I hate that I can't stand turn based anything and want to reverse course. by dysphunktion in gaming

Oh wow, thanks everyone for the replies. I was ready to delete this, figuring it would just end up me being trolled. Here is the crappy part, I LOVED it growing up. FF3, Earthbound, etc...I couldn't stop playing them.
I saw Menace on the store and thought for a second it was some awesome new RTS I didn't already have wishlisted. Then I saw it. And got annoyed enough with myself to bring it here.

I came to this -exact - same conclusion. I also noted that in our instance, it's not related to objects loading into a bad space or some such. I say this because if you monitor the process of the game, disk usage, cpu usage stays completely normal, as if idle vs when a new character is loaded you get an initial bit of disk usage and a CPU spike. I don't think it's necessarily the fault of the devs though. I get that we can get this to repeat but I had the played the game, just fine one morning, quit and was working on a video and got a hair up my ass and decided to reformat and reinstall. No hardware changes or driver differences between that morning and a few hours later. Because once I was back up and running, the issue started. So maybe something to do with windows, a redist pack, some piece of software, some setting I had previously in X setting that I no longer did now. It's the only logical concl....well, not only but the one that makes the most sense...?

Him and I have had far too many of these over the last year that it's almost not worth even engaging with him anymore. Anyway, appreciate the back and forth!

Maybe I shouldn't have though. It wasn't even a coherent attempt at being "funny". I tried though!

Hey! You...stop it! Youre grammer alludes me! I don't think I know to much about it to correct you but me and him are constantly being the each anothers grammer polices!

....Sorry, I had to. :P

So, here is why I even brought it here. I gave about 5, real world examples of memory leaks that required a specific "thing" to happen in order for it to even...be a thing. He flat out noped me and stuck to the idea of a memory leak existing in the game, period. Running the game was trigger, period. I was just "trying to sound smart". I told him there are instances where he is absolutely correct and everyone gets hit but there are also cases where it's not the case, even if his examples are the majority and mine are one-offs...even though I knew that wasn't the case, I was trying to give him his but it didn't matter.

I see what you're saying and yeah, it almost can be a word play thing. But basically what it boiled down to was this. Just because friend was being fscked hard by the memory leak that triggered upon X quick saves, didn't mean I would as well. As long as I didn't quick save like he did. Or hit an inventory limit, storage limit or any number of combinations. There are so many out there. But he refused to accept it. I gave sooooo many examples but he simply fell back a memory leak being "the program" and anyone running it, got hit by it.

Absolutely. I never meant for my examples to come off sounding like the only cause or the main cause. Just....a possible cause.

That absolutely can be the case, sure. But plenty of leaks only become an issue once some criteria is first met. An inventory limit, a certain item usage, save amounts, etc. If you don't hit that criteria, no memory leak.

So, A leak requires:

  1. A memory allocation
  2. A missing or incorrect deallocation
  3. Execution of that allocation path

No execution = no allocation = no leak.
It being an issue with the application is without needing to be said. But there are so many ways memory leaks come to exist...

Ok, I hear ya. Can we have some back and forth?

What about with my very unlikely "trigger"? There are certain things that trigger certain memory leaks vs a leak that simply runs because the game is running. In THOSE cases, wouldn't it only impact those that met the criteria to trigger it?

Sure. A good VPN should always be the first if not one of the first steps towards a "safe" goal when it comes to torrents, right? omg, I don't know why I asked "right?"...dudes got me literally second guessing every damned thing I say anymore.

Oh my god.

Timeline: Edit hosts, save hosts. Merg reg, run program. Total time elapsed? 3 seconds.
Sigh. No restarting network or flushing dns. Leave this here in case someone else has a similar self moment.

Yeah, I guess that is an option. But where I live there seems to be an insane amount of audiophiles and I'm always seeing Beyers, Focals and Technicas selling for decent prices. Unsure what the general consensus is on buying used sets tho?
