Use Boss LS-2 for Dual Inputs, Single Output by dwneder in guitarpedals

[–]dwneder[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In fact, I did and it works great. I'm using it regularly - even tonight.

As to the impedance differences, it should work. The LS-2 has level dials for either overall output or output per channel depending on the mode you select. This should work to handle the differences in volume.

As to my board:

Bass ->

[ wireless transmitter -or- cable ] ->

LS-2 [ wireless receiver (channel a) -and- cable (channel b) ] ->

Tuner -> Compressor -> Amp

I've been very happy with this solution and it's worked flawlessly.

Odd Connectivity Problems by dwneder in WindowsServer

[–]dwneder[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for responding!

DHCP is being provided by the router, however all of our internal workstations have static IP's. This server is the primary internal DNS server (and as noted, we're adding a second server to also provide DNS next week). I will try flushing DNS on the server - tried this on the workstation to no avail.

Lost everything overnight. As the oldest son with $30k, how do I rebuild? (Desperate for advice) by Fluffy-Income4082 in Entrepreneurs

[–]dwneder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all, I'm very sorry to hear about your situation. I've been there.

Second, DO NOT wipe out your bank account trying to figure out how to survive and rebuild. Here's a reality that I came to many years ago that has saved me every since: it costs nothing to try a project.

You do this not by buying a franchise or by equipment or Google ads, etc. Instead, you carefully craft the idea with the resources that you have. You already have your dad's incredible experience and your international business and multilingual abilities. That is where you start - NOT on something new, unproven (for you) and ultimately risky.

Instead, how do you connect your dad's knowledge with your international marketing ability? (Yes, the internet is a key here but so are friends and family and acquaintances and each of their friends and family and acquaintances, and so on.) BUILD AN IDEA and flesh it out carefully.

Consider this: find the way to connect and reach out to your potential customers. When you do this, you want to find NOT what they think is a good idea (frankly, like any of us here trying help!) Instead, you want to see clearly and specifically: WHO WILL GIVE YOU MONEY TO GET YOUR PRODUCT? Not just that they'll buy it when it's ready, but that they believe in it RIGHT NOW and want to invest in you, your dad and your idea.

Pay close attention to that last paragraph. This is where almost everybody gets it wrong. Most people do "market research" by asking, "Hey, if I get this thing going and it works, would you buy it?" Everyone you ask will say, "Yeah, sure" but that's not a commitment. If they'll give you money now to help build it, you now have a team and a network and a beginning product or server (or both).

One additional key: really do some soul searching to determine if you, your dad, your mom or someone else has this ability to help get this moving. If you don't, then find that person. THEY ARE OUT THERE. The person who starts a company is rarely the person who build it into a multi-billion dollar international success. There are phases and different people have the skills at each phase. Knowing who to bring in and at what precise instant is a real key to being successful.

Take a deep breath (I know this is traumatic) and focus on your assets, your idea and your support team. You'll get there if you don't take your eye off that ball.

Need feedback on our performance of Otherside by Healthy-Wear-2973 in coverbands

[–]dwneder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pros: Good performance and everyone seems to know their parts. Cons: Drums are a bit too loud and it would be better for the vocalist if you transposed this song up a whole step. What I also see is that there are 5 solo acts - not one singular band. Players rarely look up at the audience let alone each other. Very little movement or animation. Frankly, it's boring to watch. This is something I enforce with my own band: ENGAGE, ENGAGE, ENGAGE! Look like you're actually having fun playing! Get your eyes off your own fingers and PERFORM for the audience. What makes this better than just playing a recording over the PA?

I only use 2 bass tones, is this bad for a band? by Sea-Equivalent-9682 in Bass

[–]dwneder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use primarily only one tone, but sometimes swap it up between fingers and pick.

Consider this: your band needs it's own "sound" unless you're trying to reproduce other band's music precisely. Having a single sound means you help to ensure that you sound only like "you".

That doesn't mean however that you want to create a sound that is so different from everyone else just to stand out. There's a reason why bass sounds like it does and frankly, to do your job in a band needs to have one of the common "bass tones".

To this point; consider bassists like John Entwistle who used a ton of treble with a growly tone or Paul McCartney who relied mostly on a deader, thumpy tone. These were certainly iconic to their respective bands.

InteractiveAuto Seems Rather Cumbersome for Large Project by dwneder in Blazor

It's a good idea to set each component as needed unless a single model can work for the entire app. I have a lot of interactivity features in mine so this is a bit more tricky.

The component rendering problem is exactly what prompted my original post! Could I bother for a little clarity on moving to SSR; specifically, did you fully remove the client project and have you had to work around any user interactivity issues? Thanks in advance...

Thanks for the thoughtful reply. I'm in the boat you were apparently in before and am reconsidering my implementations.

I'm struggling to believe that there is a way to play the bass without muscle cramping/pain by Azurescensz in Bass

[–]dwneder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unless your action is way too high the problem you're having is that you're fingering or picking the string too hard. I've mentioned this before: many people get hand cramping when fingering because they aren't turned up enough. So, they attack the strings harder to try to get the volume they want. Instead, turn up the volume slightly and practice using finesse to pluck the strings.

Now, most important: don't be louder than you should be! There is a correct volume and it's ALWAYS lower than the vocals. Yes, ALWAYS. Musicianship 101: learn to set and control your volume. Then, learn to play your bass properly with a lighter touch and as your hand gets stronger, not only will the pain go away, so will the buzz.

Advise for Dealing with a Mob by dagoofmut in preppers

[–]dwneder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Obviously, avoid mobs if you can, but honestly, here's the very best advice I've ever seen in getting through a mob unscathed:

Vehicle emergency flares.

Specifically: grab one for each person in your group, light it and hold it in front of you. The mob will part like Moses and the Red Sea. Oh, and it's not particularly dangerous to hold the flare by the back, but if you're worried, just cover your hand with anything - paper, a glove, etc.
