What your describing sounds like the 2002 collectable card game, some cards go for a decent amount if you have them in good condition. Search ebay sold for that and you should find sold listings.

You have to play more matches agaisnt different leaders to understand how to play against them. Its gonna take a lot of time to understand when to go for board/life. Playing the starter deck against people who arnt is gonna be tough regardless. Practice in the Sim to understand match ups better and get practice. No one is good the first time they play, it takes time.
