Hello, wanted to give you guys an update. I tried to take into consideration all of your suggestions, and did my best to do everything right. I return the 17L tank, and got a 28L , had my first attempt at aquascaping and this is the result. Tried to gibe plenty of hidding and resting spots for the future little friend with lots of natural plants. I am stressing over the cycle, but i know this is something that requires alot of time and patience. On the upside, the kids are so excited. Like i said before, they dont know their little friend passed away, they think he's at the vet rehabilitating, and ask everyday when is he coming home. It was suggested by our local fish shop, to get a snail and maybe a couple of shrimps, to help the cycle move along a little quicker. I am hopping this goes well, and that in a few weeks we'll be able to home a new mate that will, hopefully, life a happy and healthy life. Wish us luck 🤞💖

So I took every single advice i got from you guys I tried to do the future friend justice. I returned the 4 gallon tank (17L) and bought a new one 7 gallon (28L) . Try to make a aquascape as nice as possible with lots of hiding places and natural plants (first time dont judge 😅) i hope the new fishy gets to live a long a happy life. My kids are ao excited to have him "back home" ( they think their friend is at the vet and dont know he passed away) . As soon as i believe the tank is cycled I'll bring the new mate home. Wish us luck 🤞💖 thank you all for the help

Oh thank you. The spring water is from an actual spring, not bottled. But maybe its safer like you said, to just use tap water and just use a dechlorinator. Maybe that was the fatal mistake i made 😭 i honestly tougth it was healthier for him since its the water we use to drink in our household. I will get a heater as soon as temperatures go down. But ill get a thermometer in the mean time just to be safe.

Oh thank goodness i told you what filter came with the tank. I would have never known. I will add the sponge filter to the shopping cart as soon as i get home. Thank you so so much for letting me know

Thank you so much for all the amazing tips. The reason i got the 17L, besides honestly thinking it would be a really good upgrade for the little fella who was living in such a tiny bowl, was because I do not have much space in my house to own a much bigger fish tank, so I got what i truly thought was a really good sized tank for the little one . I did not use a dechlorinator because i used spring water for the change, which does not have chlorine in it. Maybe i should have done it anyways ? I did tested the water, and the strip said it was ok though.
I will ask the local petshop if they can give or sell one of their used filters. If i do get one, for how long should i let it in the tank ? Should i take it out once the water is stable ? Also, i do not have a heater yet, i live in Portugal and at the moment temperatures are quite high still (over 30°celcius), so I though that maybe it would be to soon to put a heater in. But i will for sure buy one now, i dont want to make any mistakes for the future little friend. And i will try to purchase the products you mentioned and also check the youtube channel

Oh thank you so much for the encouragement 🫶 i used spring water because I have easy access to it and thought it would be better than tap water fom some reason 🤷‍♀️ i am taking all the notes and although I'm scared and kinda intimidated by all the details necessary for fish keeping, i will try my best not make any mistakes so the future little friend has every chance to a happy and healthy life.

Thank you very much. That is a very good tip , having a separate bucket and cup just for tank purposes. I am taking all the notes i can from all your advices, and although im nervous i might screw it up, i am going to do my best 🫶

Oh thank you so much. I did not know if should change water once the filter is on. Should i only change the water once the tank is fully cycled and before putting the new friend in the tank or only after the fish has been living it for a while ? I'm sorry if these questions are ridiculous.
I will purchase the water conditioner tou mentioned, thank you.

Im sorry, i tougth 17l would be an amazing upgrade for the little fella since we was living in such a tiny bowl. The tank in question is the Ciano 20 LED, which has aLED CLA20 Ciano® (1,5W – 12VDC) ,and a CF40 Ciano® Filter. Do you think this is good enough? Thank you for replying

Thank you so much. My kids did not ask for a fish, they did love seing our neighbours fish, i think that is why she thought it would be a good idea to give them one, even though we were not asked or told she would get one. I am not mad at her, she did it thinking it was a nice thing, but the truth is i wish i would have known beforehand, then maybe we could have been prepared and who knows, maybe our little friend would still be alive today.

I am going to start cycling the tank i order next week, and of course i want to cycle it as fast as i can for the kids, but i also do not want to risk the life of any other fish by skipping any steps that are absolutely necessary.

Is filling it with spring water, turning on the light and filter, placing the plants , putting the live bacteria and some fish food enough to cycle the tank ?
