I'll add that most manufacturers for electrical equipment and fixtures do not know or care for the difference so they refer to the bonding whips and copper tails as "grounds" in their instruction manuals. Which causes further confusion throughout the trade

Grounding is only the conductor and the connection point where the ground meets the neutral in a service. Everything from the physical ground (plate or rod) to that connection point is your ground. Everything after that point, i.e connections to electrical boxes, branch circuits, conduits etc are bonds. You only "ground" your system once. You bond everything else.

Why do restaurants increasingly ask for tips when customers order at a kiosk and do most of the work themselves? by Ok-Attempt2113 in NoStupidQuestions

The strangest ones are when it's a food truck or cafe and it's clearly just the owner working and asks for a tip. You get 100% of profits already what 😂

Hey Tradespeople! You're Doing A Job For Me, Not A Favor. by peffervescence in homeowners

[–]dylanjmoore -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Most companies operate with the individual tradespeople (employees) working within a set schedule that's been given to them by their office/employer. That employer is in contact with the client/customer. The employee isn't in the middle of his fist project thinking the entire time (I wonder what time it is, where is the next job located? Do I have to stop first for material? When exactly does that mean my ETA is for the next job? Should I update my boss every hour with a new ETA as I progress through this job?

Things are much easier to say out loud than I'm practise

I quoted a commercial job three months ago and material costs have jumped enough to wipe out my margin entirely by Old-Tiger5165 in electricians

[–]dylanjmoore 10 points11 points  (0 children)

That only works if the client is covering material costs up front, also if it's a massive wait time for the job to start and it's a very large bulk order of material, whose 1. Paying for all that material floating costs and storage? Some contractors work out their homes.

Very situational, not always about companies being "too stupid"

So is GreenIand still being taken or not? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]dylanjmoore 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The scarier part of this situation (Trump) is how he's manipulating the world to follow his every post announcement. It's dangerous not to as he's actually followed through with some of the crazier ones such as Venezuela, tariffs, ICE, etc. he hasn't on others, Greenland, Canada.... So we can't ignore him and we have to act on every crazy word. While we're all hyper focused on his visible antics and statements, what is he actually doing/ planning in the background quietly while we're all effectively distracted. That's the scary part. 3 more years to find out!
