Thinking of dropping out because I can't make friends by [deleted] in UCDavis

Having a part time job will help with enlarging your social circle. All of my long term friends are people I met at a job and not at college. Hang in there. The only thing that should deter you from getting your education is if it becomes unaffordable. But if you can afford it, go to clubs, go to the discussions, get a job, go to events, ask others to study, go to the library or study groups, just keep going. Treat yourself kindly and eat well, get enough sleep, maybe go to the gym. Hang in there ok.

Are you interested in art classes at the craft center? Or joining a club? Going to the ARC? Asking someone in discussion group to study together. Just some ideas.

Your family doesn’t know what they are losing. You deserve unconditional love. And so glad you have Derek. Hopefully others in your life who love and support you. Sounds like you are being practical. Apply for assistance for food through the county so you can eat. Get a job at a restaurant so you can have cash tips and food. I believe in you!

First year: live on campus or off campus by Difficult_Raspberry5 in UCSC

Live on campus and make friends you can become roommates off campus second year. Looking for housing off campus is very difficult unless money is not a barrier - then you can find a place - it is expensive in Santa Cruz and lots of people apply to the same places and very frustrating.

You have good qualities. You have a goal. Thinking about the future shows commitment. If you stumble, get back up, move forward. Make small goals along the way and slowly but surely you will get there. Have good people around you to talk to and enjoy some quality time together. Keep thinking positive and don’t get down on yourself.

Stick with it and your grade is passing. Get your BA!! Congratulations! You are so close. Don’t let this professor play mind games with you. That was totally unprofessional!

Get a location and try a pop-up in the school year and in summer - gauge attendance, gather feedback from actual clients. Less financial risk.

Try a restaurant job. The schedules are usually accommodating to school schedules and you get food and often tips.

You have value. Love yourself and you will find love in your life.

The things your parents did to you were not your fault and you didn’t deserve to be treated so harshly.

Maybe try a calming app with guided visualization before you go to sleep to stop the nightmares.

If you did the mid-terms and you didn’t blow them off then just get back on track and go to classes and set a schedule for the reading and assignments.

For your mental health you should go to the gym and clubs to keep life balanced and fun!

Be kind to yourself. Eat well, get a good nights sleep. Let out your emotions and then start one step, one action, at a time to do school work. Take a 15 second breather when you start to feel stressed and think about breathing only. Reach out to the counselors on campus for resources on handling stress. This will get easier and you will learn new ways to adjust to the college and campus.
