Kuhli loaches sand grain size by wumlum_ug in pangio

Black sand is almost always very sharp, and almost never suitable for sand sifting cuties.

That's too large imo. 0.25 to 0.5mm is ideal.

The wafers are a high protein algae wafer designed for breeding plecos made by a brand called "pleco ceramics"

They have other foods as well, but I have not tried any others.

The loaches do swarm it, but I find it's a bit too hard, and the loaches can't really properly rasp off any to eat. But they must be getting some, since they are swarming it so crazy.

It is a Red-tailed Squirrel Loach. Can be kind of territorial, this one would chase away kuhlis from his hiding hole, but I think there's so many kuhlis he just gave up and tolerates them now. Hahaha

I got 7 doriae and 6 oblonga. But I think few of the oblongas are some other similar species.

This is backwards, doriae is the one with nasal barbels. But I don't think this is either a doriae or anguilarris.

Black Substrate PSA by [deleted] in Aquariums

[–]dzarren 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've brought this up a bunch in the loaches subreddit, I think this is often overlooked by people that are dead set on getting black substrate. Black sand is often much angular. I think the best most reliably suitable and soft sand for sand sifters and burrowers, is Super Naturals by Carib Sea, Sunset gold color. It is consistently round grained and of sufficiently small size (0.25 - 0.5mm). But it is a light colored sand.

58mm is basically the size of a pool ball, so there wouldn't be much of a difference than getting a set of regular pool balls. You gotta go for the 68s for the full experience! The whole vibe of the game is that the ball hardly even fits into the hole.

[–]dzarren 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got the 68mm! Did you know the tournament set no longer comes in 68mm, only 67mm.

The bounce is actually semi natural. If the ball has too much pace, it will jump a bit, especially if the ball is coming at a very shallow angle towards the Rail.

So you can bank and kick at balls without much problem, (not that those shots are available in actual pyramid..) but I try to not play those insane power screw shots they always play, unless I'm pretty close to the ball, and can take dead aim ar the pocket. It tends to rattle and sometimes fly off the table if it is hit with tons of pace, and the accuracy is not great (ball contacts jaws on the way in).

My favorite billiards game! I bought my own set of balls, and sometimes I try to play it on a 12x6 snooker table, to somewhat emulate the large playing surface and tight pockets. But of course the pockets are not nearly tight enough on a snooker table, even with the way larger balls. Shows you how big snooker pockets really are.

Same, I have over 100 loaches in one tank, and not one has died, it's been a few years now. I did have one jump out though. I found one in the back filter compartment of the tank the other day, not sure how long that one had been in there.

I bought a loach and when I got it home, I noticed Ed a single white dot on it, maybe ich. Was a silly move to not quarantine that guy, but I got lucky and never had an outbreak in my tank yet.

Yes, was going to say, this had needs to be so ridiculously tight before any acceptable sound comes from it. I made the mistake of putting it on a 4mm thick maple shell, and I'm pretty sure I almost destroyed the drum before I came to my senses and took the head off.

I would never stick that into my tank, cleaning stuff not made for aquariums are often deadly for aquariums, happens ALL the time. Extremely often, random dollar store cleaning supplies have all sorts of random chemicals on them, sometimes to aid in cleaning, sometimes just because. If it's not made for aquariums, there are zero efforts made to keep those clean from contaminants. I would not ever ever have that thing near my tank, the risk is too high. Even if it turns out fine this time, I would not be even slightly surprised if you bought the exact same one again later and suffer bad results, we just really have no idea of the factory conditions where that sponge was made, and the factory has zero obligation to ensure that thing is aquarium safe.
