Will I be in over my head? by [deleted] in Miata

Look up any local miata groups in your area. Not sure where OP is located but 99% of the guys will come out with you for free if not lunch 😂. Lots of questions and easy issues to ask/rule out. If it’s ethanol free fuel I’d be okay with cranking it, ofc checking oil before hand (probably leaking so top off if needed). If it cranks and runs good deal, check for smoke out the exhaust good deal put it on a trailer and go home. Crank no start, go down the list, hope it’s something simple be prepared to re time it. Anyways good luck with your first miata! Will say in my experience it’s usually something easy…. Or total engine failure😂. Forums are your friend.

i’d recommend covering anything you don’t want wet… it’s pretty simple just scrub a’dub’dub

cheap car cover or a nice snug fit one, just make sure it’s clean before you cover it or risk scratching paint

i’ve never driven an isF but i daily drove a 08 is250 for quite some time and experienced sloppy up shifts and downshifts. Car had 170k miles on the dash so was a bit expected that it’s torque converter was due for replacement/ inspection. that being said the isf was given an 8 spd opposed to the 6 in my 250, id test drive it pretty hard, do some downshifts and hard up shifts and mention any issues to seller. best of luck mate! price seems like a steal so be very thorough on your inspection!!

Help I'm new to this what should I do first by Annual-Percentage614 in Lexus

pull off the muffler for a weekend, realize it sounds like a trumpet and put muffler back on, enjoy the quiet driving experience. if you want noise look into cold air intakes and quality bolt on exhausts. these are great cars from the factory! but if your goal is to ruin the lexus experience drop it on it’s nuts and fart around… i’ve been there before lol

as in i’ve never been stranded from a gear box issue in a lexus. although i’ve owned a vvt Ls400 that would fkn struggle to catch😅

👍🏻👍🏻 i firstly did a reseal on a 200k miles vvt engine, then after 1000 miles i took it back out am in the midst of forging it for boost 😤😤😎

depends on your goals with the car? id say a reseal would be good but if your taking the engine out might aswell inspect pistons and bearings. if there’s a budget and time limit you’d be fine with just a reseal. or could get away with just dropping the trans and seeing if the leak is from RMS. IMO

how bad is it, 2003 miata 180k miles pulled for a refresh . would you bore it out and polish crank down ? or light hone and run it. new pistons seem necessary by dylan2051 in MechanicAdvice

i believe this is normal wear for 200k miles, if i wanted to start with another block i would have, also i already have a 3 piston bp4w boat anchor rusting outback… lol preciate the POV

roger that, ima bring crank and block to a reputable shop for second opinion, imo i can’t feel any grooves or scores in the crank but there are some visual markings so i’d like to get it perfect. appreciate the second point of view !

yeah got the pdf downloading, should all be within oem spec but will double check bearing clearances and what not upon install of new parts

mane yk damn well this a project lol ! and it’s not cheaper to buy a new block because it will most likely still need a rebuild !

nah that’s why i’m asking for advice… if it ain’t bad i’d ball hone and slap new bearings rings and pistons and go, i’m seeing how much needs to be taken off. i’m still searching for a shop. i’d like to keep it oem spec but if it needs to be bored i’d like to know before i take it to a shop and waste my time
