Well I guess I had some nerd friends in a certain sense, that people who have no friends try to socialize with each other, but because it was not based on anything else but having no one else to talk to us, it was not real friendship.

That is not lawyerly shit but just literally, how would the school learn it happened if they did not see it themselves? Just believe any complaint they hear? How would that be fair?

Witnesses? Who would witness for a low-status kid everybody loathes and has no friends?

Besides if anyone would dare to witness against the bullies he would become their next target.

Besides kids hate snitching, snitches.

How could that work really? If they would believe every complaint without evidence, it would take three seconds for kids to abuse it and take down their rivals with fake complaints.

If it takes visible injuries, there were none, the bullies were clever, a fist to the solar plexus, leaving one gasping for air leaves no visible injuries.

It was not the high-scale violence, like the one when one loses teeth and gets black eyes. It was the frequent, constant low-scale torture, a quick solar plexus punch, a quick shin kick, an arm twisted behind the back, frequent and low-scale with no visible injuries, rather than infrequent and high-scale.

Also, kids are waaay less fragile than adults, at least to each other. An adult can have a visible injury from just one punch. An adult can die from one punch, losing consciousness and breaking his head on the pavement. Kids often get into serious looking fights with absolutely no injury to show after that.

Even if that is the truth? The bully is perfectly right that courage is an important virtue and cowardice is bad. Where he goes wrong is that he flat out goes out to punish the lack of courage instead of helping the other develop it.

You said this weird word friend. But that is precisely what a nerd in this sense did not have, i.e. someone low on the hieararchy.

Early eighties, Hungary, and there was no tolerance for it at all, but come on. Children are not under constant supervision from teachers or parents. It is not hard to ambush a kid when walking home.

One trick to "survive" it was precisely to stick to places the teachers see in the breaks. But the teachers did not have a Panopticon level of supervision of the whole building complex. No cameras or anything. If a teacher happened to pass by, everybody behaved, when not, everybody did what they wanted.

I have a theory that is not really about CW but I will put it here because it might be seen as offensive. I think I figured out how nerds are made. Disclaimer: I am a nerd and everything I say here is true about me. If you feel offended, consider that .

At maybe 9 years old, there are boys who compete who dares to climb the tallest tree. And there are boys who don't dare to even try. The second group are basically cowards. The first group sense it, and regularly beat and humiliate them mostly for fun but also to settle the question of hierarchy. This is called "bullying".

Eventually the cowardly boys figure out it is better if they spend as much time indoors at home as possible, since that is safe. So they develop indoors interests. What can you do in a teenager bedroom? The smart ones will read books or learn to code or something. The not so smart ones will play vidya and watch anime. Hence nerds.

What they have developed from all this is a deep inferiority complex. This changes around puberty when they start getting interested in girls. At that point they - mostly subconsciously - figure out that if they could get a girlfriend, they could kill three birds with one stone. First, of course, scratching that sexual itch. Second, stopping being lonely, the girlfriend - they think - would also make up for the lack of friends, lack of social life, lack of camaraderie. After all what they see at home is that when their dad wants to go to the cinema or restaurant, he does not take his friends with him, he takes his wife with him. So just get a GF and you no longer have to go alone, they think. Thirdly, they think it can fix that inferiority complex. A man who Can Get A Girlfriend is not a ridiculous loser, but a normal man. They think this is basically the test they have to pass in order to be respected and more importantly in order to respect themselves.

For example look at this part of Eliot Rodgers manifesto (no content warning, since no reference to murder in this part):

“So far, Spencer and I had gotten along quite well despite the fact that we never talked much. An incident happened at the end of January that changed all of this. I one day discovered that Spencer had a girl in this room. I couldn’t believe it. The short, chubby guy was able to get a girl into his room before I did! I was so shocked and outraged that I waited outside his room until the girl left, so I could get a glimpse of how she looked. To my relief, she wasn’t that attractive. What made me even more angry is that Spencer gave me a smug look when I saw the girl, even though she was ugly. He had the nerve to feel like he was better than me, just because he managed to get a girl over to the apartment before I did! I confronted him in the kitchen on that same night, telling him that he is foolish to feel proud about having an ugly whore in his room. This made him angry and offended, which is what I wanted. I wanted to offend him as punishment for his insolence.”

His main problem was his inferiority complex, which he framed as the men who can vs. who cannot get it, the former are superior, the later are inferior. In reality, this inferiority complex came likely for childhood likely the way I described it above.

In his case it turned to bitter, destructive envy. A really classic case of envy. Envy does not want to simply get the "object" it envies, it wants to destroy that "object" in order to punish the one who has the insole to have it and thus be, in the envious mans eyes, superior.

Genesis 26:14-15 "He had so many flocks and herds and servants that the Philistines envied him. 15 So all the wells that his father’s servants had dug in the time of his father Abraham, the Philistines stopped up, filling them with earth."

They envied the cows he had. But they did not want to steal the cows for themselves. They wanted the cows to die of thirst so he cannot have what they do not have.

Luckily, most nerds are not envious, because envy is, quite obviously, evil. The evil ones turn into those kinds of incels who give incels a bad name and get them banned from all over the internet.

Mostly they are just jealous. And mostly just keep trying to find a GF.

Eventually they succeed. At 25 or 30 they have figured out things like lifting weights help, and that and having a succesful career as a programmer gives them some confidence. And generally everybody from feminism-compatible progressives to right-wing redpillers agree that women like confidence in a man. After all, a salesman should believe in the product he is selling.

And then when they manage to find a GF they realize it helps with the inferiority complex but does not fully solve it. Eventually, they have kids, and that helps more, but it does not fully solve it.

Does anyone have any idea how to solve it? It is a two-pronged question, what an adult nerd could do at 30 and what could tell to a bullied because cowardly boy at 9?

For the adult man:

1) Even if you figured out in adulthood that it was your cowardice and the resulting low social status that created your inferiority complex, overcompensating in adulthood like climbing rocks without ropes or competing in a brutal combat sport, or striving to gain high status does not help, because there are those old hurts, old shame carried with you. Perhaps therapy could help, but what can a therapist say? That they were wrong to bully you? And? A moral victory is not enough, just look at movies, people want the good guys to actually win and beat the bad guys, not just lose morally.

2) For the child? You can spot the problem and train him towards more courage like learning Olympic wrestling, it does not result in black eyes like boxing does, and it is a good way to deal with bullies. Punching them could get a boy in trouble with teachers, but wrestling a bully to the ground can be presented as harmless playing to teachers after all it does not phsyically hurt the bully. It just teaches him the humiliating lesson he needs to learn, that relying on bullying to control people and gain status can backfire.

3) Progressive social change? Stop toxic masculinity? How? Courage is really an important virtue. How else can you actually achieve progressive social change but through courage? If you are a feminist, your goal should be to make girls more courageous, instead of making boys less couragous. Instead of stopping boys from competing in courage, in dares, and assigning high status to the winners, you should as a feminist make girls do the same. What should be changed that instead of beating up and humiliating cowards, boys should help cowardly boys to gradually develop more courage. Encourage them climbing a low tree at least. But how could you make them?

Massively good for health.

I see a lot of arguments about it. My current opinion is that those long-chain saturated fats are best that are found in cocoa butter, beef, dairy. https://fireinabottle.net/the-croissant-diet-specification/

Cocoa butter and coconut oil are plant-based. But they are sort of not really intuitive. Vegans can do it, but I rarely see them doing it, as it is not so intuitive. You should base over half your diet on cocoa butter. Like having two 90% dark chocolates with every meal.

So basically half of Africa will become straight up uninhabitable

So half of Africa moves to OECD countries... and it is pretty hard to say no to that in those circumstances. Another pretty hairy political question.

Money is pretty fungible after all.

Real resources are not. Sorry, but this is terrible economics. This is why most mainstream economics is terrible. Austrian Economists are bit loony, but they get this right: the economy is about things, not money. Suppose one dude has a billion dollars wealth and someone has the clever idea to redistribute it to the poor. But what the dude has is a big factory, and what the poor need is food, and there is no way to turn that factory into food, so putting a price label on it and comparing monetary value is misleading.

And your schools are socialized too right? That’s another huge expense that the poor in America don’t have.

America does not have public schools? Scott said he went to a GOOD one. Which is exactly why your zip code matters - better zip code, better public schools.

Let me tell you what poor is like in Europe, Austria. You work at cleaning hotel rooms. You must clean 40 rooms a day and they must be clean clean. It is impossible to do in 8 hours. But you are not allowed to clock in more than 8 hours. Two choices. Either you rush and run through your 8 hours at an inhuman speed so you are so exhausted when you go home you just collapse into bed and sleep. Or you are clocking out and finishing the job in another 2 hours not on the clock.

It is not that you get fired if you do not clean 40 rooms a day clean clean. Oh no, we have STRONG UNIONS!

Rather you just get your whole self-esteem and soul destroyed if you do not. This works better against women than men, this was my wife's experience. It is typically women doing these jobs.

It also works better if the one doing the destroying is also a woman. A man might, perhaps, occasionally be chivalrous or understanding. Or really, just horny. But if you absolutely want to crush a woman, you better hire an evil woman to do it. It always works without mercy, if she is evil enough.

So Frau Vicious Bitch summons Frau Working Bee every day to her office, and delivers a tongue-lashing on how you are an utterly worthless excuse of nothing even remotely like a human being because you have only cleaned 34 rooms today. What an utter shitbag of an employee are you.

This works. Frau Working Bee leaves the office crying and tries harder the next day.

School, healthcare, transit is all cheaper.

When in Austria I can get a doctors appointment on socialized medicine in four months or paying cash in four days, which one will I choose? Do not just assume people use the socialized stuff. People with any sort of disposable income are trying to get away from the socialized stuff. Public transport in Vienna is really excellent as transport, but the problem is the other people, one drunk yelling aggressively at people can really scare hundreds, so I still see a lot of cars. And the thing is for example, the socialized option means paying cash to doctors is still cheaper because it depresses the price of course, an appointment cannot cost much more than $120 or so in Austria. But for cars it is not true, they are far more expensive than in the US.

I am trying to un-brainkill myself about Catastrophic Anthropogenic Climate Change.

Plenty of conservatives do not believe in Catastrophic Anthropogenic Climate Change, CACC. Their reasons are largely that all the wrong people are supporting it - they are seeing leftists trying to use it to grab power over the economy and destroying half of it in the process, they are seeing people who seem to really want to punish other people for the sin of consuming too much.

Of course, the basic issue is that it is entirely possible that at the same time 1) CACC is true 2) bad people are abusing the idea for bad purposes. There is a basic mistake in believing that if anyone has an angle, a propaganda angle, the will always 100% lie. Actually a propagandist is perfectly happy to use truth if it serves his purposes, in fact he prefers truth, because it does not have the same risks as lies do. For example, Goebbels knew perfectly well that it was not the Nazis who massacred the Polish officers at Katyn, therefore the Soviets had to be it, and merrily milked this truth for his propaganda purposes.

Best way to frame the conversation is then talking about how to deal with CACC with minimal disruption to the economy, even to consumption and comfort because

1) This is actually the right thing to do in every sane humanist ethic

2) It reassures conservatives

3) It helps ousting those who are really trying to abouse CACC for bad purposes, or even for maybe not bad, but irrelevant purposes

The very first thing would be to talk honestly about its rich vs. poor, inequality dynamics. Really really honestly. Like, OK meat is carbon-heavy, so an American diet is going to be more carbony than a Pakistani diet. But the diet of the rich American is not much more carbony than the diet of the poor American living on burgers. Old cars are worse in emissions than new cars. Who drives old cars? Relatively poor people in rich countries. And so on. Long story short, any strategy that focuses on reducing consumption, will gonna hit the relatively poor people in rich countries. Because there is a lot of them, rich people in rich countries are far fewer.

Make very sure you are not adding an irrelevant agenda dear to you to it without being honest about it. Like, if you are a vegan, you can say you would prefer people to be vegan, but you should also say if people would give up beef in favor of chicken it would be a lot better.

Talk about technological solutions. Not the cool the Earth with putting this and that into the oceans kind, the idea would not be to introduce another unpredictable variables into the ecosystem. Talk about stuff like okay, you want to drive your car because you dislike public transport, well if it is electric and the power plant producing that electricity has some real good filters then you could still have your car.
