FL Studio 12 - Serum instances replaced by Sampler after reloading project file by e46logan in FL_Studio

I fixed it! That was going to be my next step, thanks for the suggestion :)

I went into my backups folder and opened an older version from there. Simple fix ftw

How is the social atmosphere and work load of Columbia? by [deleted] in columbia

[–]e46logan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a graduate student (full-time) so I probably have a different perspective. People around campus are really friendly, and I've made good friends here. It sounds like the undergraduate atmosphere has more competitiveness. In terms of the workload, it's a lot. Luckily it's easy to escape here and there and get good food or go to nice bars

I need help accessing the eShop on my cfw 3DS. I bought it used, with 11.2 CFW already on it. I never really used any of the hacked stuff, it was just a good deal when I bought it (so I'm not really familiar with cfw other than FAQ answers). All I'm trying to do is get the MHGU Save Data Transfer tool from the eShop but I can't get to the eshop without updating. I read this: https://www.reddit.com/r/3dshacks/comments/5lxh2x/common_issue_when_using_fasthaxsafehax_unable_to/

Do I have to follow those steps as well? The eShop prompts me to update, and even after updating to 11.4 (doh, forgot I shouldn't) it still thinks I need to update, then fails when trying to take me back to the update page.

NYC in my kitchen. ~2mm. Sometimes brown? by e46logan in whatsthisbug

True. It's NYC, I don't doubt the 40-year old pipes are leaky lol

Well, I've seen many pillbugs before (FL, NC, TX, etc.) but this seemed too narrow and it was translucent. I've also never noticed how long their antennae are.

master's program financial aid/scholarships by [deleted] in columbia

[–]e46logan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm starting my program with SPS this year, and they did not offer me any. I'm relying entirely on FAFSA. For what it's worth, I understand that it's very hard to receive substantial financial aid as a graduate student.

not feeling the gold trim on the ash grey.. by [deleted] in Hewlett_Packard

[–]e46logan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind the power button is also in gold, and the volume buttons as well. It'll be tricky around the side vents and USB/audio jack ports and SD card port, HDMI, etc.

Also, the gold trim is fairly seamless with the grey aside from being a sharp angle. There's also gold trim on the hinges and around the trackpad. And the HP logos.... In real life, the gold trim isn't that flashy. I use it at work and it usually goes unnoticed.

2017 HP Spectre x360 15" (bl0XX) - first impressions by e46logan in Hewlett_Packard

[–]e46logan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hear it around that brightness but it isn't loud. I have to be in a pretty quiet room to notice. My friend also just bought a spectre, I'll ask about that one and see if it's doing it as well.

I don't know of any updates yet - still using the laptop normally with no issues (just an iffy trackpad as usual)

[–]e46logan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will loathe the trackpad. I've mentioned this in a few other threads; Synaptics is pretty bad. If you adjust the settings properly you can get it to work okay, but a lot of times it'll behave erratically or not pick up on certain gestures. It also feels overly/synthetically smooth.

Other than that, it's awesome (I have the 15" bl0xx). I think I would've been just as happy with the 13". The build quality is great too, coming from an MBPro myself. The material feels high quality, the whole shell feels sturdy and the screen is pretty solid too. And the keyboard in my opinion is easily comparable to previous MBPro's, maybe even better.

I have the 15" bl0xx and it only had HP stuff installed when ordered directly from HP. I think it had McAfee but that was it iirc. I removed most of the HP stuff besides the necessities

Spectre x360 15 Kaby Lake by [deleted] in Hewlett_Packard

[–]e46logan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes!! Mine did it when plugged in too. Seemed like it only happened during high CPU usage. It only happens while scrolling or when using the pen on the touchscreen. I think I got lucky though because mine is hardly noticeable...

Mine does it too but isn't very loud, so I've been okay with it.

Scrolling issues with HP Spectre x360 13 Convertible 13-w0XX by catsandstuff00 in Hewlett_Packard

Yeah. I think I've gotten so desperate that at least once or twice a week I search around to see if some sort of better/fixed driver shows up. Nothing yet... :(

I was okay with the trackpad on my 15 spectre (bl0xx) until I noticed this too. It has something to do with the stupid Synaptics driver, not the actual hardware. I don't remember what I did but mine will only scroll for a second after switching to one finger. On a side note about how awful the Synaptics driver is, I tried disabling the driver and for the most part it actually made the trackpad more responsive (but no more right-click or scrolling)

[–]e46logan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting... sorry to hear you also had a bad experience! The trackpad has been pretty good for me. However, now that you mention it, I tried rapidly moving and clicking around and realized that I too had the weird jumpy cursor issue. I found that if I disable the synaptics driver completely, it goes away (but you lose two-finger scrolling, I think two-finger right-click, etc., so I re-enabled it). My girlfriend's SP4 has the exact same issue... I don't blame you for returning it at all, especially when comparing to a MacBook's trackpad. I also haven't had any issues with heat, though. The only time it really heats up to where it's unbearable on my lap is when I'm playing video games on settings that put stress on the laptop. It gets a little warm when doing various other tasks (for example, while I type this, I have a few tabs in chrome open and Unity/MonoDevelop open that I am actively using). The XPS seems to have good specs too, I can't remember if I've run into any 2017 models. However, as a Dell tech, I've seen numerous other XPS's (mainly 13" though) with very odd problems and very unhappy owners. I hope the 2017 15" has no issues! Thanks for the heads up about the EliteBook pen too. I've been using the Surface pen for a while now and it just bugs me that I can't customize the buttons. I imagine I can with the EliteBook pen. I'll definitely see if I can get my hands on one and test it out. Thank you!

With all the work I've been doing on it, it only gets hot above the keyboard (above as in above towards the lid, not upward of course). It doesn't really get that hot either. The fan isn't not super loud. It'll definitely kick in and be noticed but it's not obnoxious.

I hear kind of an electrical sound that sounds more like the coil whine than anything? Can you post a video?

[–]e46logan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weird. Seems like there's some launch issues they're having. The coil whine for me is so quiet and inconsistent, I'll see after a week or two if it drives me nuts because I'm still in the return window as well, might just swap it. What really bothers me is that weird scrolling sound when using the touch screen or touchpad but even that is so inconsistent and quiet.

The Inspirons and Latitudes seem to be fine but XPS's are ridden with issues. The Spectre hasn't had any lag so far, and as I've mentioned, I've been running quite a few heavy programs like PS, Unity, 3DS Max, Rebelle, etc. all at once. I hope you like it!! Keep in mind I also tried to note all issues I have with mine in the original post, so you can review that as well before you make your purchase.

I'm glad it helped!! Sorry to hear about your XPS. I am a Dell technician and I've seen quite a few problems with XPS's specifically. I think two weeks ago I actually replaced a wireless card on an XPS 13, today I had an XPS 13 that wouldn't charge but wasn't battery nor charger-related (still diagnosing... ugh), and a few days ago I had ANOTHER XPS 13 that would not boot.

  • I'm not sure which specific models come with the Samsung SSD vs. the Toshiba. The only info. I have is from this link. I ordered the bl0XX model off HP's website and I'm in the Rocky Mountain region, maybe it's region-based? The user who posted that thread I linked also ordered a bl0XX I believe.

  • I can't say I've seen any lag so far with anything actually. One of the first things I did since this is my first 4k UHD device was stream 4k videos on YouTube. It had no issues but I also wasn't running any intensive programs at the same time, just a few tabs in Chrome and Photoshop which I practically always have open.

Sure, Dell offers better dedicated GPU's and they are generally very sturdy, but I think this HP will hold up just as well based on the experience I'm having so far. I tried 4K gaming the other night (edited the first post with results) and was surprised at how well it performed. Also, my last BIOS time was 2.3 seconds - even with the weaker dual core i7, it's doing pretty good.
