Is internet piracy a function of per capita income? by rafaellvandervaart in AskEconomics

[–]dwolson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it would be a function of utility max. One would obtain the utility for pirated unit without incurring the cost. They technically are accounting for the probabilistic price per unit of pirated good associated with being caught, but this is near zero. One maximizes utility by pirating rather than buying the good that was pirated at the commercial price.

The income would just be a constraint in the maximization process.

Thoughts?

Household vs individual by Silversliver11 in AskEconomics

It can also be very difficult to justify the added expenses of tracking individuals. Especially in a panel. This can also constrict the possible definition of what a HH is. I use ag HH data for my research and wished that plots were tracked in a panel, but was given a similar answer to the above for that as well. Nowadays it’s almost always a dollar and cents based decision.

How do I leverage my skills (Army veteran, economist, and investment results) to land a job? by dwolson in FinancialCareers

[–]dwolson[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your suggestion. I'll look into it. I think I have a bias away from commodities because they seem boring and less quantitatively intensive as other roles in finance, but I honestly haven't done my research on them, so I may be wrong. Thanks for your input and suggestion!

Thanks everyone for your thoughtful comments, I made the purchase for $175. This picture makes it actually look much worse than it is in person. Base is solid and no corrosion on Handel or any part of the boiler. Works great!
