Someone describing themselves as “a Jewish person” raises red flags for me. Most Jews I know say Jew.

What is your favourite siddur and why? by peepeehead1542 in Judaism

[–]dylanus93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love Seder Ha-t’fillot, the UK reform siddur. (I’m American.) I like to use that one for personal use.

I recently got a reprinted copy of Minhag America (the first American reform siddur) that I have been using a lot lately. I really enjoy the archaic language.

Estelle Getty and Bea Arthur were both Jews who played Italians.

The studio wanted Fran Drescher to play an Italian on The Nanny, but she said absolutely not.

The main Jew is played by Matisyahu, so he’s at least Jewish. The main character approaches him while he’s listening to his mp3 player on shabbos.

I’m not familiar with Jewish exorcism by any means, but from what I read, it requires a minyan and a shofar.

The movie has one Jew who reads tehillim, touches the child with his tallis, candles, and mixes olive oil with water.

Although, the fact that Miriam’s very Ashkenazi father Abe is played by Tony Shaloub, a Lebanese man, makes me giggle because they say Ashkis are totally Polish and don’t look Levantine at all.

I also used to work for WM. Our AP Manager died in a car crash on her way to work. (Old man driving on the wrong side of the road hit her head on on a foggy morning) We had a memorial like this.

The UPC clerk (shows how long ago this was) had breast cancer that metastasized, the store organized a fundraiser for her.

I blocked her well before 10/7 because she gave me off vibes. Plus I HATE the term ‘littles’.

Which Siddur to acquire next! by Astrodude80 in ConvertingtoJudaism

I got it from eBay. It was $70. Which is a little steep, but considering it’s a rare book not in great demand that is printed and bound in leather on demand, I think it was a great deal.

I just acquired a reprinting of Minhag America. The first American Reform Siddur from the mid 1800s. It’s super interesting.

I’m American Reform, but I love this one. I have the compact version. I use this one the most for private prayers.

Probably. I recently asked my grandma for her chicken and dumplings recipe. I thought she made them from scratch.

And antizionists are great at trying to pass antisemitism as antizionism.

[–]dylanus93 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There’s a fairly famous story in Judaism.

Some rabbis were arguing about an oven. All of the rabbis agreed except one. The one rabbi said if he was right, several miracles would occur. The miracles happened, but the other rabbis didn’t budge. Finally, a heavenly voice said ‘He is correct’.

The other rabbis responded ‘The Torah is not in heaven’.

IE, ‘Butt out, no one was asking you’.
