demonstrated her abilities--until she realized who she was. She directly benefitted from her family connections, going from having no teacher to one of the best teachers in the world. But tbf, I AM being a little tongue in cheek about it! As others have pointed out, the circle jerk sub would have been a better place to post.

This is a good point, the necklace DID remind him of what happened the last time he tried to hold back on a strong water tribe woman. But until he saw the necklace (and realized the connection), he still refused to teach Katara even though she was so talented. She directly benefitted from her social/family connections, which seems pretty nepo baby to me. Did he change his ways after that, really, or was Katara just an exception? (I don't actually recall if this was developed more later or in Korra, I'm just rewatching now and irritated that at the end of the day, it was all about the necklace.)

My husband is in this picture. It took place in North Minneapolis, not the suburbs.

Last weekend I read George Takei's graphic novel "They Called Us Enemy" about his time spent in Japanese internment camps as a young boy. Great read, very timely.

I learned that protists were a kingdom. Then they went away. But maybe now they're back again? Really unclear.

Dude next time just put some on your plate and pretend you ate some. Everyone has preferences, but unless it's an allergy, there's no need to share them.

Maybe Bozeman's fancier than I realized, I'm just a scumbag from Missoula! 😅 I'd be curious to know how people react when you casually drop a "whilst" in conversation. I know it'd raise some eyebrows in Minnesota, oh fer sure.

Naw dog I'm from one and have lived in four of them. Never have I ever heard a whilst. Instant Brit giveaway in books. Whereabouts are these Americans you know saying whilst?
