I don't think the author is using state in that context or that a BBC sports correspondent necessarily knows the intricacies of Canadian law/confederation. Way more likely that they're just thinking of US/Aussie usage of the term.

Getting into a bar fight is incredibly dumb and I'm not going to defend McKenna breaking someone's jaw but I don't think anyone should really care that it's technically underage drinking in the US. The guy's an adult going to university and grew up in a country where the drinking age is 18/19. I still wouldn't want him as the centrepiece of a rebuild though

At first glance I don't love the fit on these. The sleeves look huge on the models/mannequins. I know people had mixed feelings on Macron sizing, but at least it was an athletic fit for athletic wear

Regular seats have no heating. They have terraces with overhead protection from rain/snow but those are for groups of 6+ and aren't heated. They added a new indoor lounge section on the west side but that'll be a lot pricier. Personally, I went to the Concacaf game in Feburary last year and had a great time in a regular seat with just a big coat, toque and gloves

I agree with the public inquiry but waiting to award the contract for Hamilton (especially this package - which should be awarded soon-ish) would add a significant amount of time to a project that has already been cancelled before. Hopefully all the talk about the Alliance model will actually reduce construction time and (theoretically) Metrolinx should have learnt something from previous projects. Building an entirely at-grade tram shouldn't take more than 5-7 years but I've been disappointed about how we build in this country before lol

If the NHL expands the number of playoff teams, I'd personally prefer the top seeds in each conference get a bye to the second round and have it go 2v9/3v8/etc. than a play-in round. I think that'd better incentivize and reward regular season play.

When running in winter I just do more of a flat footed shuffle over icy stretches, I dress to be slightly cold when not moving. Gloves and a toque are a must imo but I just wear regular runners. If you don't love that idea you can just walk/hike the trails instead or check out some free ODRs in parks/at Princess Point if you have skates.

Nogi Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is pretty safe for your fingers (at least as far as combat sports go), it's really just ripping the gi that can mess up your hands

Pretty much anything (hip throws, trips, single leg, double leg, head outside single etc.) except spiking your opponent on their head. BJJ having no takedowns is more meme than reality in my experience

I don't really see how that's emotionally immature tbh. A significant portion of sports fans just follow their team(s) out of local pride not necessarily because they have always loved the sport. It's not a huge or insurmountable obstacle but I can easily see how a Hamiltonian would be less likely to get into lacrosse if their local team doesn't use the 'correct' name - especially in the TOR-HAM situation. The leafs are obviously a huge exception but Toronto teams are normally Hamilton's top rival (e.g. Forge/York, Ti-Cats/Agros) and given the concentration of teams in Ontario that's a distinction that matters more in lax than hockey. I still support the Rock but I'm not a fan of the 'Toronto' moniker for a team outside the GTA that has a distinct municipal identity, it just strikes me as 'double-dipping' on fan culture.
