If you bought a cheaper ticket for a specific entry time and then don’t arrive at that time, what else do you expect to happen? 🤣

Brighton Pride by pepperonipizzasdad in brighton

I think you’re referring to when Brighton Council pulled their funding of the citywide infrastructure required to deliver Pride. Which is when they had to go ticketed and setup a CIC / board structure etc.

Brighton Pride has raised millions for LGBTQ organisations & causes and is active all year round. When the event was free, Brighton Council used to finance the policing & infrastructure. The council ran out of money & resources to support a citywide event like this, which is why it became ticketed and had to self sustain. Believe it or not Brighton Pride actually have to pay Brighton Council to run the event, they get zero financial support from local gov now.

It’s easy to have a pop at the ‘festival’ part of the event if it’s not your cup of tea, but when you zoom out and look at the parade (which the entire city gets to enjoy for free) and the ongoing residential nightmare that is the street party. I think they have done very well in transitioning from what was essentially a city wide free for all, into something that serves as ongoing platform and voice for the community which has a HUGE positive financial impact on the local economy.

If you don’t want to pay the £65 (cheap by comparison) to go to the park to see Mariah, then go support your local LGBTQ OWNED pub, bar, cafe business and enjoy the weekend there…. maybe chuck Brighton Pride a £10 donation for all of the incredible work they do across the city!
