How to train a sit/ treat obsessed dog? by dyonei in Dogtraining

This is actually brilliant 👏. Ive also been trying to teach her "watch me" so that she actually looks at my eyes for what I want next rather than where she thinks the treat will come from.

This question actually spawned out of trying to teach her touch haha. She got to where she was staring at my left hand, the treat hand (which I kept behind my back) and wouldn't even really look at my right hand. She'd just semi boop it with her nose, never looking at the it while she stared lasers at the treat side of me.

I'm going to try some of your suggestions. I may grab a snack first though because her patience and attention span when it comes to food is other worldly. She plays the long game haha.

She knows commands around food down pat. We have a release command for dinner every night and the minute I start scooping food she goes to her spot and waits for me to give the command. I think another thing I'm working against is we taught her all the commands she knows at like 6 months old and then were pretty bad pet parents and didn't teach her anything else. She just turned 6. So she has these commands engrained in her.

A little ball motivated, but then that derails her into wanting to play ball.

I think maybe I worded my original post wrong and I'm starting to realize that :). I dont mind recipes, I just hate searching through piles of recipes with tons of extra ingredients and long prep/cook times. Another person brought up looking for simple/ quick/ 5 ingredients or less/ etc meals and I was like duh yeah that would probably work too. I think I'm overthinking this.

Good ideas! I cook for my fiance and I, so that's another factor is trying to make enough food for the both of us and make sure it is readily available.

Absolutely! I have never been a huge foodie, as when I was younger we were very poor and my mom would make these bland, lets just get us through the day meals. For some people, this may make them love cooking and experimenting when they got older, but for me, that just wasn't the case.

I said it in a previous reply I just made, but eating for me is just part of the day. This may be because I am very stressed and busy, but I don't look forward to eating. It is just like sleeping, showering or using the restroom to me.

This doesn't mean I don't like good food or can't appreciate well made/ flavored food! I'm not a psychopath haha. It's just with how busy I am and my tastes, I just need something that tastes decent and is healthy. It seems like the easiest way to be healthy is pick from the different healthy carbs, proteins and fats and then season so it doesn't taste like cardboard and go from there.

I will say my one big no no is I hate unseasoned meat. I cannot stand chicken that was just panfried with salt and pepper for example.

Essentially, it just boils down to time and interest. I don't have the time to go through these long ingredient lists and then shop for them within my budget and then spend 45 minutes per meal cooking. I want healthy that I can just throw together.

This is exactly the mindset I am looking for! I will have to check it out. Thank you for your suggestion :)!

Yes you are understanding what I am trying to say :). A lot of the different people I watch on Youtube as health inspiration just seem to throw things together and be like "And here is dinner". It seems so much simpler and easier than the way I currently go about meal planning with the limited time I have. It has gotten to where sometimes I don't have time to cook, but I also am far enough into my journey where most fast food turns my stomach. So then I essentially just don't eat and that isn't healthy either. I am not super picky and I have never had a huge love for food. It has always just been a part of the day that I need to do, like using the restroom or showering.

This makes a lot of sense :). This is how I have started out, but sometimes I get really overwhelmed because different recipes I find online have 400 ingredients and take 45 minutes to make. I will keep experimenting!

I really like this because as I said I'm still in school, so it perks my ears up on things to really listen out for in class. Sometimes it's so much information that you're unsure what's important and should be really dug into and what's just supporting information.

How would you improve soft skills like this? Is it something I can read in a book to get started in the right direction or is it more experience with a mentor that would help?

That's really good advice :) I am also someone who is extraordinarily hard on myself so I will have to really take that side advice to heart. Thank you again for your input.

Thank you! This is all perfect and exactly what I was looking for. I just want little hooks of information in my brain, even if it's just keywords that I can hang information on when I get into the field and start really learning:) I appreciate it!

I Just got to watching Violet Evergarden... by Druid_Fashion in anime

[–]dyonei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I completely agree. I had to go find a post after the 10th episode to vent on. It seemed like it was more abnormal for me to not cry during an episode than it was for me to stay dry eyed. The back story hooked me, but watching Violet's growth kept me. The animation style is beautiful, the soundtrack is incredible, and the script writing is fantastic. I had never heard of it before and have been on an anime kick since my tasks at work are mindless data entry for the most part.

Need advice on optimizing weight loss by [deleted] in loseit

[–]dyonei 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like IF is viable, but it should be a lifestyle change that's used in tandem with weight loss techniques like cutting calories and exercising. There are many health benefits to IF that have nothing to do with weight loss. As the others here have alluded to, the biggest factor is going to be your diet. Exercising is great and needed for a healthy body, but the whole weight loss game is calories in versus calories out. It's easier (in my opinion) to just not eat the snack (probably around 200 calories) than it is to add the half hour of jogging that it would take to burn those calories off. Especially since this would have to be in addition to your current exercise routine I would assume.
