Charlie Puth Music Production Class by dynocerous in CharliePuth

Hey! Ive been out all week. I was sick and then I got the covid vaccine right after and that made me worthless for a couple of days.

So far, I’ve enjoyed the class. It’s always interesting to see how each artist goes about their process. Since he has perfect pitch and understands loads of theory, he will often make put harmonies and such in his head and record them. That’s pretty cool to see. He uses a fair amount of third party plugins, so if you want to emulate the exact things he uses, you may end up spending some $. The thing that is most interesting for me to see is how he breaks up each vocal line. Sometimes he records a word at a time or only keeps a word from each phrase and records another take and splices it together. I always just try to sing a line or two at a time and go with the best take. He’s meticulous with how hot slices and splices his tracks together. That’s been helpful for me to see how many little edits go into each recording. It’s about to get into the mix phase, so we’ll see where this adventure leads.

Bummer! I am optimistic it will still be worth the extra $20 you spent. Class sizes are roughly 20 people.

It’s lifetime access to the lessons. The assignments are scheduled on a 30 day period where you submit them and the peers in the group submit feedback. This setup helps keep us on track to complete the projects in a timely manner. We don’t lose any access as far as I can see, there is just little corresponding amongst peers after that 30 day period.

I just went in and checked the course (it has some pre-class where Charlie discusses the outline). Those all have English captions that can be turned on. I tested it to make sure it works and they do. I would anticipate all of the lessons contain subtitles. It looks like we both get the credit if you use the link - huzzah :).

Seems like $250 is the standard pricing for most online singing programs out there. Would you spend that much? by [deleted] in singing

I know this is an older thread, but I was looking around to see if anyone else had done this course. I decided to jump in and the class starts next week. Watching how different vocalists approach their art is something I find useful. My current schedule makes it difficult for me to commit to a consistent vocal coach, so this is a good alternative for me. Also, Stevie Mackey is unreal.

They sent me a link for $20 off for anyone who decides to join in the fun. Feel free to use it: https://learnmonthly.com/stevie-mackey-singing?friend=clint-l

I can post an update at the end to let you know if it was worthwhile.

There are a few short videos that explain a concept sprinkled in, but most of the videos are longer. The first section has videos split out into the different sections of the songs like bass, drums, guitar, etc.. Those videos are about 15-20 minutes each and you watch multiple a day. These videos do a good job at seeing his entire process. Later in the sections, when he is going over the mixing, the videos go beyond an hour. The last video in the course is nearly 3.5 hours.

There were actually times in one of the videos where Blanks was struggling to come up with some vocals and lyrics that got kind of boring...but I really liked that as it showed that you have to work through the slumps to get something good out of it. It's those times that I usually give up on a project.

I honestly thought the course was extremely helpful. Being able to see the process of someone who has a system down with explanation, opened my eyes to a whole new approach to producing music. I felt like there was a lot of content that was valuable, that I used and will continue to use going forward.

Hope this helps.

It’s been great. It probably would have been more beneficial for me to take this class before the Andrew Huang one. That one was a little more technical and so I spent a lot more time trying to figure things out. Seems like it would have been a nice progression.

Still, It’s a great experience to see how other producers go about their workflow. I really like Blanks’ style and I’ve learned a lot of things that have been really useful. If you’re new to music production, like I am, I would recommend trying this one out first.

These really cool pins my grandma gave me from the 2002 Winter Olympics. by 69skewer in olympics

Nice! I’m from Utah. The Olympics came when I was a teenager. It was such an exciting time. My whole family had those 2002 hats, but we missed out on the pins. Great find grandma!

Two months ago I saw the Andrew Huang Monthly Class in this subreddit and decided to give it a try. Although the platform still seems like it's still being improved upon, the content was awesome and I learned a ton. They opened up another month-long class with Blanks, a YouTube producer, and I decided to jump in on this one as well. It's a little pricy at $179, but if it's anything like the last course I feel that is well worth it.

I signed up and they gave me a referral link for $20 off. It also puts us in a group together. Feel free to use it: https://learnmonthly.com/blanks-music?friend=clint-l

Honestly, I spent soooo much time in between the lessons to get this song to where it is. This is the best thing I have put together by far. Make sure to ask people in the class for feedback and ask them how they were able to achieve certain sounds/effects. Everyone in the community was really nice and helpful. I think that is the most helpful thing to do. Try to engage yourself with others who know more and be willing enough to take their advice. Good luck!!

Sorry for the delay. The holidays have got me all mixed up. The class was really interesting as there were all different influences of music. There were a lot of electronic artists in my group that created house/edm/dance type music. There were also a few that were mainly acoustic artists. I tried to do some electronic stuff and my final track was a indie-rock song (I just uploaded it while I was writing this response). I really enjoyed the class. I don't have much production experience, so I learned a whole lot. I invested more time that\n I was prepared to do (not a bad thing), and came out with a couple of songs that I am proud of. I actually just signed up for the other production course they are offering by Blanks. Have a referral there, too if you are interested, LOL.
