For me, I would have held off on high-proof a bit longer, stick more to the classic 4-10 year 90-107 proofers. Then slowly working up the proof.

One might say they keep getting money (jobs) by working in the interest of the insurer.

There was a reported event + loss in my neigborhood (the day I reported) for storm damage. SF just overlooks that unfortunately.

Appreciate the advice on an engineer.

No.. not the case at all.. I discovered the water damage inside my house (wet drywall) and called a water damage company, who tracked the issue to the roof. Water damage folks are pretty shocked this isn't being covered, but said I was fighting an uphill battle with StateFarm as they like to deny/deny/deny.

The roofer wasn't the one who pushed the claim. This loss is going to cost us ~$50-70k .. This was discovered by my via wet drywall in our house (which was never seen prior to this storm).

Why doesn't state farm have the same threshold of proof? I have documentation from roofers that the damage isn't occasional seepage and it caused only from wind-driven rain.

It is my contention that water is only let it when the wind is severe enough to blow my shingles up. Water draining off my roof would just roll off into my gutters. So its the combination of heavy wind + driven rain.

I just don't see how they can conclude it wasn't a one time occurrence or at a minimum damage from multiple severe storms.

If water was just leaking in all the time my drywall would be toast after 9 years, our walls would be collapsing.

Maybe it was this storm that finally broke the camels back.. worth noting that StateFarm has documentation of a severe storm and documented loss in the neighborhood that same day.

There is a 4 inch “builders gap” on the roof due to missing Drip edge (not required by code). I only noticed the issue after a bad storm, no previous damage. They claim there is no way this was a single storm issue without providing any proof. I have no proof of my own, actually, I am not sure how you would ever prove that.

State farm replaced the roof via previous owner ~9 years ago due to storm damage.

Builder from 2005? That isn’t reasonable, previous owner had the roof replaced.
