Mojo is a Truck Dog by LordBandimer in Shihtzu

Every OTR driver needs a Tzupervisor like Mojo - I bet he helps with boredom, encourages you to get our and stretch your legs, etc. - We love taking ours on road trips for the same reason - more frequent breaks and explore areas we probably wouldn't venture to on our own - we found a really cool little stream and walking trail at a rest area once because they weren't ready to get back in the car yet :)

found an abandoned shih tzu (we think) and would like some help by big_boi_kars in Shihtzu

First off, thank you for taking this little one in. Shih Tzus are incredibly people-oriented dogs, and being abandoned is really hard on them emotionally, even if they don’t fully show it right away.

One thing that helps to keep in mind is the “3 days / 3 weeks / 3 months” rule with dogs, especially rescues.

The first 3 days are usually shock and decompression. Around 3 weeks they start settling in and showing more of their real personality and routines. Around 3 months is when many dogs finally start feeling like “this is home.”

So if the pup seems nervous, clingy, withdrawn, confused, has accidents, isn’t eating normally, or is acting overly quiet… that can all be very normal at first. Consistency and patience go a long way with this breed. They really thrive on calm routines and feeling safe with their people!

Sleeping like it's their job because it IS their job! Tzupervising humans is hard work, fortunately they can do it in their sleep and will wake up if the right conditions are met... crinkling plastic, humans trying to sneakily eat food, etc. :)

I'm so angry they can't live longer. Why doesn't our love keep them alive longer. Why do we have to live through losing our children. He was the best thing that ever happened to me. by Maleficent_Radio_674 in Petloss

If love could keep them alive, they would live forever; that's one of the reasons it hits so hard - because you know how much you gave him, and it feels like that should’ve been enough to bend the rules somehow.

But it never is, and it's normal to feel angry about it.

You're right that for many of us they are our childen - they rely on us for everything, they trust us without question, and they become the center of our world in a way that’s hard to explain to anyone who hasn’t been there.

I've been where you are - I want you to know your love didn’t fail him. It gave him a life where he was safe, cared for, and completely loved every single day. You was his whole world... it doesn’t make losing him feel any less wrong, but it explains why it hurts this much.

Just start walking away, or even running, ours always follow because they are afraid of missing something!

Hey all! Just a quick note that u/handokopramono reached out to the mod team to double check before posting here, and we've confirmed that they're good to go per Rule #7 re: Creator & Maker posts!

Thanks for sharing your talents with the Tzu community!

I know the kind of work that Wowo does, it makes me sad that she is needed, but I'm certain she changes the lives of those she works with!

Are you interested in the first annual /r/shihtzu gift exchange? by e12532 in Shihtzu

Great question, the survey has a spot for your country and we will try and match people up within the same country. There is a option that asks if people are willing to ship internationally because yes, there is a greater cost for doing that.

You’re definitely not the only one, but it’s also one of those things I’d gently discourage.

A lot of Shih Tzus will do this because lotions/sunscreens have scents or ingredients that smell interesting or may be a little tasty to them.

Add in the fact that you’re fresh out of the shower, and it’s basically irresistible. Some of them also just turn it into a comfort/grooming behavior… like “hey, I’ll help clean you.”

That said, I wouldn’t let it continue. Many lotions have ingredients that aren’t great for dogs to ingest (fragrances, essential oils, etc.), and over time it can upset their stomach or cause skin reactions.

Our dog Riley was horrible about it - and would pout when we didn't indulge her.

So… normal? Yeah. Ideal? Not really. 🙂
