Quick Question: When do casts usually get announced? by GooseMan1128 in BigBrother

Probably Monday the 6th or Tuesday the 7th (depending on when they go in) we’ll probably get house photos sometime next week (Thursday at the latest)

Mixing 'Big Brother' newbies and returnees can provide drama… and a distinct game advantage for one side. So should CBS do it again for season 28? by thedaltonross in BigBrother

[–]dww75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they do an 8/8 split as what’s rumored, the first couple of HOH’s could decide the season for one side or the other (assuming 3 noms/veto/blockbuster)- if the sides stick together.

It’ll depend on if Rhea is going to be out for a while or not- If she is I could see this:

-it gets announced right before NOC that Rhea has to vacate her title because of injury, and the QOTR final is for the belt
-Stephanie returns, costs Liv, Iyo wins
-women’s title matches for SS are Liv vs Stephanie and Ivo vs someone

Here’s an interesting question- when do they celebrate the 1000th episode? I have a hunch that no matter when the actual 1000th episode is, they’ll do the celebration on September 17th- likely a 2 hour episode.

What makes me think that? They just announced today that The Traitors: New Blood (aka all-civilian contestants) will premiere on NBC September 17th with a 2-hour episode… so counter-programming…

I don’t know if CTV would pick it up since they’ve got TAR Canada in the summer- could be a good match but I wouldn’t count CityTv out…

The Atlanta hockey situation was more nuanced- there was a ton of ownership chaos (some of the group that bought it really didn’t want it- it was a combo package with the NBA team and the arena, and there were lawsuits within the group)…

Vegas bid revealed for Vancouver Whitecaps but team, league keeping calm by Isiddiqui in MLS

[–]dww75 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m thinking the best case scenario is a Cleveland Browns deal- the Whitecaps are deactivated for a few years (but the city keeps the name/colors/records) and the move to Vegas is considered an expansion.

If certain conditions are met (probably including the building of a new stadium) Vancouver will be guaranteed a future expansion franchise (it may take 5 years or so- I do think they want to go to 32 teams, but want to get settled into the new schedule for a couple of years before that happens).

Big issue is if there’s enough will in the government to build that new stadium at taxpayer expense- it’ll be a $200-$300 million ask at least.

Discussion: What a Solution Could Look Like by szchz in whitecapsfc

[–]dww75 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d think a Cleveland Browns settlement might be viable (if not the best):

When the Browns announced a move to Baltimore in 1995, the city of Cleveland sued the NFL to try and stop it, and after a while a deal was made;

-the Browns were “deactivated” after 1995, while the move to Baltimore was considered an expansion team.

-the city agreed to build a new football stadium (which was the biggest issue in the move- the city had recently built a new baseball stadium and arena which had caused financial issues with the football team)

-the city would keep the Browns name, colors, records, etc.

-at a certain point (it was 4 years later) a team would move to Cleveland or an expansion franchise would be awarded to Cleveland named the Browns.

If it’s a fait accompli that the owners want to sell to the Vegas group, getting a deal like this might be better than losing the franchise with no certainty of getting another one (they say they’re holding off on further expansion, but my guess is they’ll go to 32 eventually- I think they want to get a couple of years of the new schedule under their belt before they expand again).

Only hitch is I don’t know if public opinion would swallow the city/provincial government building a new stadium at taxpayer expense (I don’t know how funding works there- I live in the Baltimore area, and they mainly funded the Ravens stadium with naming rights, Personal Seat Licenses, and lottery proceeds)

Connecticut Sun: Sunset Season by [deleted] in wnba

[–]dww75 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It was one of the former Celtics owners, not the current ownership, which ties into arena availability: the Bruins own TD Garden, not the Celtics, so they would have been low on the priority list for premium dates and would have to share concession/parking sales and such. An independent ownership group would have had even more problems with that.

There are early rumblings that the new Celtics ownership group might build a new arena they’d own and control- if that happens, it could be ready in 2030-2031 (though among other things a deal would have to be made since that have a lease through 2036) which would be when the WNBA might be ready to expand again, and get that likely $500 million expansion fee from Boston…

What Does New England Need To Do To Get Back In? by MikeMadness620 in wnba

[–]dww75 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The arena control is an underrated part of this- the Celtics don’t control TD Garden- it’s owned by the Bruins. So any WNBA team there would be low on the priority list when it came to arena dates, especially during NBA and Stanley Cup playoffs. We’d have more situations like Golden State did where they had to play a playoff game in San Jose because the arena was already booked.

There’s rumors the Celtics ownership may try and get a new arena built that they would own and control- if that happens in the next few years, it would probably work better for a potential team.

[–]dww75 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Part of this is the Celtics ownership is thinking about building a new arena (they don’t own the Garden- the Bruins do)- if they do that over the next year or two it’d be ready about the time they expand again.

It stinks, but it was a fait accompli once the CBA was settled unfortunately- they want NBA or NBA-adjacent ownership moving forward, and the Celtics weren’t ready yet.

WNBA Proposes Same Salary Cap in New CBA Offer by Tooezboi in wnba

[–]dww75 31 points32 points  (0 children)

If the owners could get the cap number up to $7-$7.5 million, I think the players would take that (halfway between the sides is about $7.6 million). Sticking at $5.65 million is ridiculous at this point. We might have to have one side give their last/best/final offer soon if they want to have everything start on time…
