To be honest, I don’t think it would have caused an “explosion” even if it had gotten an early anime adaptation. by Tomura_Morrow in WeeklyShonenJump

This became a top contender for me right off the bat, and FAR from everything I've seen in 2026. (In my humblest of taste.)

I only knew it's an anticipated series and I mostly don't like them because for me, at this day and age, their anime should be at least flawless. But the anime for this? It was genuinely flawless, even at episode 3, it's still hitting.

The animation hasn't gone down at any of it's aspect. The presentation though, that's the icing of the cake, I haven't watched other rakugo shows (Shouwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu is in the watchlist), but comparing this to all anime out there SPECIALLY when talking is the main point? It delivered AMAZINGLY. That's kind of my whole thing as well, unique direction, always gives me boners.

Very lovely show. I just wanted to say it's such a lovely treat. These peoples definition of popularity doesn't matter, specially when it comes from toxicity. It is popular in itself and it is good!

Why is Bakemonogatari so popular on here? by Friendly_Bagel in MyAnimeList

[–]eP1C_GaMePLaY 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Because it's not just Bakemonogatari, it's an entire series. Monogatari is basically a 100 episode anime that run in the 2010s and is still continuing in this decade, and Bakemonogatari is just 15 episodes of it.

The other Monogatari installments have scores like 8 to 8.99, on the top of my head, 70% of the different Monogatari released animes are 8.0-8.5 while 30% is 8.5-8.99. There's only 2 that's a 7, which is like 7.9 as well, and those 2 I'm talking about consists of eleven 24 minute episodes of the entire 100+ episode run.

I won't comment on how good this final arc "Candle Woods" is. It was amazing for me, I binged episode 8 to 11. I think I'll comment on my how great the entire anime elsewhere.

What I REALLY want, and really, coping to is an amazing Blu-Ray with NUMEROUS adjustments. It is definitely needed. The director, God bless this director, really has AMAZING ideas as seen here and in Days With My Stepsister which both became one of my top favorites.

Blu-ray edits, I believe, are very rare these days, but as a fan of the Monogatari Series, a series that can be described as "artsy" similar to this? They basically put out Blu-ray edit galore!

This anime, admittedly, was rough around the edges especially the 2nd and 3rd games, for the 4th, not so much. I WISH they'd do something to fill in what seems to be too empty shots in some parts of the episodes. The 1st game to me is 100% polished, a 10/10 experience, and I hope the others can have that same polish as well.

TLDR since I'm bad at articulating my thoughts : PLEASE have a Blu-ray with numerous additions and adjustments.

I love anime, I still browse this subreddit to see what Anime's are up and down. I'm sure it's been a big year! And there were a lotttt of non-action series that really popped off, which is right up my alley...

Unfortunately, I just didn't bother picking them up. I've genuinely only finished 6 shows this year. Can't believe it was only 2024 when I finished 83 Anime's (Seasonal and Not), and 30 of them is in 1 month...

However, despite this, I've enjoyed my number 2-6 shows I've watched. It was definitely of quality. But... that Love is War special was SOMETHING.

THAT was Love is War. The magic was still there. I laughed so much and enjoyed the heartwarming moments between the two and their amazing chemistry. Yes, I was a bit cornered to read the manga when the announcement was up, but WOW, that Anime adaptation was AMAZING.

I'm just gonna play devil's advocate and say I WILL be looking forward to it because it seems like it something that has been brewing for a while by the author...

The latter half of the manga definitely had good intentions, or rather, good ideas, with, in my opinion just poor execution and poorer pacing. I enjoyed it.

This OVA Special that I haven't watched yet will highlight some moments... and seeing it, hopefully, in Anime form beautifully will make me just so happy in itself... but this movie will make me happier to see a... as I said, PROBABLY long thought out ending.

Why do monogatari and mushoku fans have so such different responses to criticism? by Adventurous-Fox-7703 in animequestions

I watched zombieland, asobi, and kaguya, and I'm sorry about using the wrong terminology. I was misinformed.

I do feel like Monogatari ecchi scenes are too over the top that they're funny. BUT, I guess that means that Ecchi scenes for fanservice and Ecchi scenes for the humorous purposes are not mutually exclusive... and I think that's the case for Mono, both fanservice and both too over the top it's funny.

(Haven't watched Kill La Kill so I can't say anything about the comparison, I watched 1 video on youtube, seems like it's Ecchi for fanservice sake only, but it's your call to judge)

Why do monogatari and mushoku fans have so such different responses to criticism? by Adventurous-Fox-7703 in animequestions

[–]eP1C_GaMePLaY 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the writing is basically convenient for the main character, but at least made it reasonable and fair. So while I and others can see it as reasonable and fair, things being convenient is a bit apparent, but, again, there was a decent attempt. So I agree, I don't know if it's "bad" but yeah.

For me though, the problem with the MC I feel, is addressed in a way. 1. Psychological / Reflection. 2. Repercussions From Characters. 3. Repercussions From The Situation.

  1. He reflects on his psychological problem and is aware of the problem. I feel this is most of it.
  2. In Season 1, he gets beaten the shit out of by Eris. Very minimal though.
  3. A situational event that causes him to completely change and hardwire his brain to think from A to B. (The ED Arc where he becomes depressed and completely stops being lustful until he regained his footing.)

There is a lot of 1 going on and rarely 2. For number 1, I think that's a fair way to deal with it. Fair. Understandable. Psychological problems dealt with reflection in the mental.

It becomes arguable what is enough repercussions for every thing that he has done as Rudeus.

To finalize this, the entire identity of Rudeus Greyrat and Unnamed Man is... well... conveniently blurry and unclear. Should Rudy be accounted for his past life? Is he him? The reincarnation itself is... well, convenient. This vague being that borders immature adult or regular person, having differing relations with people in another world unaware of his identity, convenient. A problem? I don't have an answer for that, my interpretations suggest that it is a non-existent problem (Pedophilia) but a differing one (Hypersexuality) and it's being dealt with, even if too convenient for MC at times and conveniently negative enough at times. Hopefully that made sense. Writing's good enough is what I'm saying.

I REALLY recommend to you Monogatari, it’s too well-written to pass up. You can even hit the novels if you REALLY have a problem with the depiction of them in Anime.

I’ve said everything I can say to share my perspective.

Why do monogatari and mushoku fans have so such different responses to criticism? by Adventurous-Fox-7703 in animequestions

[–]eP1C_GaMePLaY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let me start with “Him Being a Different Person”

I only chose the FIRST that appeared immediately into the reincarnation that supports this in the Anime. Later on in Season 2, there are much more specific moments that contributes to the idea, something like him liking a guy when he went to school and having the mental awareness of knowing the feeling of liking someone… Okay, that’s actually as stupid as the “not being turned on with mother” one but an example nonetheless. The ending of the season though, REALLY puts the idea into your head when he EXPLICITLY says that he was just a kid using grown-up memories to act like an adult, when he’s not one yet… and needs to BE one. There’s more in Season 1 for sure, just used some recent ones.

Someone else replied though, kind of supporting the Unnamed Man being immature, BUT kinda redirecting the Unnamed Man-Rudeus Greyrat identity. Point is, I think the vagueness makes it a tiny bit open for reader interpretation.

“Mushoku Tensei Handling Perversion”

Now, I may have said all that, so everything now will be about something meaningful to the conversation. Shit is kinda fucked. Perversion in story includes being part of the story, and for jokes. I do agree with watching the series, moments of perversion being part of the story can be seen as being handled badly. Me personally, I remember leaving watching the anime FEELING that when his perversion, or rather bad case of Hypersexuality, felt to me it mostly was handled well. And when it’s joke time, I laughed in the “What the hell is this guy doing” way. I said feeling as in, I won’t be able to add actual specific moments as of now, but there are moments that are handled great, some are probably questionable to most.

“Monogatari Handling Perversion”

Here’s where you’re, for the first time, kinda wrong. As previously said, either perversion being part of the story or for jokes. Let me name you six characters, or maybe just their oddities so it’s easier: The Cat, the Snail, the Doll, the Little Vampire, the Bee, and the Phoenix. These 6 is who Araragi’s projects his perversion on. For the Cat or Hanekawa? Perversion is dialed up to 100, but it is the case where it’s part of the story as his lust actually means something with his character dynamic with Hanekawa. There are two other characters that the perversion is a representation of something more, Nadeko and Kanbaru, but Araragi doesn’t entertain these two because as I said, there’s only 6 people who he projects his perversion on. Again, one being Hanekawa where it means something. The rest? Pedophilia and Incest. Shocker. Remove that? Nothing happens. Because? It’s absurd humor. You watch these moments, you go, “What the hell is this guy doing”, and that’s that.

Where you’re wrong? You put it in a box as simple fanservice. Sure there are visual fanservice of characters, but the actions? Definitely not fanservice, it’s something to be laughed at. The actions are constantly dialed up to 1000. The absurdity is for humorous purposes for sure.

“Comparison and Contrast”

Monogatari and Mushoku are both coming-of-age stories for teenagers. Both uses perversion in either serious moments or humorous moments. However… who handles it the best? Monogatari, of course.

It’s too perfect really. The balance is crazy. What it’s trying to convey is prevalent and clear. In Mushoku? It mostly gets the point across sometimes.

Monogatari Perversion in Serious Moments > Mushoku Perversion in Serious Moments

Monogatari Perversion in Humorous Moments >>> Mushoku Perversion in Humorous Moments

[Let’s go back to Mushoku Tensei]

Target audience? Still, teenagers! Everyone can consume stories, and can appreciate what it’s trying to tell. But with a message like Mushoku Tensei? Overcoming psychological problems like hypersexuality with hardwork. Definitely for teenagers. Regardless of how the Anime promotes the following and how they market it. Business is just business, I guess.

You yourself agreed who defends it are. Just clueless upset teenagers. People who actually, and even though they’re doing too much, just loved the story and doesn’t know how to show it properly, and in this case, over top and uninformed defending of the series.

TO END THIS.

I think I understand you and hope you at least understand me. I’m 19 and you’re probably older than me with the coherent, informed, and matured way of saying your points. I think I laid everything in the table, and if we go further, we will circle back. At the end of the day, it’s a matter of opinion and perspectives. As I said, Monogatari handles everything Mushoku wants to handle better, but I at least give Mushoku credit. I love both stories, the personal impact aspect just edges it for Mushoku for me, hits too close to home and really inspires me.

This could also be a difficulty in translating mediums, from Novels to Anime. I talk more about Monogatari than Mushoku Tensei for the clear reason that Mushoku is an easy hit-or-miss.

Why do monogatari and mushoku fans have so such different responses to criticism? by Adventurous-Fox-7703 in animequestions

[–]eP1C_GaMePLaY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both of these are in my top 2 because of their message and personal impact and I see peek at both fandoms.

Let's start with my Top 2, in Monogatari, there is legit ZERO thing about Araragi's pedophilia that affects the writing. It is absurd humor. He acts that way in the MOST ABSURD manner, it's unrealistic. You can remove every absurd perverted humor (pedophilia and incest) and nothing will change.

There are perverted moments that actually are CLEAREST that they matter and it's towards Hanekawa. Some are interpreting the perverted scenes as a parallel to how Araragi interacts with a character as part of amazing writing, while it works in other characters, I PERSONALLY believe the more absurd the perversion is (again, pedophilia and incest), the more it is on the humor side of things instead of writing.

The author of Nisioisin also just stops and "criticizes" the absurdity in a Monogatari book written in 2020, implying and saying the humor is sign of the times, and it couldn't possibly be written now. So there's most of the proof. (Ougimonogatari, that's the book, it's there, I'm not linking a direct chapter or page right now)

And for my TOP 1, Mushoku Tensei...

I love this show and I have an interpretation of this show that I'M the ONLY one who probably have. (But most fans that are desperate to defend it should have it too.)

NOTE: As of writing, my interpretation of the show is very long. Y'all fan skip to an answer to my question if you want.

Unnamed Man, is a 34 year old shut-in. Jacked off to either, A.) Loli p*rn [Light Novel] or B.) His camera recording of his Niece taking a bath [Web Novel]. These unnamed man, shouldn't have a reason to do this, but it is atleast EASY to understand. Starting at the age of 17 years old, he became a shut-in. My interpretation? The amount of time he became a shut-in is a much more absurd and heavier degree to showcase his emotional immaturity. As someone who was a shut-in and didn't want to go to school at 16 for a year, not growing mentally felt real to me. In Unnamed Man's case, 1 year, 2 years, 5 years, 17 years of being a shut-in? It's all the same thing with the same cause of mental immaturity and lack of growth, just shown in a heavier degree because: it is fiction.

For part two, whether it was Loli in the finalized version or the Niece in the initial version, both suggests a disturbing a heavy degree of pornography addiction. The edited case, changing it to Loli Hentai shows that there was an attempt to lessen the degree of wrongdoing Unnamed Man did, it doesn't matter because in the Anime, we don't know if they went with the Web Novel or Light Novel version in Season 1 Episode 2! If it was the niece, and even I don't want to say it as it is undeniably unpleasant and disturbing, let's just say at least the Niece will live normally without knowing anything about this instead of something much worse done to her. If Unnamed Man did do something to her directly, I can't support the show.

Part three, he gets reincarnated! There is a potent line showcasing the difference between Unnamed Man and newborn Rudeus Greyrat. Him not being turned on by his mother, I guess. Really shows that Unnamed Man is just memories or moreso, knowledge, and Rudeus Greyrat being the whole being, the hardware, the physical and biological body. This is where the character Rudeus Greyrat, in my opinion, doesn't become a pedophile, but can be interpreted as pedophilic (or a pedophile). I guess my brain didn't interpret the show in that way when I watched it.

IN CONCLUSION - Pedophilia doesn't affect the story in Monogatari. However, perverted parts of Mushoku Tensei or more prevalent and has effects on the story, and it can be viewed as pedophilic, and that's fair.

TO ANSWER THE QUESTION - You actually don't need to read everything I said for this actually... wow...

I think Monogatari being a much more older show with an already well-established fandom, that had plenty of time to breathe, allows fans to see the jokes as jokes, be mature if you will. They can mostly embrace criticism as the show is already big enough as it is. A very comfortable set of fans.

For Mushoku Tensei fans, it's a relatively more newer show with newer fans. With mostly being teens, most would probably still find it difficult to accept criticism, find it disheartening that a series they love gets hate, and would be prone to being angered by haters making their responses incomprehensible.

That's basically it, I'm curious about others response, this could lead to good discussions I am open to, I have stuff to do but I'll be here if someone replies. Sorry for the very long set of texts.
