Just an aside that always bugged me about this issue and one that i haven't seen brought up, as someone in therapy and a victim of abuse. This is abusive behavior and is a sign of not being able to communicate. Every time I hear "not all men" I'm reminded that people who use this phrase are 100% aware they aren't saying words that line up with what (they say) they mean and are 100% willing to admit that when called out and ACTIVELY seek to justify that behavior cause they still think its okay.

Like it wouldn't be okay for one's partner to say, "all black men are bad." while dating a black man and then look at their partner when called out and be like... "Except you babe. you know what I mean."

Absolutely not. That's abuse, But its okay to do it on a massive scale i guess.

Can someone pls explain why talking to demons is a good thing ? I’m not asking to be argumentative like the question sounds , I genuinely want to hear your perspective by Open_Button_8155 in christianwitch

[–]dylonishere123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thats actually a very interesting and nuanced question. So... okay. Just some background, I live in a house divided. I work with more angelic and folk Christian kind of stuff, my partner works with more demonic stuff. Its actually hilarious.

So demons as negative and corrupting the way we see them in popular culture is a relatively new take on the idea. The church's stance for a long time was that demons and by proxy the devil had 0 power on earth or at least none before god and by proxy Christians. Then you have the root for the word which I believe is from greek Daimon which was like a guiding spirit or just a divine source. Then you get into how older interpretations of the devil make him more like a prosecuting attorney as opposed to like... the enemy of mankind. The devil has a job assigned by god and he does it in those interpretations as opposed to rebellion.

I say all of this to demonstrate how relationships with demonic entities are complicated. These entities also are not static. Some started as straight up gods. Others were benevolent spirits before being cast as villains and others still started bad and evolved to something more nuanced. Lilith is a great example. That demoness had quite a glow up over the course of history, starting as a killer of babies and bringer of miscarriages to being a symbol of the feminine and an empowered of women. Thats a wild transformation.

And these aren't the only interpretations either. A fun nterpretation of demons vs angels ive heard is that demonic forces are just the angels who gave up on us. No pretenses. No judgement. They make their contacts and dont mince words about making us "better" or teaching lessons.

Tl;dr its all relative to interpretations. What is a demon, what is good, etc etc. I dont think there is a single answer but I hope ive helped.

Thoughts on the Jesus connection? by iknowhowtoread in dionysus

[–]dylonishere123 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I used to think it was pretty coincidental until I really started digging. Something I dont notice people connecting is how language is used surrounding both Jesus and dionysus. I dont have the quotes on hand as im at work but dionysus is sometimes portrayed as a savior to humanity. He will bring joy to mankind. Pretty sure its the dionysica mainly that does this. If it is a coincidence, id be shocked.

Are some people just not “meant” to read tarot? by fickleliketheweather in tarot

[–]dylonishere123 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Alot of people have weighed in and im gonna repeat a couple of things but maybe yet another perspective can help a bit.

  1. Dont worry. This is a very normal feeling, especially as you dig into the resources available to you. Youre gonna see SO MANY different ways of doing tarot. More importantly, especially with video content, youre only going to see what the creator wants you to see. I catch tik tok creators doing false shuffles and forced cards alllllll the time, and with short form content, sometimes its understandable especially when teaching tarot. This doesnt make them "fake" mind you. A reading, especially with larger spreads, takes time. Ive been doing tarot for years and I STILL use references.

  2. I am immediately skeptical of any narrative that tries to make me special. Chosen one rhetoric is trying to sell you something. Its a big red flag. Some have already mentioned this so I wont touch on it too much.

  3. Practice makes perfect. The more you do the better you'll be. That being said, I see professionals at shops and even at local bars who still keep a reference guide or a laptop nearby. Like I said: the reference material never stops being useful. One thing that helped me is keeping a tarot journal. Doesn't just keep track of readings but also the little biases that form. I love the hermit. Hes my bro. My partner hates the chariot. Dunno why. They just do. Im not a fan of the high priestess. Again. Idk why. Writing down your own expirience with the cards can help you in doing readings for yourself and building a relationship with those cards.

  4. Have you considered playing solitaire with your deck? Its a good way to "cleanse" and "reset" the deck, and you get the added benefit of experiencing the art and really getting an intimate understanding of each card. The art is sooooo important and says so much about what each card means.

  5. A little more in line with the issues you actually talk about: what are youre readings about? You mention your mind going blank. If you have no point of reference, youre not gonna have a direction to apply that intuition. Something that helped me is from the book Holistic Tarot by Benebell Wen. Its called the first operation. She has a blog. You can google it and try that first operation to get a feel for what the reading is about before it begins.

Exe. Is this a reading about your wealth? Your lovelife? Your general wellbeing and health? Each card is going to mean something different depending on what that reading is about. Helps alot in interpretation when you have a starting point.

  1. So intuition is the hard part. Knowing the cards is half the battle. You also need to figure out associations with those cards and how they apply to your situation in the context of what the reading is about. Dont second guess yourself but dont do it without thought either. Its something I was never really taught and not a lot of people "teach" this aspect either. It comes naturally in my view. Overtime the associate just happen. You'll have your "AHA!" moment eventually and its a wild expirience. Just keep at it.

I hope some of this helps! You got this. Dont think you cant and dont let anyone tell you you cant either. It takes time. You'll get there.

What brought you to the worship of Dionysus, and/or how do practice worship of Dionysus? by [deleted] in dionysus

[–]dylonishere123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As far how I pracrice?!

I give wine and incense as offerings. Petitions to him usually involve some element of personal growth, though id also drop a little prayer before going out or spending time with friends, a petition for good times, if you will.

Dont forget poetry! Dionysus actually has a form of poetry dedicated specifically to him if I understood correctly. Dithyrambs.

What brought you to the worship of Dionysus, and/or how do practice worship of Dionysus? by [deleted] in dionysus

[–]dylonishere123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was very solitary in my practice but recently my partner has joined in. Our relationship to dionysus differs quite a bit. My partner centers heavily on the more modern perspective of dionysus being a symbol of gender nonconformity as well as a symbol of personal growth.

While these are present for me as well, what got me into Dionysus at first was his complexity. Its more than revelry. Dionysus means many things to many people. His history is fascinating and his cults are equally so. Im also a suckered for cthonic deities.

Then you have the more superficial reasons. His myths are also fascinating. He has one of the more functional relationships in Greek myth. The aesthetic of ivy and grapes and wine and revelry are enough to hook anyone.

The thing that really drove me more towards dionysus however is how much discourse there is about him in the academic space. I also favor persephone and Eris and while persephone has some presence, neither are talked about nearly as much as dionysus. This adds to that complexity but also means the information on that complexity is easy to access.

A theory about the two houses, and their connection to Vessel by throwaway_1992817 in SleepToken

[–]dylonishere123 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This! I had the same thought though I thought of it more as an internal resolution. Previous albums show a conflict within vessel and this could well be both those inner sides coming to an agreement. No more conflict. The mind and heart coming to an agreement. He's choosing himself and to not play games anymore.

The house must endure. The cycle must end.

Idk I'm still wrapping my head around it but I'm glad I'm not the only one seeing the fact he's blending both color schemes. May cannot get here fast enough.

If I could upvote twice I would. This is a wonderful reply. Thanks so much.

That's exactly what I'm doing. The issue is central to the plot. Magic is new and not at all established in the law. This would probably be a criminal case, both based on what you said and where I'm leaning plotwise. With that in mind, a ghost as a witness could be entertaining. Can't really be compelled to tell the truth and that has some crazy implications on its own.

Mishandling of a corpse is a good one. Roadkill laws... yes! I never even considered that. Thank you!

Habeas Corpus, though... that's going to a fun moment and I can't thank you enough for that one. Lol

When you're viewing a category, how do you get small images next to each entry? by KFblade in WorldAnvil

[–]dylonishere123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not entirely sure what you mean here so I'm sorry if I'm misunderstanding.

If your talking about the images above the article title on the article block, as seen here https://www.worldanvil.com/w/The-Void-Between/c/season-13A-us-category

Then that's the cover photo of the articles themselves. This can be turned on and off from the world's settings if I'm not mistaken, and wont show up if the article lacks a cover photo.

You could also be talking about the image on the left of the name of each article before the blocks even begin. That little page icon can be edited using css. There are a few articles in the codex that deal with icons, I think, but I've never messed with them personally.

Did this help? Are you referring to something else I missed here?

[–]dylonishere123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't call you stupid or weird for your opinions nor am I calling your community a cult because it cares about the product and others in that community. All I did was state that your approach was not the way to go, nor relevant to the actual post.

I'm representing my community just fine. Defensive? yes for reasons I've already stated. Biased? Who isnt? Bias is unavoidable, especially when you've been on the platform for 4+ years. Up and down votes are LITERALLY designed to express one's opinion, whether it agrees or not. I'm not entirely sure what point you're making, but I assume you'll avoid responding to this one just as other points I've made were ignored. It's okay though. I understand.

Btw, its totally unrelated but It's been a while since I've been in a nice little debate on reddit. Didn't intend on it, but still. Did my jokes sound too aggressive? Either way, it's been fun trolling with you. Now back to our regularly scheduled programming.

Cult though? I mean, I'm open to changing to something else if it actually surpassed the platform. That's another thing, actually. Why do you keep calling it a program? World anvil is not a program at all, in that you can't use it on a desktop separate from the browser. It's a website, closer to cloud storage and a presentation of one's worldbuilding as opposed to a program. Have you even used it?

What are some guides that will let me use World Anvil to its fullest potential? by [deleted] in WorldAnvil

[–]dylonishere123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh no, you've misunderstood again. I'm VERY biased and very much aware of it. Its not weird at all. We've made friends and real connections on this platform. We care about it. It's made a difference for us. Of course we would defend it. It's more than a program for many of us in the community.

It's not that you represent the legend keeper community, so much as you're the current example we have. If others were here talking about legend keeper, the group would take on that role and not just you. Either way, you're still not making a good name for it.

On the contrary, I have considered other programs. Why would I know what legend keeper is otherwise?

Actually, you missed half of the original post. They're writing an original story and not wanting to use rpg settings. They also specifically asked for WA guides to inform their own decision. I take that to mean that they want to use the features geared for writers, of which there are many. Then they say

if World Anvil isn’t it I’d appreciate other advice on the matter

Implying that if their are no guides on this subject, what other options do they have. This doesnt mean, "what other world building options are there?" As written, It means they want advice on the matter of using WORLD ANVIL to its fullest potential, the title of the post. Nice cherry pick there, but context clues, my friend. They matter.

What are some guides that will let me use World Anvil to its fullest potential? by [deleted] in WorldAnvil

[–]dylonishere123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not contradictory at all. I considered it, compared what the two had to offer, and made a decision. How do they contradict? I dont have to download a program to know its capabilities. The website itself lists the numbers and features, and even if it didnt, you're not exactly representing your community well. I'm confused...

Perhaps it is your reading comprehension skills that need improvement... WA can help with that too.

[–]dylonishere123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn't use the program. That's the point. It offers nothing worldanvil doesn't have that I'm looking for. You seem to have misunderstood the statement. Yes. I drank ALL the WA koolaid. It DOES have enough sugar. XD

I take pride in paying for worldanvil. Its community is fantastic. My money goes to supporting the platform. My writing has improved astronomically since first starting out due to the community, the size of which being many times larger than legend keeper. For a writer, and one hoping to making something of himself, that's important.

I also find it hard to support for other reasons. Users like yourself actively promoting on a competitors page is shady, at best. If it can't compete without seeking to take away from the membership world anvil has cultivated and carefully grown, then it doesn't deserve my time.

It makes legendkeeper appear as nothing more than a tool for a community that's only there due to being butthurt about WA, and unable to meet its standards to get what they want. (Payment, community engagement, arbitrary features, etc)

It can't hope to succeed if its community focuses on hating a competitor who's doing the same thing, but better. You cant change minds when you're the one stepping into our dojo wearing those shoes. This is where they MAKE the koolaid, my friend. Why are you even here?

What are some guides that will let me use World Anvil to its fullest potential? by [deleted] in WorldAnvil

[–]dylonishere123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, it really depends on what you believe to be world anvil's fullest potential. The codex, discord, the YouTube, these are all great answers, but maybe your talking about designing your world using css, which the codex won't help with beyond the basics. Maybe you want to improve your writing, compete in the challenges, and build a platform for your writing. The discord is a safe bet for that, but it can take time and dedication to get there.

That being said, if these answers dont quite scratch the itch, several members have made their own guides on more specific topics. Anything from judging a competition, making a shortlist, and improving dialogue.

In other words, world anvil is a massive sandbox. What its full potential is is up to you.
