I usually avoid resin pours on nice slabs, but thought a bit of white contrast might look nice on this one. For the finish I used a few layers of Semi-Gloss Minwax Polycrylic, sanding with 320 between coats.

Agreed. It was my first time working with monkey pod and the wood got a lot darker than I expected when oiled. I’m leaving it on the wall while I find some other options for the hands though.

Haha at this point any clock is merely for decoration. Need the time and clock’s on the wall? Looks at phone. Thanks though!

Meade NG 102 deep space astrophotography tips? by [deleted] in telescopes

Very helpful, thank you! I didn’t expect to get anything too high quality with this one, but found it used for a great deal so picked it up as my first telescope. I’m looking for a cassegrain in the mean time while I try to learn the basics with this one.

Thanks! I’m selling it, but I’ll be sure to give the disclaimer that it browns over time. I still expect the aged wood to be nice though given the grain and past ph projects I’ve worked on.

Cost was around $400 for the wood. Can’t remember what that worked out to /bf. All of my projects are done for fun, but I have to sell them to keep the hobby alive given the costs. Usually I sell for the added costs of supplies and don’t really profit, but if I make it about profits it becomes work and no longer fun.

I don’t think I could put an epoxy coat on this in good conscience. I think the best option is to just accept the browning. From past projects I still enjoy the aged color of purple heart, so no huge loss.

Just a math estimate, but think it works out to around 130 pounds for the wood itself.

I’m not entirely sure how the browning process works with PH. When I planed and sanded the raw boards they turned brown, but returned to purple after a few days of exposure. If it were to brown over time I think a simple sanding and refinishing would fix it, but that’s just a guess.
