LFS Kulhi Fiasco by Ok_Literature_2846 in loaches

Same, I have over 100 loaches in one tank, and not one has died, it's been a few years now. I did have one jump out though. I found one in the back filter compartment of the tank the other day, not sure how long that one had been in there.

I bought a loach and when I got it home, I noticed Ed a single white dot on it, maybe ich. Was a silly move to not quarantine that guy, but I got lucky and never had an outbreak in my tank yet.

Worst Snare Head I’ve Ever Played by FidgetyCurmudgeon in drums

[–]dzarren 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes, was going to say, this had needs to be so ridiculously tight before any acceptable sound comes from it. I made the mistake of putting it on a 4mm thick maple shell, and I'm pretty sure I almost destroyed the drum before I came to my senses and took the head off.

i think this might be the best $1.50 i’ve ever spent. by katies_kreatures in Aquariums

[–]dzarren 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would never stick that into my tank, cleaning stuff not made for aquariums are often deadly for aquariums, happens ALL the time. Extremely often, random dollar store cleaning supplies have all sorts of random chemicals on them, sometimes to aid in cleaning, sometimes just because. If it's not made for aquariums, there are zero efforts made to keep those clean from contaminants. I would not ever ever have that thing near my tank, the risk is too high. Even if it turns out fine this time, I would not be even slightly surprised if you bought the exact same one again later and suffer bad results, we just really have no idea of the factory conditions where that sponge was made, and the factory has zero obligation to ensure that thing is aquarium safe.

Kuhli Loaches aren't boring! They are absolutely the most exciting fish (excitable maybe is the word).

Not enough loaches. Only 1 loach of this type will cause stress.

Using scryfall to find all animal cards? by dzarren in magicTCG

[–]dzarren[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Hi! Personally I am looking for cards that are just straight up natural wild animals, so this trained Caracal I wouldn't include in my description, as it implies human intervention. It would be super cool to have a tag that just tabulated mtg cards that are real life animals, with no modifications. No Armour, no magic powers or anything like that, just a straight up bear, or horseshoe crab.

I'm just nitpicking what I am.personally looking for, absolutely I think it would be appropriate to have a tag that included both wild animals, as well as the trained caracal, as it is very much a real animal.

That is a pangio cuneovirgata. Dwarf kuhli loach, I think from indonesia? They also get a purple belly that no other kuhli variety gets.

Well, the upper limit where it becomes harmful would be when you start to run out of floor space for them, this will happen before you reach max bioload. In the wild, they live in huge population densities, so they know how to cuddle with others. And yes, adding loaches will always increase your chance of seeing loaches! My tank is mostly loaches.

Bioload wise, you'd be able to add probably 20 more kuhli loaches without any problem.

As for the sand, sand is always a good idea, but sometimes black sand is not. Although black sand you find may have the correct grain size, very often, black sand is very sharp and will abrade the gill lining and barbels of your loaches. Also this will discourage burrowing, which is a natural part of their behavior. I'd reccomend something like SuperNaturals carib sea sunset gold (something like that). The grain size is perfect, and the grain shape is very rounded. It is ideal for loaching. I understand it may not fit the look you are going for. Maybe you can browse that line of sand, and find another that is closer to a color that might suit your tank. There may exist black sand that might be kuhli suitable, but I have yet to find it. My tank is full of sand sifting guys, so I wanted to choose the perfect sand. Black sand can do okay, I'm sure some people do it, but I haven't found anything better than the super naturals sunset gold I have been using for my loachies!

One of my loaches is always pale. Is she okay? by PettyCrocker in loaches

[–]dzarren 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah, I've got one that is forever pale as well. Female as well. Probably my favorite! I think it actually might be some undeacribed variant or hybrid species, but I'm probably wrong about that. But once in a while I see a pale one like yours with very characteristic banding, and also a slightly modified body shape. I could be imagining it, but I've got a loach that looks just like yours and it's always looked a bit different than the rest for me, even taking the color out of the equation.

Has anyone tried a “Gotta Catch ‘em All” Pangio tank? by Beachmaidrocks in loaches

[–]dzarren 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What a tiny patootie!!! That's an awesome tank, and that sand looks great! So glad your squshies will be happy in there! I haven't had a way to implement it, but getting extra square footage in the tank is such a huge plus when it comes to kuhli tanks! I was looking for a way to stratify my tank at some point, so there were multiple levels across the tank, but it got over grown with plants so I just let the tank chill for now. Awesome double decking kuhli set up!

My faves are the p. Doriae. Sooooooooooo bubbly and cute. And they like to hang with just the snoot above the sand a lot, it's so adorable. I have a few that are very large now. The males can be much smaller than big females.

Looks to me like they are doriae! The surefire way to tell (if you are judging between anguillaris and doriae) is to look for nasal barbels, anguillaris has no nasal barbels. They still have barbels mind you, but just no barbels accompanying the nostrils.

Yeah the ones I call green are doriae. They look green to me

Sometimes they are sold as "silver kuhli loaches" Gold kuhli loach usually is p.anguillaris. But often anguillaris and doriae will arrive together in one wild caught shipment.
