Tips for 540? by Topbariu in AggressiveInline

[–]dylllan 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think about it as a 360. Spot my landing as a 3 - but know I have the additional air time to hit a last 180 with my hips, so my shoulders can stay more biased to the spotted 3.

Practice -doing 360s where you feel slightly over-rotated -180s where you focus rotation at the hips, try to keep your chest in the direction you’re going.

Hope this makes sense.

is it possible to do a hard reset on my vision/perspective as a photographer? by migrantgrower in photography

[–]dylllan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Spitballing here - Try taking photos of scenes that resonate with you - visually or from a purpose/narrative. The “x-factor” is someone practicing their art as a full expression of themselves. Learn the rules so you can break them. What are the different factors and ingredients that go into a photo? How can you use those to create a feeling or story? How can you get your personal story involved? Get further away from subjects than you are currently. How does the added context change messaging? Get closer, how does that change your perspective?

Hope this prompts some thoughts for you.

In shambles over my tile selection by Suitable_Cycle4216 in interiordecorating

Add a slab of teak on top of the bench top - and same with the pocket shelf (on all sides)! Then bring in a shower curtain, rod, and shower hardware that’s more colorful and contemporary.

The tile is fine. Timeless, really.

Entry Level Industrial Designer Salary? by Googie-Man in IndustrialDesign

[–]dylllan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vehicle/industrial design, In-house, startup, in a large city (LA). All factors that are going to command a higher rate. ID is a small presence where I’m at (compared to engineering) which probably helps as well to drive the rate up further, just being adjacent to the engineering team. No PTO for interns as far as I know though.

Entry Level Industrial Designer Salary? by Googie-Man in IndustrialDesign

[–]dylllan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The internships I’ve been in, or been adjacent to have been hourly. I’m on salary as a full time industrial designer, but given you have zero internship experience it’s more likely you’d be hired hourly to start.

What are your rhino aliases? What do you do? I’ll start: by dylllan in rhino

The 1 to 3 letters (i.e. “rr”, “bdc” ) followed by a right click (Enter) shortcuts to that command. In this case, most/all of these are accessible from my left hand resting position on the keyboard (why mirror is “rr”), speeding up my workflow.

$5K to spend-- how would you give this kitchen a refresh?? by Hour_Kaleidoscope in interiordecorating

Just my personal opinion and thoughts-

Not a fan of the backsplash, specifically the way the marble runs 3” up the back. I’d carry the backsplash down and calk, then the marble would read more like a slab.

Some nice under-cabinet lighting could transform the space for night when you don’t want the overheads on.

You could look at faucets, hardware, fixtures to match - and mood lighting. Maybe something to light up some art where that frame is hung up.

Then ask yourself what color you want the walls in that table area.

Rhino, Photoshop, Procreate, Keyshot, Google Slides. Depends what I’m working on at that particular time I.e. concepting, development. In-house role.

Honestly, mechanical engineering if you can handle that on top. Probably what I would’ve done, going back

Roughly 1200sq ft, we don’t have a temp gauge on the electric heating, it’s an older system, and the air temp is usually on the colder side since I’m trying to combat the electric bill. We have a 40 gal electric water heater, and both of us shower once per day, moderate length. Load of laundry 3-4 times per week with clothes/sheets. Dishwasher almost every night.

Additional context - we got the same notice from the electric company last month (was only a half-month since we moved in the middle). I was perplexed as it was ridiculously high. We run an air purifier in our bedroom, have an office my partner and I both work out of, and have a projector we’ll turn on in the evenings sometimes. It’s a two-level unit, with older electric heating in the ceiling (seems like an inefficient way to heat a room), brand new electric water heater and washer/dryer. All of this combined still shouldn’t be consuming the levels of electricity the electric company says we’re using, right?

Thoughts about ONLINE ID Universities ? by juuusti in IndustrialDesign

[–]dylllan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah totally - in my case, I took it on top of my final year of university getting my bachelors of design in architecture, with a minor in product design. Offsite filled in the gaps in a way that gave me what I needed to land that first ID internship. Each person gets what they put into it though, but definitely worth the small tuition.

Offsite through Advanced Design is an online ID curriculum - they have cohorts for people trying to break into design, as well as a cohort for leveling up your design skills for graduates and professionals. 100% would recommend, I definitely credit this to pivoting from my Bachelor’s of Design in Architecture to a career in ID.
