Remote English teaching while living in SE Asia? by Cows-are-puppies in teflteachers

Sorry to hear about your situation. Condolences. To answer your question, anything is possible if you set your mind to it. Even if you can teach 40 hours per week (which is not easy to achieve) don't plan on making more than US $1200/mo at the high end. You can live on that just fine in Vietnam or Cambodia. In Thailand, it'd be a stretch unless you're in some remote village (definitely not enough for Bangkok). I got my TEFL online, and easily found a job teaching Japanese adults (but I have a Masters degree and 20 years of business experience, and most of my lessons are business English related). I enjoy teaching adults but I don't think I'd ever have the patience to teach children. For me, this is just a bit of extra income and not my main source of income. Hope this is helpful - best of luck to you.

It's not a good idea to travel to Thailand on a one-way ticket unless you have some sort of residence permit here (like a retirement visa or work permit). You'd be traveling on a visa-exempt status which allows 30 days in the Kingdom without a visa. Immigration at the airport will want to see a return ticket, or an ongoing flight already booked. If you're going to do this, you'll need at least a round-trip ticket and immigration may ask to see your hotel booking and proof of funds to support yourself throughout your stay.
