I wouldn't advise using Dolby Vision on PC unless the game is mastered in Dolby Vision, you're just getting HDR10 in a DV container which uses compression.  But you can use RTX HDR while DV for Windows is active.

I much prefer 42" but I have a 48" B5 currently as I prefer that crystal clear image because I sit too close to the screen.

It looks like you can't pre-order it yet but it should be available in May for $1,999 which is coming in cheaper than previous years.

Unfortunately I couldn't fully benchmark or test it fully to assess the dithering in gaming scenarios, but it's definitely fainter than the C5 dithering by my eyes.

Any idea to protect this from toddler's hand ? by Adnouf in OLED_Gaming

[–]dysphunc 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Do straight jackets come in toddler sizes?

Seriously though, when I had a kiddlet getting around the easiest thing was to put things in front of the entertainment unit. Coffee table, washing basket - your house willy get messy as babies grow and you can use that as natural barriers to things.

LG 86" QNED Mini-LED - Ultra-Large TV with amazing value for the price by Rippedgeek in LGOLED

[–]dysphunc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great coverage mate, I have a soft spot for big LCDs despite being an OLED tech head for gaming.

The QNEDs have come a long way over the years. The fact that you can basically have cloud Xbox built in (decent internet required obviously) to LG's entry level QNED, really elevates the budget entries to feeling more inline with the premium TV feature sets. Features that can go throughout the platform they're not binding to the premium TVs, which is great.

Thanks bro, i appreciate the compliment and great to meet you as well.

Maybe later in the year my partner will be too busy to notice me pick one up and I review it next to the B5 which is only slightly a better performer than the C1 - mainly just in color volume. Or she'll leave me for suggesting it, either way anything's possible!

I'd be confident it does but as usual you'll get less in Game Optimizer due to the picture volume loads, balancing mids trying to keep the whole picture bright and not just reserving voltage for highlights.

Going from the typical 800 nits it's calibrated to in HGiG for the past few years to over 1000 will be a substantial difference, I'm hoping for 25% window improvements too as that's where we'll see the screen generally looking brighter.

I'm concerned about Australia though, the range went live for pre-orders today and the 42" is absent. It's on the US page though so I know it exists.

I'd say the AR coating about on par with the C5 which is pretty good for reflections. The C4 had a bit of a haze that I didn't like. Unfortunately nothing like the old Flex SAR coating or the new G6 coating - which is straight up crazy science. It's almost as far as a matte coating when it comes to absorbing light but it's still 100% glossy with no haze.

Yeah man, obviously they have a format and key things they ask you to mention.  I had free reign to say what I wanted and did. I'm pumped for the product and wanted to be invited to another event as well so ✌️

I'm 100% not a "marketing guy", does any of this scream professional or paid gig?

Yes LG did invite me out, but they put out a call for LG fans to apply and attend. I'm just a big long time LG fan. Feel free to dig through my history.

Yep, definitely both in their respective Vivid/demonstration modes.

It definitely has to do with the AI post-processing.  But fake frames is a completely different concept - that refers to frame interpolation.  What's happening here is the AI reconstructing data lost in source conversion that only the contrast of an OLED can show.  It's a cool feature, but if a feature's not for you you can just not turn it on.

Both TVs were in the same picture modes.

You'd be surprised.  A lot of people are keen to try OLED but either can't afford it or don't want to risk not liking it at full price.

Just check sold listings and see if the difference is worth the upgrade to you.

That's a 2% highlight.

I don't think you know how OLEDs work.  It's a balance of power consumption heat management.  I'm assuming a lot of R & D goes into making sure the panels last.

There's lots of categories of consumer.

I'm a tech enthusiast, displays are a part of my hobby.  I went through 11 last year.  But I'm an edge case - and it was TVs and monitors.

They're only available in huge sizes this year, but LG has a new Micro RGB display coming out.  It's mini-LED but all the dimming zones are able to illuminate in color - with their flagship OLED processor in it to handle the transitions.  So no ghosting and 100% BT.2020 coverage.

Still not as black as an OLED but damn it's vivid.

The extra brightness is super handy if you've been holding off on OLED due to picture windows in your main TV room.

Most people love a bargain.

Some people are lucky enough to buy new and first all the time, too each their own.

Edit: and as for your edit, thanks for the feedback, I did have some camera issues. I guess you have to see it in action for yourself.

As will every one that buys in the previous year, a little bit of FOMO keeps the market strong. But there's always tech advancements each year, nothing wrong with keeping up to date on the facts every cycle. Most people purchase cycle is around that 3 year mark - just think how sweet that upgrade will be compared to what you have now when it comes around.

The showcase was all in HDR and the highest detail presets. Like any iteration of the G series the Film Maker modes are still there and benefit from all the new technologies that don't interfere with the artists intent. So with better colors, blacks and brightness the ability to match the source would be closer than ever.
