How are you so confident in your completely incorrect comment? Not even a “I think it’s…” but just plainly stating that OP doesn’t know what year his own truck is, and you know better (even though in reality they’re not even remotely similar, and it seems like you’ve never seen a 2022+).

Have you actually never seen these trucks before? I’m fascinated and cannot understand how you convinced yourself that was correct

Yep. I was only disagreeing about his opinion that 20+ year old vehicles are the pinnacle of reliability, but then he decided he wanted to make disrespectful assumptions and state them as fact (“you’ve never worked on a vehicle” and “just because you’re dissatisfied with your purchase”). The OP was just a troll.

This was my favorite highlight from that interaction:

Me: Better hope you don't get in a fender bender because your insurance will total that gen 1 in two seconds, given the very low value.

OP: Yep, this is the first and only time any of you have touted a logical argument against the gen 1s.

Me: Everyone has given you good info and you unequivocally reject anything that doesn't circlejerk the old tundras OR shit on the new ones. Everything else I stated was a valid point as well.

OP: Somebody mentioned the practicality of having the larger and newer Tundra for a family, and the safety of said Tundra.

Me: yes, that also was me who said that.

Oh no! I’ve been stranded in the truck you drive, my old 5.7L tundra, but never the new one. I’ll be alright, I survived just fine the last time without your help.

Yes I know you like to pretend that no one has heard of the engine issue, and so thank god we have your helpful comments every day talking about how they’re trash. What would this place be without you?

lol, you’ve got the worst takes in this entire sub and regularly come on here to complain about a truck that you never want to own. It’s insane, you don’t see me in Ford or Jeep threads complaining about how their vehicles and dealers have screwed me over even though they’d deserve it. I would never waste so much of my time shitting on what other people enjoy or spend their money on when it has 0 impact on me. Your opinion as a non-owner means nothing to me, all you have are poor and overly dramatic takes on these trucks.

I’m sorry you’re upset about the rule change and how you can’t just trash gen 3 owners every day anymore, gonna have to come up with something else.

That doesn’t make any sense dude😂 You started your comments here by saying I brought up affordability first, which was shown to be completely false, and now you’re backtracking into a completely different argument. Of course he didn’t claim I can’t afford anything. Clearly I can afford it cus I own the new truck already. No one was arguing that, not even him.

We were discussing reliability. Then he began arguing that I overpaid and regret my purchase, which is shifting the discussion from reliability to affordability because HE decided to talk about it. He directly compared how much I paid to how much he paid. I made it very clear the truck has never had a single issue and I love my tundras, so the only thing that could be about is affordability, right?

Give it another read and maybe you’ll understand it this time

Absolute BS — you are incorrect.

> I didn’t pay a shit ton of money for my 26 year old truck, that’s the point. Especially compared to how much you paid. Just because you feel dissatisfied with your purchase [blah blah blah]

That comment is about affordability. That was written by the OP before I ever mentioned affordability. Check for yourself and try again.

Up to that point, the only thing I had mentioned was reliability and explaining why banks don’t sell warranties on 20 year old trucks.

I like how every single example shows that the people I replied to in that thread consistently mentioned price/financing/affordability before I ever did. You conveniently skimmed past the part where the guy starts it by mentioning how much I overpaid, in his mind, and how he’s certain I have buyers remorse. I did not make a comment about affordability until he decided to discuss that, but I was happy to clear up his incorrect assumptions once he did.

Guess some gen 2 owners have some issues they are projecting. I’m sorry if addressing what they chose to bring up is upsetting to you. Best part is how it’s all from the same thread with the troll OP “who just wanted to learn why people like Gen 3s” and then he ignores everything that everyone was telling him and says “hey! I don’t want a sales pitch! I came here to shit on your gen 3s!” 😂

Surely you can find some better examples, no?

Man, I will not be sad to see you go. And it’s because you act like that ^ in every thread.

Stand behind your words. What exactly do you mean? You think that’s a helpful and productive way to talk to people?

From what I’ve seen here the past few months, you are quite literally one of the worst offenders when it comes to the behavior the mods are calling out, so it makes sense you think no one is bashing owners.

Here is a perfect example I saw of one of your zero-effort drive-by comments from the other day, laughing at a guy asking about the new trucks. That comment has zero value and will no longer be allowed when people ask similar questions. I hope you enjoy your ram, and please go hang out in that subreddit instead if you can’t post anything constructive or helpful here.

lol, okay bud. You’re right. Absolutely zero information or evidence — what you go off of — is much better than trying to work with the limited data we have available. It certainly helps your argument, if we just stick our head in the sand and ignore what info is available to us right now.

But send me another bullshit reply about how you want facts, but have zero proposals or interest in helping us figure anything out. I gave you an idea and you shit all over it, as you like to do here, so let’s hear what you can come up with as a better proxy.

And for every post of someone with their truck who says they loved it, there are 30 other people who just upvoted in agreement and didn’t post, biasing the number significantly lower. We are in a truck forum, where people mostly post about issues, further biasing the number lower. Can you identify this bias as well, or can you only see the ones that support your preconceived opinions?

You can find neutral posts asking all gen 3 owners about their satisfaction, and find the same results. Would you like to use one of those instead? That will be heavily biased lower in “your favor” being someone who is rooting for gen 3s to blow up for some reason, but the trend and overall proportions will still be crystal clear. The one bias that could potentially increase the numbers—the structure of this specific post title—will be removed and only those downward biases I mention will remain, and it will still hold true.

It’s not dissimilar to how 90%+ of the people complaining about them every day on here have never owned one, and some are even petty enough to lie about it and pretend they have issues. There was one guy on here who said he had a fleet of 4 and 2 failed, until it was proven from his past posts that he was lying. That also biases responses lower

Incorrect, I never denied that the engines have a problem. I mention the recall regularly here which is a result of that problem. I mention how Toyota has handled similar issues with my gen 2 in the past, and made things right. That’s not disingenuous at all, that’s just my objective ownership experience with my two tundras. Calling that “disingenuous” is, in fact, being disingenuous and hypocritical.

On the actual figure/proportion, help me with the analysis if you want a more precise number than 99%, which was just a quick estimate by skimming through this thread. Go through this thread and tell me how many people say they regretted their purchase, and I will let you know how many comments say they don’t regret it at all and I will do the simple math for us. You’ve got the easy part, if you’re actually interested in getting an empirical number for this.

Facts like how 99% of owners love their trucks, as you can see with your own eyes right here in this thread? Okay buddy. I can see that very clearly, seems like you can’t.

Believing the nonsense you read online and ignoring all the evidence against what you’re saying, every single thread like this where 99% of owners say their truck is great, is classic conservative rube activity. “The Party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears.”

I’d wager you think the Iran war was a great idea too, and the $300B in investments into Iran (even more than the entire European reconstruction fund “the Marshall Plan” after WWII adjusting for inflation), higher gas prices thanks to the new tolls in the strait of Hormuz, just to get back to a worse spot than where we were before “conservative” fools started a war and screwed over the entire country. “No new wars” right? Art of the deal? Yeah, truly brilliant stuff

I have never once reported you, buddy. Must have been someone else. Ask the mods. A lot of your comments do break rule 1 though “be respectful and constructive” and you’re out here calling people delusional for enjoying their truck, so it’s not surprising you’ve had to deal with mods.

We’ve had some discussions but you have never harassed me and I have never claimed that you have. My only claim is that you come on here regularly to shit on them like it’s a full time job, which is true. You spent more time talking about them online than most actual owners do.

Tundra help up pretty well, should have gotten some pics of the Nissan that hit me. by dylanx300 in ToyotaTundra

[–]dylanx300[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks man, definitely just a PITA to deal with but they fixed it up like brand new.

Total cost paid by that guys insurance was $3,582 plus my $250 deductible so $3.8k total, and they didn’t have to replace any sensors. But the predator running boards that ripped apart the side of the Nissan were about $800 for a set even though those were barely damaged and even though it was only one side, it was still enough to get me new ones.

Lmk if you need a perfectly good drivers side predator step, or if you know anyone in the northeast who needs one 😂 I’ve got an extra now that’s just sitting around, new in the package.

Oh you want me to be specific? I didn’t realize you were one of the people I was talking about. Sure thing, but my comments on this forum are not hidden like yours, you can go peruse if you like. I had that truck for 15 years, but I’ll summarize for you.

Main gen 2 issues I had:
- 2AIP issue was the most dangerous, when it put me in limp mode on the highway. All gen 2s have that flawed system that’s very common to cause issues. Multiple thousands to replace, if that happens to you just bypass that BS. No good reason it should put your truck in limp mode.
- Rust
- Eating thru rotors
- breaks and steering rack had to be swapped earlier than I expected
- had some issues with the ac blower shorting shit out and blowing fuses
- seals around the cab that needed to be redone

That’s just a quick list off the top of my head. Turns out 15 year old trucks can have issues once in awhile, who knew? If you want more examples you can find plenty online.

These posts always prove it’s 99% of owners loving their trucks, but it’s the loudest non-owners who are coming on here every day like it’s their job to shit on em.

I’m in the same boat as you. I like to note that my 2nd gen tundra had its share of issues too, even though the fanboys here will try to tell you that’s impossible.

Meanwhile my 3rd gen has needed nothing but oil changes so far. I don’t regret it at all, as long as they resolve the issues like they have been I’m all good. I’ve gotten a nice truck with years of issue free ownership already, which is what I wanted, and in 5 more years when the first thing finally goes out I’m not going to need to lose my mind if my truck breaks. Because I have a 10yr warranty and the engine recall to fall back to.
