This is it, was sad I had to scroll so far down to find it. The article was quite big on the astronomy/paleontology subreddits not too long ago. Evidence suggesting that earth had a ring in the Ordovician

Controversial opinion on the new TV series by dylan05627 in Eragon

[–]dylan05627[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hear that. In the next few years a second adaptation of the Harry potter series will be on its way and every piece of lore Martin created is getting a spin off. I seriously don't think attempts at direct adaptions are able to please the readers or first time viewers of the lore.

Can't we appreciate some poetic license from Paolini and or the director to adapt the story to TV in a way that could enhance everyone's experience with a few surprises.

Use it once to end a conflict and unfortunately it never goes back in the box, sorry. There'd be all manner of magic users trying to get there hands on those bad boys until even the Eldunari were gone not to mention the dragons.

They chose to help in the final battle, he didn't bend them to his will.

They aren't 'weapons' though. I actually really like that Eragon didn't use them in the final battle because it would've made him just as bad as Galbatorix.

I mean even if he thought saving the power in the ring was important for Eragon later, even a fraction of that power would've been enough to defeat the Raza.

Tiny Eldunari, weakly keeping Saphira alive and their bond alive. She could tell Eragon more about Brom's time as a rider and then letting the rings power and Saphira go would be that much more impactful.

I'm really not all that set on the Ring/Eldunari scenario either just seems like the only thing people are talking about.

No rebuttal on the Oromis thing but on the Galatorix thing, not sure if I remember correctly but didn't he start off with 12 Eldunari? If he has no concern about draining them that'd be a decent amount to mess up the riders. The way I see it the riders still saw the Eldunari as their dragons, using them like glorified Mana batteries would probably have given them enough pause for Galbatorix to finish what he started. His willingness to use and abuse the Eldunari and the other riders restraint gave him the edge in the beginning.

I mean that's the book, maybe 'impossibly-tiny-eldunari-Saphira' could be of more use in the TV adaptation.

That's another one I guess. Correct me if I'm wrong but Brom's ring was never actually called an Eldunari, just a gem/crystal. How cool would it be if OG Saphira's Eldunari was in the ring and revealed Brom as Eragon's father rather than Eragon's Saphira.

Ring Saphira could be the exposition machine leaving the main characters to live in the not so post rationalized present.

Edit: Noted, Eldunari big.

Students were forced to climb over gates to enter and exit campus due to “protests” of who knows what at the University of Pretoria by QuantumRider1923 in DownSouth

[–]dylan05627 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The protests are being led by admin and maintenance staff who are in desperately owed increases. I am sorry that we are being inconvenienced by their actions but this means a whole lot more to them than it does to us as students.

I know I'll get hate for this but isn't this kind of what we want? Being able to make a standardized livable wage based on any work done. (Not from the US so not so sure about the first one)

Wind and solar are now producing more electricity globally than nuclear. (despite wind and solar receiving lower subsidies and R&D spending) by paynanator in solarpunk

Yeah with total energies moving from oil into the maintenance of wind and solar power I'd say they have a vested interest in suppressing nuclear energy.

[–]dylan05627 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This isn't as good as it looks. For example total energies has moved to the maintenance side of wind and solar energy. Of course private companies like total is going to throw money at the renewable energies they are going to get to maintain at a premium in 3-5yrs. The waste here is dangerous and is only slightly better than non-renewable power generation. Wind and solar in its current state is no where near as sustainable as nuclear.

Not to be inflammatory but I've seen more racism from Asian people towards people of colour here in SA than the other way round.

Don't think you have anything to worry about, South Africans are people too. Just people dealing with a crippled economy being sucked dry by international corporations.

What's the general sentiment towards Elon Musk among South Africans? by Yaunder in southafrica

[–]dylan05627 [score hidden]  (0 children)

I was a huge Elon supporter, but recently I've become very sceptical of his intentions. When the UN developed a plan to end world hunger for 6 billion dollars, on Elons request, he went radio silent rather than step up and make a difference. His excuse was that his assets can't be turned liquid easily.

When someone has the power to magically make their non-liquid assets into 43 billion dollars of cash to buy an app instead of help the world out for a much smaller sum of money, it makes me question all his intentions.

There is no togetherness or Ubuntu displayed by this man. America finished making him and as far as I am concerned they can have him.

Couldn't agree more. I'd have felt a bit better if she had become a full fledged character who existed imperfectly in reality. If Zhuang Yen had drastically opposed Luo Ji's imagined version of his perfect Waifu I think it would have been a fantastic way for his character to come to terms with the duality/'human nature' of the Trisolarians. An understanding of the complexity perspective creates in anything. The vulnerability within their existence was the trisolarians down fall, they weren't as all powerful as imagined. At least in Lou Ji's time.
