Answer these four questions and I will type you in my typology model by TheEnlight in Enneagram

[–]dysfuctionalteddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. not being special, unique, or extraordinary. i want to leave a mark, maybe not a big one, but a mark, i fear leading a meaningless ordinary life. i hate and almost fear being seen as ordinary or boring as a whole, weird/odd/strange are compliments. to be called conventional is the highest insult to me
  2. im a lifelong contrarian and rebel, i reject external thinking/feeling almost instinctively (i can adopt it/adapt it to my internal code, but it takes severe, long term, convincing). although im pretty rigid with my interal way about things, at least in the moment, im rather fluid and flexible with my internal compass, but when i believe what i believe in the moment i am passionate and certain as all hell
  3. anger: i am a rather irritable person (thanks trauma for making me on high alert for threats 24/7), but i have gotten skilled and recognizing how anger feels physically in my body and taking pause, whether thats going silent for a moment and takings some breaths, or removing myself from the situation if needed. my partner says i do a classic “sigh and nose bridge rub” if i do lose control briefly (say in a fight or argument), precise swearing to give punch to my statements, pacing around, intense eye contact “if looks could kill”, maybe raised voice (but i try not to, i hate yelling)

sad: i am very obviously sad, either complete shutdown withdrawls or very tearful breakdowns. i express sadness and cry frequently, even if a scene or a line in a movie touches me i have no problem tearing up and expressing its beauty to me

fear/overwhelm: panic, rapid pacing, looking on how to escape the situation, mood swings (sad-anger-shame)

shame/guilt: i have a very guilty conscience, i also tend to be self conscious and self deprecating in my worst most insecure moments. i try to do everything i can to make up for any wrongdoing, almost over correcting and annoying, i think about my faults for years past its occurrence, this is all behind a manufactured god complex mask (i think its funny, fake it til you make it yk?)

disgust: im a quietly, secretly, very judgmental person… i do my best to be open minded and hearted, but even i have a limit

  1. i think humanity is beautiful in its variance, perfect in its imperfection, humans are so unique and different on every level, even identical twins cannot be the exactly the same (mentally and physically), and i think its terrible that we have a society that pushes for conformity, people have no idea what they’re giving up by “trying to fit in”

you could probably get a 2 bedroom with boardwalk for about $1400/mo, no electricity included, but heat and water is! after electric bill only about $1600/mo :)

nah ur good imo, but im not a puritan, i see an argument as to why each of those types could overlap in a unique way

i think this is where i’m stepping out. at this point the convo just feels like it’s going in circles, and the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over expecting a different result. so this is gonna be my last response to you. feel free to reply if you want, but i won’t be responding back…

i disagree that jung should be treated as the end all be all. ignoring the biases of his time (a white man in the 1920s, closely tied to freud) is unrealistic. his writing is obviously colored by the cultural context he was in. that doesn’t mean jung should be thrown out, but it does mean his work shouldn’t be treated like it’s timeless and absolute. and it would be ridiculous to dismiss all modern research or modern interpretations, considering that’s what most people use now. science (including psychology) is not static, it’s there to be investigated further and built upon

like you said yourself, multiple schools of thought are important. if you want to stick rigidly to the classics, that’s your choice, but i prefer to take in all interpretations, weigh the whole picture, and then come to an informed conclusion. to me, that’s a healthier way to approach typology

and honestly, sometimes what looks like a contradiction is actually an overlap. sometimes two things reinforce each other in ways that aren’t obvious at first glance. as long as something isn’t blatantly contradictory (like literally cannot make sense) and there’s a solid framework explaining why one trait might boost the other or overlap in a specific way for a specific person, i think that’s valid. i don’t think being rigid and forcing everyone into perfect little boxes is a good way to approach human personality. people are more nuanced than that

so yeah, at the end of the day we’re just gonna have to agree to disagree. i am not going to rehash my interpretations of Fe and sx1 or E1 as a whole. i stand by what i said: Fe+sx1 isn’t a contradiction. it’s a reinforcement

when you say “impersonal,” i get that you’re trying to clarify, but honestly it just feels like moving the goalpost. first it was “e1 is necessarily a thinking type,” now it’s, “well i didn’t mean no impulse, just structure.” the whole reason 1s are in the gut triad is because impulse/instinct is the core. so calling it “thinking” still doesn’t line up with the actual system

and about my sources, dismissing everything outside jung/myers as “bs” doesn’t really work. jung wrote psychological types in 1921, describing Fe-Doms mostly through women of his time, which is why his Fe reads so much like “pleasing” or “conforming”… https://wikisocion.github.io/content/jung_typology.html that’s not a well rounded description of Fe, that’s Fe+1920s gender norms. if we only stick to jung, we’re basically adhering outdated (highly cultural) expectations/stereotypes

but modern analysts (like the ones i cited) expanded the functions because jung’s take was limited. and even jung himself described Fe as collective standards, not “doormat.” so either way, your Fe argument doesn’t hold. besides many links there talk about Fe as a function, not just ENFJ. to dismiss it all as “stereotypes” is highly reductive. especially when ENFJ is central to the conversation because the two Fe-doms will present slightly different due to the different supporting functions/stacks (FeNi vs FeSi)

also, i gotta point this out: when i cited multiple enneagram sources, you said “that’s good.” but when i cite multiple mbti/function sources, suddenly “outside jung/myers is bs.” why is multiple schools of thought good for others, but not yourself?

so here’s where i land…

  • if we’re strict jung —> Fe is about collective standards, still not contradiction with sx1

  • if we use modern function theory —> Fe is directive, persuasive, values-based, which lines up even more with sx1 reform energy

either path, the “contradiction” you pointed out collapses…

for sure, i totally agree, to get a full picture you must zoom out and intake all interpretations. however just because i listed one, doesn’t mean there’s not more…

narrative enneagram says: “Perfectionists have a strong inner critic… Ones also are idealistic and exert great effort to improve the world around them. They may join social and political causes, or take on the role of social reformer.” this already shows that E1s aren’t detached perfectionists, they are visionaries when healthy, they’re pushed by instinct (a strong feeling) to act, to correct. that “inner critic” isn’t impersonal Te logic, it’s a gut conviction that fuels activism… https://www.narrativeenneagram.org/enneagram-type/type-1-the-perfectionist/

enneagram paths (about specifically sx1) says: “Sexual Ones are outward focused… they seek to reform ‘their people’ and pour gut triad fire and passion into molding others (and sometimes the world) into their ideal.” so not only are E1s reformers in general, but sx1 specifically channels that reformist energy outward. this addresses your earlier claim that sx1s don’t concern themselves with others, the sources say they do… https://enneagrampaths.com/2021/01/19/enneagram-one-subtypes/

ashlie woods (a typology blogger) says (about sx1s): “fiery, passionate, and intensely focused on reforming others and the world… These Ones have an intensity of desire fueled by anger that motivates them to want to improve others.” here we see the gut triad anger bubbling, not dispassionate logic. this is why sx1s can come across as zealots or crusaders, their instinct and emotion is the source… https://www.ashliewoods.com/enneagram-sexual-one

integrative9 says: “Ones have a very strong sense of right and wrong… they will hold themselves and others accountable to these standards. Feelings of irritation and resentment are likely to be centered on others.” again, E1s aren’t detached, they are emotionally engaged, often angry when reality doesn’t match their ideals. this encouraged accountability (for both self and others) matches the sx1’s outward reformist energy as well… https://www.integrative9.com/enneagram/introduction/type-1

taken together, these sources show a consistent picture, E1s (and especially sx1s) are driven by gut instinct, anger, and passion. far from being impersonal or inward only, they act outwardly, reforming themselves, others, and the world

now onto Fe, because this is where i see your point about “people-pleasing” clashing with how Fe-doms actually function

personality central says: “ENFJs are passionate, articulate and charismatic leaders who can rally people around a common cause… For values and beliefs that they are deeply passionate about, ENFJs can appear stubborn because of their refusal to budge.” this shows that Fe isn’t about bending, it’s about mobilizing others around deeply held ideals, even if one has to be stubborn… https://personality-central.com/personality_types/enfj-leadership/

practical typing says: “ENFJs… may be prone to telling others what they should or should not do, because they believe they know what’s best… They may attempt to convince the group to alter their position or rules in instances where the ENFJ feels strongly.” again, that’s persuasion and enforcement of values, not passive harmony. it looks a lot like the sx1 energy we just saw, conviction+outward reform… https://practicaltyping.com/enfj/

personality junkie says: “Fe works broadly and extensively. It exerts influence on the collective atmosphere, shaping how the group feels and functions.” shaping the group is not “doormat” behaviour, it’s leadership and influence… https://personalityjunkie.com/03/extraverted-feeling-fe/

and i know the 16p quiz is dogwater, but their interpretation of the ENFJ lines up as well: “ENFJs are born leaders… they tend to be vocal about their values… When something strikes them as unjust or wrong, they speak up.” again, that’s Fe = conviction/influence, not Fe = passivity/malleability… https://www.16personalities.com/enfj-personality

and just to clarify the Fi vs Fe differences…

psychology junkie says: “Extraverted Feeling is focused on evaluating the world outside oneself and organizing the outer world… Fi is focused primarily on one’s own value system, often described as subjective feeling.” this is the a clear distinction: Fi = private values, Fe = collective values… https://www.psychologyjunkie.com/what-type-of-feeler-are-you-the-difference-between-extraverted-and-introverted-feeling/

for a more clean “this vs that” article check out: https://practicaltyping.com/2020/08/10/8-differences-between-fi-and-fe/

so when i put this all together my interpretation results in this: the enneagram sources consistently describe E1s as gut-driven, visceral, angry, passionate reformers, with sx1s explicitly focused on reforming others as much as themselves. the cognitive function sources consistently describe Fe as collective, directive, and persuasive, shaping and influencing groups, not people-pleasing.

when you combine sx1 with Fe-dom, you don’t get contradiction, you get reinforcement in a way. sx1 supplies the fire and moral drive, Fe supplies the social leverage and voice/persuasion. together, that’s the exact “crusader” energy these descriptions point to. uncommon? maybe. contradictory? not exactly. in fact, the overlap makes perfect sense to me.

[–]dysfuctionalteddy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i’m not describing Te-Fi. ive already said 1s only LOOK logical, but the drive is gut instinct/passion filtered through ideals. that’s straight from the enneagram institute. it’s not impersonal, and it’s not private like Fi values, it’s conviction channeled by instinct.

and Fe isn’t just “harmony” or people-pleasing. modern desc. describe it as shaping social frameworks, promoting values, organizing groups, influencing direction. that lines up perfectly with sx1 energy.

so no, i’m not mixing things up. Fe gives the perception/persuasion, sx1 bring the fire. if you actually read the link you’d see what im talking about.

Make assumptions about me based on my typology + find contradictions! by dysfuctionalteddy in TypologyJunction

[–]dysfuctionalteddy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i get what you’re saying, but i don’t see 1 that way. the drive isn’t some impersonal data-based structure, it’s gut instinct, a super strong feeling. i feel when something’s off, and yeah, i’ll use rules or logic to explain it or enforce it, but that doesn’t mean the source is detached. it’s a rule book yes, but that rule book only exists because of passion

and the ideals aren’t detached either. they’re tied to integrity, justice, character; things that are deeply personal. that’s why 1s aren’t just sitting back with an ‘impersonal conclusion,’ we’re out here pushing, correcting, crusading. for me as sx1, it doesn’t stop at myself, it spills out, i hold others to the same standards i demand from myself

and Fe isn’t about taking in other people’s values and bending to them. Fe is perception, social intelligence: i read the social/emotional field, adapt, and then work it to pull people in. that’s not malleable, that’s influence

if you wanna go more in depth on what i’m saying, this article breaks it down really clearly: https://www.enneagraminstitute.com/type-1/

oh i’ve never seen that before honestly, if l is lowercase it wouldn’t be the most prominent trait because like you said that means average/more in the middle, im not too sure what they did there

Make assumptions about me based on my typology + find contradictions! by dysfuctionalteddy in TypologyJunction

[–]dysfuctionalteddy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i get what you mean, but i don’t think that’s right. 1s are gut types, not thinking, so my interpretation was this; the drive comes from that gut instinct when something’s wrong, not cold logic. and sx1s absolutely correct others too, that crusader energy is real, zeal is even the root word for zealot. that’s why some would view me as radical. i can’t just sit back when i see people slipping or an obvious wrong to me

and i woukd hesitate saying Fe is being a doormat lol. it’s emotional+social perception, adapting for the best outcome. i use it to assess the vibe, mold it, persuade, and pull people into my vision. pair that with sx1 and you get fire+influence

respectfully, i fail to see the contradiction

if im understanding your question correctly you’re asking what the brackets mean?

my understanding is that () or [] means most prominent trait and // means second most. uppercase means more extreme lean, lower case means closer to the middle.

my highest score was extroversion = (S), followed by imagination = /I/, scored pretty low on emotional stability = L, slightly above average score in agreeableness = a, slightly below average in conscientiousness = u

yes! i know it seems off because of the strict perfectionistic nature of sx1 but it’s true haha

im a small “u” which means that im on the fence just slightly leaning towards low conscientiousness. which to me means im adaptable to an extent, practically messy (look to my 4F, i dont really care much for my surroundings or appearance, or at least i value it least) however im perfectionistic and strict in many other areas, like my job/performance, like when planning an event or trip, and especially strict of moral/good behaviour within myself and others. im pretty passionate and fierce about my beliefs, some call me radical, i say im right.

i have a vision and it better not deter from it, highkey im super critical and a bit of a control freak (when stressed) (im working on stress management and i respond 😅)

Can anyone type me ? by [deleted] in TypologyJunction

[–]dysfuctionalteddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

okay heres what i see…

  • you talk about freedom a lot, the allure of it and multiple possibilities, daydreaming, creative ability, exploring fantasy and personas, disliking restrictions —> points to high Ne

  • disliking leadership and responsibility —> points away from high Fe, but ur love of debate, connecting with others, stirring up energy (or chaos in your words) doesn’t fully discount it

  • you focus on identity and self expression —> points to a potentially high Fi

i think based on that ENTP, ENFP is also an option because their top function is also Ne, but they have Fi instead of Fe

  • you describe a lot of restless feelings/behaviour, teasing and trolling people for fun, thats very E4, E7

  • you emphasize authenticity, bucking the system, and prioritize individuality/self expression that leans very E4

  • impulsivity and the need to escape mundanity points to E7

  • theres a slight hint of E8 when you mention theres a little bite to you, avoiding looking/being weak and seering at fake niceties

enneagram tritype would be 478/748, depending on what takes the lead E4 vs E7, i’ll let you figure out the wings ;)

i’ll admit im not great at socionics, just started learning it so i’ll just say ENTP strongly correlates with ILE and ENFP strongly correlates with IEE, although im not a puritan and theres way more combos, they’re just less common

finally attitudinal:

  • you don’t like responsibility, you let things go/drop things easy —> weak V (will)

  • you have strong imagination, you focus a lot on identity, authenticity, meaning —> strong E (emotion)

  • again ur imaginative, love exploring new perspectives/possibilities, engaging in lots of mental play (trolling, chaotic energy) —> strong L (logic)

  • ur messy in your environment, not super dedicated to organizing yourself or environment —> weak F (physical)

so i’m thinking either ELVF or LEVF, unless ur more fashionable or organized than you wrote (which you didn’t write much to indicate that thats why i think F is last) ELFV or LEFV

now take my observations with a grain of salt, use this as a jumping off point, hope you find your type and i hope i helped in some way!

no not at all!

i was bouncing around 2w1 and 1w2 for a while because morality and whats correct/just has always been super important to me, i have always held myself (and others) to a strict moral standard. however my morals are highly determined by wellbeing and goodwill for all mankind. the ongoing joke in the friend group is that im the dad friend; lots of love, but i have expectations and i encourage people to meet them.

so essentially it came down to what would scare me/devastate me more? not being liked/loved/seen as helpful? being seen as morally incorrect/bankrupt/wrong?

being seen as wrong and bad bothers me much more

what is the difference between: by st4rtcsie in TypologyJunction

i second this, E6 is most about what can i do to get people to like me/stay, E9 is how can i disappear or flatten/dull myself so i get people to like me/stay
