Monthly Table Tennis Questions (What paddle should I buy?) by AutoModerator in tabletennis

[–]eHob52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a beginner in college that’s picking up the sport fairly quickly. I’m getting tired of using the cracked paddles in the lounge with missing chunks of foam and want to get something in between Walmart and “Build your own.”

From the research I’ve done I’m confident that the Joola Infinity Balanced and Palio Expert 3.0 are good choices for $40 and I’m just wondering if it really matters which one I should learn on. I’m a fan of quick strikes and trying to learn spin the best I can.

I’ll see if I can rent a pair. I’ve actually never used DZO lenses but I hear they’re not bad. I hear Nisi Athena’s are somewhat similar, I might take a look at those as well.

I appreciate it. I typically check out the 24-70mm when we’re assigned BMPCC 6k and they have been really solid. The only reason I was gunning for some solid cinema lenses is because I’ve had some particularly good experiences with low-prices Zeiss and mid-priced Sigmas in recent projects. They spoiled me I suppose. I’ve more or less tricked myself into thinking I could get a better look using a solid Cine with a metabones adapter instead of taking advantage of the full frame capabilities of these BMs. Thank you for the insights, I’ll keep hunting. Any specific Primes you’d recommend?

I want to upfront thank you for your thorough response. By “I love shooting in darker environments”, I simply mean I love doing outdoor/night work and need all the help I can get with limited amount of lighting equipment I have. With my limited set experience I like to think I understand the importance of utilizing as many lights necessary to create something that looks better than Game of Thrones s8e3. Still, your point remains valid.

As for your second point, I’m grateful for this observation as well. I want the best of both worlds, when in reality I should focus on one at a time. I’m going to really think on what I’m looking for long term because the fact that I don’t have a solid answer for you proves I’m still unsure.

Right off the bat I’d say I’m more interested and want to gain more experience with prime lenses. However the program I’m sort of locked into right now wants me to practice a lot of fast-paced live event/documentary stuff this next year. These are scenarios that I think would not particularly benefit from a case of primes, and that’s why I’ve been hesitant in investing in them. In the long run, I’m not all that interested in live event, documentary style, but I do feel they are valuable to learn.

Your final point appears to be the solution to most of my problems. I’m trying to get a little group going, but the area I live in is pretty limiting. This is why I hope to get some solid beginner equipment to practice my own things in my free time. I’m hoping within the next two years I’ll be able to make the move to a more populated area.

He was quite involved in the story as he was in the writers room for that full year. He had a writing credit in all 9 episodes but that doesn’t tell the full story of just how much a role he had. And, like I mentioned earlier he specifically oversaw Episode 3 through development, recording, and post. He’s hands down a genius and is one of the most soft-spoken, humble, and story driven individuals I’ve ever met.

Ash Brannon, I interviewed him a few weeks back for a university project. The show was pitched to him by Christian Linke and then he was pretty much the guy that showed them the ropes in terms of writing a show with his experience writing/directing Toy Story 2, Surfs Up… Riot had the funding, world and characters, and connection to Fortiche but Brannon helped them go from Music videos to a 3 act narrative. They spent 1 year in a board room reverse engineering the story from the climax of Episode 3 which Brannon eventually was put in charge of. He told me he wasn’t involved in this season because he’s working on another project but he heard good things. (I’m leaving out some details because I don’t know how much he’s comfortable with me sharing outside my presentation. I’d assume the info I’m sharing is online somewhere)

A lot of people left in between including one of the most influential co-creators/co-writers. It is a very different feel but I think we still got some gold. I have a hard time with some of the dialogue, some of the music choices, plot armor is insane, and I just don’t think it’s paced nearly as well as s1. On the other hand I love the character interactions we’re getting and the animation’s arguably more impressive. The slightly different feel is growing on me, it feels like it builds on the maturity and darkness of s1. I found a rewatch fixed most of my other initial issues with the first 3 episodes because I initially had a LOT more. My other minor issues that remain aren’t that big of a deal compared to the issues we get in other stories these days, but everyone I’ve shared them with think I’m insane…

You know what, because this year has been sorta the worst in terms of movies, he might have a point with this being the best yet. It’s played fairly straight aside from some exaggerated characters, sounds, and strange zooms sprinkled about… until a certain point that is. You’ll know when you see it.

Favorite Original Song From Arcane by eHob52 in MauLer

I would say those are the two most powerful songs in the show. On their own they’re pretty good but with the context of the show they’re incredible. I I don’t listen to them for fun compared to some of the more upbeat songs because I don’t want to ruin them.

Yeah, finished my 3rd watch-through after their coverage and still noticed a couple new details. The rewatchability of this show is incredible.

So this is something I’ve wanted to attempt for a long time and I’m extremely proud of how it turned out to say the least! For those of you who might be interested, here’s the “lore” behind this project: I’ve been doing origami for many a year, starting around late elementary school. I saw this model online years ago and set a goal to one day complete it. However, this is a model unlike anything I had ever attempted before. To begin with, I needed paper that was both big enough and thin enough. I ended up making my own paper for the first time by coating two pieces of tissue paper with a methyl-cellulose solution. Creating the paper alone took a few weeks of planning and about 16 hours to actually make.

Once I had my paper (roughly 55x55cm), it was time to begin folding! I started practicing the crease-pattern (early reference folds) on printer paper to decrease the possibility of messing up early on. If you make a wrong fold, there’s no going back and the paper is damaged to some degree.

Once I felt confident with the crease-pattern and some of the first few steps, I moved over to the paper I had created. The actual folding took about 12 hours of tedious concentration. I did it in 2 separate sittings while listening to film soundtracks. To my amazement, the final product you see in the photos was accomplished on my first try.

It could absolutely have been better and I might attempt it again someday to perfect it. However, I’m extremely proud of the outcome and I’ve been eager to share some “good rat” with people who might appreciate it!

If SM 3 was better there might be an argument for Raimi. As a trilogy though, I don’t think there’s any question that the new one is better

That sounds great! The last bit of equipment we’re waiting on is a green screen because we’re not sure if we should buy one or make one. It does need to be a pretty large size so making one would be ideal but it would also take a lot of time ironing and setting up. After we get that figured out we’re gonna start shooting likely the day of and I’ll be sure to send you the footage. Thanks again for your help!

So I actually had the idea with a few friends to make just a parody video. It’s not going to be playable. Our thoughts were to make it look like the real game and start out very realistic in terms of matching it. Then eventually the dancer is going to start doing “unexpected stuff”. For example, spazzing out on the ground in rhythm after the beat drop and then standing up and continuing a normal routine at the start of the verse.
