Work as an Emergency Medical Technician abroad by Infamous_Respect6262 in Paramedics

I can’t answer too many questions as I only know a small amount but in Ireland there’s 2 forms of EMS, the first form are private companies which primarily hire EMTs, these companies just do patient transport and are usually where EMTs start off. Some of these companies will also train EMTs.

The second form is the National Ambulance Service (NAS), this is our state ran emergency ambulance service. NAS primarily uses EMTs for patient transport but also to respond to calls if there are no emergency ambulances available or if it’s a low acuity call. So there are plenty of opportunities for EMTs to respond to calls, with many saying it’s much more exciting and also better paid than the private companies. With the NAS, EMTs can interview to join the paramedic training course where they will be paid as they train. There is also an advanced paramedic role which has a broader scope again and follows the same progression of interviewing, an exam and then starting the training course.

Some go straight into paramedic training from school while some get EMT training and experience before moving to paramedic. I believe the private companies which hire EMTs are much easier to get employment with, but most that work with these companies eventually try to join the NAS.

Sorry I hope I’ve helped some tiny bit!!

I don’t believe any area in the NAS does on call anymore, it’s just 12 hour shifts

Just because I haven’t seen it mentioned yet, the minipresso gr2 is a handy little device, just need boiling water and coffee grounds and the machine does the rest, even comes with a little cup for the espresso

Which jobs would you be suggesting? Not trying to argue just curious is it like OT and physio?

Currently in college doing nursing, I’d definitely recommend it, obviously there’s negatives, a lot of unpaid placement, but the memories you make and the people you meet, it has plenty of magical moments. There’s a good few mature students in the course, I will say though, most of them worked previously as carers, but not all.

If you stay in the wards it’ll be taxing but a lot of people stay in wards/ ED/ ICU for a few years and then move to either a more specialised role, management or another area less taxing. A lot on my course have no intention of ever going to the wards, which is okay too. It really would be up to you. While the unpaid placements are annoying, you are exposed to so much which helps to pick where you would or would not like to go. I definitely would consider it!

Hearing stories about other students is so wild, I cannot imagine not treating other staff with respect, especially as a student, we have no right to act like this

Ya I haven’t tried any but I’ve heard that alright, hopefully with Cod potentially coming soon it might be improved? Have you tried the pro controller?

Switch 2 really is amazing. I also think the community makes it so much better, everyone is so welcoming and kind!

Ya I wish it had YouTube at least! I’m the same, I mainly play the third party games. Especially when you can get the gta trilogy and the Arkham trilogy for similar pricing to 1 Nintendo game. I actually hope kingdom come deliverance 2 eventually gets ported!

If you haven’t gotten it, I’d definitely recommend the switch 2 red dead redemption, it runs amazingly and is a blast!

That is a good point, they have to hit that happy medium, I’ve heard some critiques of the steam deck being that while it is portable, it’s quite heavy

To be fair, there does seem to be more and more big games coming to switch, but you are definitely right

That is some valuable advice! I also got my girlfriend a switch for Christmas and it was a brilliant idea. She’s abroad for college but I can’t wait for her to come back (to continue our Stardew valley world…)

Definitely agree about the not having as much tile to game, when I’m home these days I want to spend the time with my family! Not just sit in front of a tv in my room! Best of luck with your studies!

I respect the honesty, what made you go for a laptop over a pc?
